I have been following and recommending Colleen and Canine Academy both personally and professionally for 10+ years. I recently got a new puppy and thought she would be the perfect place to go since I have gone to her in the past with great results. I could not have been so wrong. We were completely ignored during class and received no help or instruction, at one put the instructor actually walked away from us while we were working on a command. When I contacted them to let them know that I was upset with the class and tell them my concerns I was given basically the brochure description of the class I was scheduled in and no real response or concern to my displeasure in their facility. I can no longer recommend this facility with a good conscience and have lucky found a place where me and my pet are welcome.

We first came to Canine Academy in January with our 11 month old German Shepard. He was reactive to other dogs, hard to control on a leash, and needing help with obedience. We went to check the facility out and were impressed with the staff, their positive renforcement training, and the cleanliness of the training center. Atlas, our GSD, needed a couple private lessons to get over his reactivity and since then, has taken group basic and advanced obedience training, passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC), CGC Advanced, and CGC Urban tests and is now enrolled in scent work training at Canine Academy. Their training classes cost less than Petsmart and are more comprehensive. They’ve done a great job training us and our Atlas. We couldn’t be happier!

Daycare, sheesh

I walked in with my dog mid-day and I was a little put off by the amount of dogs they seemed to have in a confined space. When I asked if it was normal I was immediately met with hostility by the female employee, ""YES, IT'S NORMAL

Colleen literally saved my puppy. She was an agressive biter who attacked whenever she had something she knew she was not supposed to have. With Colleen's help we learned how to deal with her and she now responds beautifully to the ""leave it"" command allowing us to remove harmful things from her without being bitten. She has come such a long way with Canine Academy in all aspects of her training. People marvel at her behavior and we owe it all to Canine Academy and Colleen. If you're looking for effective, gentle, reward/praise training that really works check out Canine Academy.

Great Classes!

I had an out of control lab/hound mix that I was embarrased to walk down the street. When we started class, he was barking and crazy. Colleen was patient with me and my dog, and I now proudly hold my head high as we walk down the street, he does such a great job. Thank you!

Wish I never signed up!

Unfortunately, I can't give a positive review for Canine Academy. Almost every class, the trainer would ask to demonstrate something on one of the dogs in class and she would proceed to handle the dog in a rough manner. It made me nervous to hand over my dog to this woman. I dreaded the classes each week. I went to Canine Academy because it is the closest training place for me. I honestly think location is what keeps this place in business because it is sure not the great trainer / training.

Not my cup of tea...

I found both the trainer and the classes unpleasant. My dog did graduate (in fact he won 1st place on the last day) however, I would not recommend this place and I would not return. The training style as well as the teaching style left me disappointed to say the least.

Great help with problem solving

My puppy and I have really enjoyed the classes we took--puppy class, basic obedience, and canine good citizen. Participants are always encouraged to bring up any problems that they have with their pets, and the solutions are right on!
