I purchased a coupon on Living Social for a 1 hr anti-aging facial here at 50% off. My firend and I went on Friday afternoon. The salon has good visability from the street, but a very limited parking facility. We walked in, and it was VERY loud due to construction and the number of stylists, but well appointed and clean. I was rushed into the facial room without any consultation or in-take form (questions like: Are you allergic to anything, what type of skin problems do you have, are you taking any medications), worried me. I was told to partially dis-robe while the lady was standing in the room with me? She did give me a wrap, but still. The facial consisted of: removing my makeup, application of a scrub (at some points, painfully applied), application of a mask (she put it on and walked out and left me for 20 minutes!), and application of a moisturizer with a facial, neck and chest massage. Her massage technique was pretty good, but again, became pretty rigorous at times. I asked her durinf the facial, what type of product she was using, she responded "Loreal: Professional", but when I was leaving, she did tell me that she mixes her own moisturizers. When it appeared that she was done with my facial, I asked her if she wasn't going to apply anything to my eye area? She agreed to put a little moisturizer on for me. No steaming, no extractions, really a mini-facial, at best. We also had pedicures, and those were the WORST we had ever had done. This is an Armenian, full-servie salon specializing in wedding parties, From what I could tell, the stylists were turning out nice do's.

I was treated to a spa mani-pedi by a friend. Julie, the owner/manager, did my nails and one of her assistants did the spa manicure. Seated in a massage chair during the process, I felt like royalty. Julie is friendly but not intrusive or chatty. The salon (inside a hair salon) is clean, bright and well-kept. Clearly, they clean and sanitize everything between customers and give you a little bag with your own brand new buffer and file to bring to future appointments...a very nice touch! My fingernails lasted 2 weeks and my toenails lasted over 3 weeks before needing any touch-up. I went back for a manicure, and a gentlemen (Julie's husband, I think) did my nails. He was fast, thorough and very sweet. The hand massage was incredible and worth the price alone! Not sure if it's the top coat or the UV nail dryer that makes the manicure last so long, but it was well over 2 weeks before my polish showed ANY wear. That's TWICE in a row, so I am hooked. Home manicures chip after 3 days. This place is comfortable, friendly without being over-bearing, neat and clean, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend (and I am a picky person)! =)
Good haircut, poor customer service! Obviously, these gentlemen's know how to cut hair no doubt about it; however, I am not sure if they provide the greatest customer service. Sitting in there for more than 75 minutes I watched people went ahead of me. if all of them had appointments before and if this shop does not accept walk-ins, then I would expect a sign saying so; or at least one of the barbers should have told me not to stay. After 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting and watching them ignoring me, I said goodbye and went to another barber shop -Jina's hair cut (1259 Glendale Ave) - and got a nice hair cut in 20 minutes. I think what bothered me today most was the fact that the barbers in Modern Barber shop ignored my presence in there. They simply could have told me not to wait or just come another day or something like that. Sorry no offense to anyone, but I wouldn't waste my time in modern barber shop next time!
Trikee Tack is staffed with very friendly and super knowledgeable people. I shop here for supplies for my tiny flock of chickens, and the price for feed is much better than other stores I've visited (the quality of the product is better as well). If you have any questions about what products might be best, there is always someone on sight who can answer you. And they always have the best interest of the animals in mind. For instance, they do not sell baby chicks until after Easter so that they know they won't be given as temporary, cutesy gifts, but will go to homes where people are ready and prepared to take care of them properly. They also will only sell chicks in sets of 3, as they are meant to be flock animals. I love the integrity of these policies, and I will happily continue to support this shop because of them.
Good groupon deal! I purchased a groupon for $15 for 1 gel manicure (valued at $30). It was my first time in the salon. It wasn't super fancy or anything, but the girl who did my n ails (Janette) was really nice and pretty careful and detailed. They had a large selection (20-30) colors to choose from for my gel manicure. Doing gel is generally more expensive, but worht it because it's not supposed to chip, so it should last at least 2 weeks. Plus, it looks super shiny! There's a parking lot down the street and some street parking. The location is in the cute Kenneth village. My review is only for the manicure and not for other salon services.
This place is alright if you want a manicure. But getting a pedicure here, is kinda iffy. My grandma and I went for pedicures and the same lady did both of our nails and she also USED THE SAME TOOLS ON ME, AS MY GRANDMA. (Who knows who else she used those tools on.) I was grossed out and I haven't been back since then. And when they do acrylics on there customers they just rush and finish your nails, and then one nail comes out longer then the other. Their mentality is to get as many people as possible in their chairs in one day, even if the job is half-done. All they are is cheap.
I had to stop by and say, in the past year or so I spent a fortune getting my haircuts, every few weeks styling, and coloring and leaving unhappy with the results until I found Hasmik. I have been going to her for 8 months and she does amazing job. They are very friendly there and I feel conformable and relaxed knowing she is going to make me look great in matter of no time. Her prices are more then great, and I recommend to anyone. Must say she is one of the best with years of experience and just as importantly I don't feel ripped off.
My eyebrows are so clean! I went here because my chiropractor recommended me to this place. Zina, the esthetician waxed my eyebrows and my lips for a discounted rate. She did an amazing job and uses a green-colored wax for sensitive skin. I was wary abotu waxing as I used to do it and it hurt a lot and would have bad reactions. I switched to threading, but decided to give waxing another try. Zina did a fabulous job and even tweezed my eyebrows some too, since some of my hairs were too little. I would definitely go back!
I would like to say that in the last 10 years i have been getting the same quality haircut from Modern Barbershop and i would never switch. Being one of the most popular barbershops in Glendale its a given that there is going to be some waiting so it is best to call ahead of time and schedule an appointment. All 4 barbers are prescise and do excellent work. You will never be upset with your haircut here and it is definatly worth the wait. From day 1 to now all the barbers at Modern Barbershop have been nothing but great!
This is my emergency last minute place because they can usually fit you in. The salon is long and narrow. The decor is just kind of depressing. Not really a pamper yourself kind of place. I've had gel nails done here while I'm sitting in the spa foot bath. One time my nail guy in order to rush me out had the electric blue light on my lap while I was sitting in my bath. I should have said something but I didn't. Guess what that electric blue light actually almost slid off my lap and into the water. OMG.
