I really love this store for a number of reasons. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. While much smaller than big box stores so far there hasn't been any hardware item that they have not had. They are local and live in the area, so they care! It is so close to my house. The customer service is exemplary and that is really hard to find these days.
Ace Hardware's jingle that they are the "helpful place always there to lend a hand" just isnt true here, took my shattered storm windows in on Friday for repair, told the gentleman that I was short on time and needed these fixed asap, he said that their guy might be able to do it that day and would have him call me with estimate, didn't call me with an estimate until the following Monday, told to go ahead. On Wednesday called again and was told wouldn't be ready till end of week. Went back and spoke to the guy who does the work and he did not seem to care at all, said he did repairs in order received, no apology for slow service. Did not tell me I would have to wait if I used them, even after I told them I was pressed for time. I had to take to Andy's glass to get it done next day, and did it for half the cost that Ace wanted to do it. "Helpful Place always there to lend a hand" - Not! They left me high and dry, I will not go back and recommend that you support businesses that really ARE helpful.
I'm new to the area and Salem Hardware is great! No matter what project your working on chances are Salem Hardware will have what you need. Have been in a couple of times when someone came in looking for a specific item such as a brand specific hinge for a fence that they didn't carry and the owner Steve didn't hesitate to help them find a local business who would have it.
Lose priority mail items (never even get to USPS) and refuse to even make an effort to double check their area for it. Horrible customer service at postal desk and the manager is just as bad. If the adage "it takes one to no one" holds any truth, these guys should be tool experts.
I honestly cannot fathom how this place stays open. I live in the neighborhood, and I truly wish to support a local business, but the owner seems unhinged. I've gone back a few times, but I can't anymore - I fear that if I ask a question he'll erupt in anger.
The owner of this store, Steve Duffey, is basically a true lunatic. I can deal with the fact that his selection is crappy and overpriced but it is hard to deal with the fact that he'll turn angry and disgusted if you ask a single question. He's a powder keg and should be avoided. Positive reviews are clearly written by the owner or his friends because if you use the store just once, you'll never want to return.
Great selection and prices. Always helpful and staff is friendly, EXCEPT for an associate named Gary. Very rude, condescending if you don't know something about tools, and acts like he doesn't want to be bothered. Always one bad apple in the bunch.
We do not have a customer by this name. If this person would call us we would fix any issues with our flooring. This person seems to want to damage our reputation that we have proudly built over the past 25+ years. If you are real please call us! As we have no idea who you are...
Our family always uses Big Bob's for our carpet needs. We have had such great service and pricing that we have referred many of our friends and family. I appreciate the professionalism of the installers and look forward to working with them again.
