So as everyone knows I turned 30 this weekend. A couple of weeks ago I booked a surprise visit for a friend to "A Relaxed You" for her birthday, and I thought I would do the same. For a birthday present to myself I booked a one hour deep tissue massage. The name of the establishment is "A Relaxed You" located at 11121 South Kedzie Avenue in Chicago. The young lady on the phone was very nice and explained to me there would be a $25 fee if I canceled, and to arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment. The appointment was scheduled for 9:00am, and I was excited to go.When I arrived for my appointment at 8:45 which is 15 minutes early the doors were locked.I returned to my car and waited awhile longer. At 8:50am the "OPEN" sign in the window finally came on, and I was ready for my relaxation to start.Instead the nice receptionist Danielle informed me that the young lady who booked my appointment forgot to write it in their book. When Danielle checked the computer she was able to see all of my information had been confirmed for the appointment, but not written down in the masseuse schedule. So even though I called and booked a $75 massage, came 15 minutes early, I would be leaving without service. Unless I was able to comeback at 12:45pm, but if not the next time I come they would only charge me $50. All of that is nice, but you all have to do better. I barely squeezed time out of my busy schedule for that hour, and to wake up on the one day I could sleep in for nothing! While I listen to the receptionist chat about how tired she was from laying up with her boyfriend at Depaul University the night before. When she could of been finding other ways to rectify the situation. That really made me very LIVID!If you are a no show they charge you a $25 fee. If they screw up you get a pat on the back with a discounted massage that they will note in your account. Forgive me if I am not excited with the customer service. If you forgot to to write down my appointment, you probably will forget to write down the discount. As you read this you may say, "What's the big deal?". Well as a working, single mother of two relaxation time is sparse. So when finally do make time for it you actually want to relax. I have been to this place in the past, but one visit like this can make you rethink the place. I work hard for my money, and my time is precious I will not be going back.If I had to rate this place it would get 2 out of 10 stars for today's experience. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was for the nice decor.

I thought I've had a real pre event sports-stretch/deep tissue massage before. Then I met Anthony from Energize Sports Massage earlier this year, and realized I've never really had a professional sports-stretch-Runners massage. I looked up Energize Sports Massage and saw one review on YELP which was made in 2006 and the neg. comment was a bitter woman was told this is a sports medicine for male athlete which myself & many pro athlete seeks. In Chicago & across the country, many sports massage therapist are only for women. I own a small business and YELP reviews are so fake, Just Some Heads Up. you have to pay them to receive positive reviews. Just food for thought if you have written positive reviews from other establishments and never see them . Always look at the date of the review and read reviews that was not publishment on line. Thank god i read others who have visited his establishment and gave Anthony positive five-four stars.I'm currently in Crossfit/Spinning training and woke up one morning with my hamstring/quads singing to me. Their song was one of exhaustion and a plea for some TLC. I made an appointment with Mr. Anthony (online scheduling is extremely easy) and was greeted by the extremely pleasant Mr.Reeves in his calming home studio office in Andersonville. After completeing the client information form, He took the time to sit down with me and genuinely listened to what I wanted. He made it clear that he was here for me, His professional& knowlwdge of the body muscle structure was- truly relaxing & appreciated! Very Professional, This guy knows his work being a former athlete of the ache, pains & muscle injuries. The actual massage was a slice of heaven. he has strong hands, good deep tissue for the I T bands & hip flexors. Sometimes painful, but painful in a "please-don't-stop-this-is-amazing" kind of a way. He is the only therapist that actually does the glutes muscle, deep tissue & elbow pressure, also the lower back, that is so important to any runner. He took the time to explain to me some of the intricacies of my body and made me feel very comfortable. I left feeling rejuvenated, rested, and and ready to take on the world. Days later and I'm still feeling the effects of Anthony work. My training/sports massage blend, I feel the positive affect, legs, lower back hamstrings feel great,I will be a regular customer in the future. Thanks!!Mario I
I used to be a long time customer. Nearly ten years to be exact, and each and every experience with this business was pleasant until recently. I went in to add copper low lights with Angelica and the end result was fire truck red and blonde highlights!!!! I'm not a color expert, but last time I checked there was a difference between the two shades. I also pointed to the color swatch I liked and provided a picture of their previous work. When I saw the end product, I didn't know how to react. While I stared at the hot mess, Angelica convinced me that after several washes the color would fade to what I wanted. Little did I know, I'd wash my hair and the red would bleed into the blonde making me look like Carrot Top's sister. This was beyond a hot mess! I called and let them know what the situation was and Araceli, the shop manager assured me she would fix it. I went in and again the same stylist took care of me. I asked her to get rid of the red, and so she began. Turns out she just toned it down. Again, not what I asked for. Notice any patterns? Anyways, third is sorta the charm because I was fed up and just wanted it all gone. She covered it with a half effort job because now I have random patches of red, and burgundy over my natural color. As if this wasn't enough, all through out this return visit, Angelica was passive- aggressive. Smiling at me but snickering on the side, and very hard on my head, pulling and tugging at my hair as she "fixed" it. After this experience, it is needless to say that I will not be returning. They have lost several customers since many of my relatives and friends were also clients. Its a true disappointment that there is no professionalism or real responsibility with their work or to their customers. Consumers, beware of the potential wrecks you're paying for at this place.
This is my third visit. I had a hamstring-Sciatica/strain issues this past spring, a runner of two years, I always suffered with hamstring /I T Band tightness. What stood out to me on my first visit is how professional knowledgeable he is in most sports, and how technical he was on explaining the benefits of runners massage & the issues on hamstring, I T Bands & quads muscle issues. Anthony tailored the sports-stretch massage to what I wanted, compared to most Chicago health club/spa places that give you a traditional basic-a-style-massage.My session began with Anthony warmly greeting me and then having me fill out a very well designed form with questions for customizing my massage. I've never seen questions like that for a massage and was pretty impressed. He then read my responses and we had a quick "pre-massage talk" to clarify what I wanted. The massage itself was excellent, Leg stretching, best I have had, pressure was excellent of the deep tissue/ trigger point, I left refreshed. I got a combination of Sports and deep tissue massage to open up some areas that were tight from my cross fit exercises. I was delighted that Anthony was familiar with cross fit and I felt that he knew exactly what I needed. He's also a fun person to talk with - Anthony has studied several sports massage techniques, done a good amount of traveling and he's a cyclist, positive attitude/ yoga mentor too. He let me take the lead with conversation, which I also appreciated since it allowed me to ask questions and have some quiet time too. He is a avid baseball & Black Hawk fan, The massage room at his condo, tranquill, relaxing, candlelight, music is so relaxing, my body went numb, I fell asleep after the session for a 1/2 hr. was not rushed. Excellent rates in a grreat area in the Andersonville neighborhood..
Their where very friendly and helpful in helping me with choosing my nail for my prom. I can't understand why some people bad mouth this store because I see a lot of the worker. Working hard and trying their best to get everyone nail done. I been to this place for a long time now but I never wrote a review because I though that they already have good reviews. Then I came back to get my nail done. I hear that they where losing costumer because of bad review on Google. I wanted to help them as much as I can so I got on Google as fast as I could and wrote them one. I can tell you that over the year I have been here. Their where a lot of costumer that are very rude to the worker here. I'm not talking about all of the costumer but some of them. I just wanted to tell everyone that they only tell you a little part of the story and not the whole thing so please give it a try before you judge the store. They work so hard that it kind of sad that people are saying this to them. I also know that sometime they skip their lunch just to do nail for us. I just hope that this review can change some people mind about the store.
Ridiculously nice people. After going once, Sam and Lynn (his right-hand gal) will remember your name, the service you received last time, and how you were feeling. That's awesome (and rare) up here in Albany Park. Lynn gives stellar manis and pedis (as do the other girls who come and go- but ask for Lynn if you have a choice!) and Sam's the hair guy. You'll be offered water, tea, or- on occasion- whatever cookies and treats someone has dropped off for them. (Always accept. I've never regretted trying something new and delicious.) So why only four outta five stars? Because while the prices are unreal affordable and the service is lovely, it's not always the fanciest haircut for a girl. (For a guy- absolutely. My husband always looks awesome after coming home from here.) Cuts for a woman are *very* basic and just fine. But again, you can't beat the prices and people. Their massage chairs are also top notch. Sometimes I stay a little longer and hog one of their chairs. Bonus- Sam and Lynn are so polite that they've never told me to perhaps give the chair to a waiting client. I like that.
To me personally I grade a salon on three things plus some: professionalism, service, and of course atmosphere. 1) The fact that esther does a great job of cutting, texturing my hair, and is quick as most of my old barbers from madison, it is great. 2) The decor of art, cleanliness, and space is something most other salons, at least in the Hyde Park Bronzeville area lacks is space. 3) the professionalism of the receptionsit upon arrival, and when I asked how long the wait is, he was honest about timing and saw an opening and predicted when esther would be done with client and the time she would finish my hair was exactly at 22 minutes. they had time, she was quick but very good and wash was included plus she was interesting to talk to. they never turn customers away without calling them and giving the best time to come back to fit me in. plus, they had foaming cream available at the price of 17 I think. not bad for salon prices. 2nd haircut was better cuz esther knew what I needed. lol
I love Carmelo at Restoration at the Clark location in Chicago, IL. I have been going in a consistant basis to Restoration and Carmelo is the only stylist that I would trust with any suggestion and my hair. Carmelo will never make you look dumb or horrible. I am very visible to the public, my appearnace is foremost important. Years of service I have received at a regular basis at Restoration and my many dates, photo shoots, work events and even galas I get all sorts of compliments because of Carmelo. I have swept the crowd with the amazing ways he works wonders with my hair. Every single time my pictures are at display the amount of great comments are proof of Carmelo's miracle and artistic hands. Carmelo makes look like a movie star! Like I told Carmelo, I never trust my hair to just anyone. Since I moved, I even travel to see him...and now even my daugther is getting her hair done. I love Carmelo for always being honest and bringing my dull hair to life. Thank you Carmelo! :)
My experience here at the Nail Shop and Spa has been nothing short of amazing! The ladies are phenomenal. Over the years in regards to last minute appointments I have had the opportunity to be serviced by other nail technicians in the salon; Martinka and as well as Charlotte. All of the employees are very polite, kind and do an amazing job. The manager/owner Chawanya who is my usual nail tech does a great job on my nails. I've been to many nail salons before, but this one is by far is the best and I highly recommend it! All year round I make it a must, that I receive a manicure, pedicure, and an eyebrow waxing. I have to say in the Chicagoland area there are very few African-American owned and far less Latino’s owned nail salons. With that being said it is truly great to find a place that is going to go the extra mile to take care of their customers and also give recommendation in regards to foot care, nail care, and overall beauty enhancements.
