We drive 100 miles once or twice a week from Indiana to attend this church! Have been members since 2008 and my husband is an outreach ministry leader there - Redeem Team Nursing & Rehab Ministry. This is a daughter church of the world-famous Brooklyn Tabernacle, and Chrissy Cymbala Toledo leads our Chicago Tabernacle Choir which sings in our Sunday services and also for special services at Moody Bible Institute and other areas in the region. We have a first rate nursery and Happy Baby Room, CT Playhouse for children during our Sunday & Tuesday services. The youth has special groups on Sundays as well as small groups (EVOLVE) on Wednesday night and TRANSFORMED a weekly youth bash with band, activities, etc. every Friday night at 7 PM. Young adults (Married & single) have small groups and activities - ADVANCE on facebook. We also have Mom groups, Vitality work out club with Christian-style Zumba activities, regular leadership Bible studies, mens' meetings, and more as the church grows! We have two services on Sundays and come early for the second service (9&11AM) if you want to get a seat in the main auditorium as often it overflows! We also have many outreaches in the community to the needy. The music is INCREDIBLE, the preaching is life-changing -- unlike most churches that are new but are made up of Christians who have switched churches, this church is a mix of seasoned Christians and brand new converts who give their testimonies at our baptismal services usually every few months. I was also healed of a life-threatening incurable illness during the invitation at one of the services -- simply during the invitation they asked those who needed to be healed to stand and an elder annointed their head with oil and those around them prayed for them and I threw away my meds as I no longer needed it! We have had cancer totally disappear as well and verfied by the doctor's -- if you ever want special prayer, contact the church and they will set it up to have you prayed for especially at our Tuesday night prayer meetings. We have been Christians for many years, our last church we belonged to for over 25 years -- but when we discovered the Chicago Tabernacle we havejoined and they have changed our life totally for God, saved our marriage when it went through difficulties, and I thank God for Pastor Al & Chrissy (Cymbala) Toledo and the staff at Chicago Tabernacle!
My fiancé and I moved to Chicago in December and started looking for a catholic church that we would like to get married in. Every Sunday we went to a different church around the downtown area until we finally found what we were looking for...a beautiful church, with a community feel, and amazing priests/sermons. St.Joseph's is definitely a hidden gem!! The following sums up St. Joseph's church:Beautiful! - The outside of this church is very deceiving because of it's modern look. Once you walk through the front doors you will be in awe. Inside a huge beautiful cathedral. It's absolutely gorgeous. Great Priest --- Fr. Larry is amazing! He is very personable, remembers everyone by name, and most importantly delivers great sermons. We take something away from every mass we attend. Amazing Music --- The music is awesome. It's not traditional, boring church music. It's very modern, with a great rhythm and beat. Community Feel --- Fr. Larry is a big reason this church has a sense of community. Once he found out we were new to the area and church, he immediately introduce us to other parishioners and gave us a warm welcome. There are coffee and donuts after the 11 am mass in the gathering area, which allows you to get to know other parishioners. Historic ---- St. Joseph's happens to be one of the oldest churches in Chicago. In the 70's, the front of the church collapsed and was reconstructed with a more modern look, which makes it very deceiving when you drive past it. Once inside, you'll see a beautiful cathedral with such great detail. Free Parking & Easily Accessible ---- Do I have to say more? This is not something that's easy to find in Chicago. St.Joseph's has it own school and parking lot across the street that is free for parishioners on Sundays. Flexible Mass Times --- St.Joseph's also has a sister church called Immaculate Conception a couple blocks away. It is much smaller and is attached to its school. Between the two churches you have a lot of different mass times to pick and choose from. We absolutely love it here, and you will too! We can't wait to get married at St.Joseph's next Spring. If your new to Chicago and looking for a great Catholic church, trust me....this is the one! :)
Every time I visit friends in Chicago, I visit this church because I used to attend Good Shepherd on Belmont when Alexander Sizcko was pastor. I do not know why they moved. Last time I visited, I was surprised and disappointed because Pastor Siczko was no longer there. There doesn't seem to be an official pastor at this time. I have never seen a worship team be in such chaos. They even give each other dirty looks. My opinion is there are too many problems with the staff. Everyone fights all the time, they are disrespectful to each other. There are no youth to speak of. Emotionless and disappointing. Not what I was expecting. I will be looking for Pastor David Siczko when I visit Chicago again.
i was member of parrish from 1951 till 1965 ...my family was members from 1925 or so...Phil Brophy and family I'm Phil Ruff his grandson.i loved school, did homework in convent, alter boy in new church etc...they were great years...
St. Joseph is a beautiful Catholic church, and the diverse community has a welcoming spirit. If you are looking of a "spiritual home" this is the place!
Good experience - has a nice mix of traditional and modern music incorporated into the service. Very inviting congregation - made you feel welcome.
