She is a hair goddess and will never lead you astray if you are looking for a new look, have curly uncooperative hair, color change, or to keep your hair the same!! Carmelo - hands down!

I went there and got my haircut with Carmelo. He's seriously amazing. If you need someone to understand hair and color you will find he has the perfect combination. Great salon and atmosphere. I highly recommend it!!!

Great professional staff and comfortable atmosphere

Hey, I've walked by ZEA Salon many times, but never tried it until recently when I followed my stylist, Carmello, from the VP Salon on Broadway. Firstly, the place is very nice on the inside. Beautiful interior design with nice reception desk. I always get a warm welcome on arrival. Salon has a nice waiting area in the event you need to wait a few minutes with lots of reading material to keep you occupied. They'll offer you something to drink when you arrive - even a glass of wine if its the right time of day! The place is a buzz with activity, yet you still feel like you're getting personalized service. Relaxer chairs let you stretch your legs out while getting a shampoo. Carmello is my stylist. He is a sweet man who always does a great job. I've never been disappointed. At check out, they offer to book your next appointment. I was even called at home by one of the owners to make sure everything went well following my first visit to the salon. Something you don't see much any more. Even though it's a few blocks further from my place than VP Salon, I really appreciate the great professional service from Carmello and the rest of the staff, and enjoy the comfortable atmosphere. Anyway, I encourage everyone to give it a try. And if you need a new stylist, ask for Carmello. He'll do a great job.

Great Salon!

After moving to Chicago a year ago I went to multiple salons before stumbling across Zea, and I am so glad I finally did. The service here is fantastic, and Dara is one of the best stylist/colorist/conversationalists in the city! Its hard to find a salon where getting your hair done isn't just another errand to finish, but a couple hours of pampering. Staff is fun, yet knowledgeable and professional. Store carries a great selection of Bumble and Bumble products as well (a nice change from the Aveda lines EVERY other salon carries). Only con is that they charge to shampoo you (is this because no one knows to tip your shampoo girl/boy?) Either way, Zea has made a very loyal patron out of this girl!

Five words: Stay away from this place! I had a nightmare-like experience this past weekend... I went to Jennifer for a cut and color and wanted a nice red (I have gotten my hair red numerous times and it looks awesome). She took the color off and I looked like Elmo. Then she put 'light' brown on it and left me to process way too long. When she took that off my hair was jet black! I was ready to cry!! So she puts something else on to take the color out and then comes running over to me when I was under the dryer and tells me she put the wrong stuff on. Now she has to strip it with bleach. My scalp was burning like crazy... Finally she is done stripping it and then she puts brown on it to level the color out. Now my hair is DARK, DARK, DARK! Not at all what I wanted. The kicker is when I was ready to leave she tried charging me for the color that she royaly screwed up. I told her where to stick it and said I will pay for the cut, but not the color. The nerve! I should have walked out of there with a free mani/pedi coupon for my troubles!! Stay far away... FAR, FAR AWAY!!... and if you see Jennifer run the other way!!!!!

Amazing experience!

For my first foray into the Chicago salon experience, I went to Zea after a friend recommended it. I went in for a cut and highlight with Ricky, and came out feeling phenomenal! He was extremely professional yet entertaining, and truly is a master with highlights. They are very natural-looking, and have lasted me (without roots) for six weeks.

hair heaven

i am a hair snob. i used to fly back to philly just to get my hair done after i moved away. but my haircut at zea was by far the best haircut/color ive ever had in my life. i literally get stopped in the streets by people asking where i got my hair done. i had David, and i will never have anyone else ever touch my hair. he's fabulous, super nice, and did a perfect job. if sitting in a chair having someone make you beautiful while drinking wine and reading vogue appeals to you, then you've found the right place.

Best Haircut EVER

i recently visited Chicago and stopped in at Zea since it is located around the corner from where I was staying. they took me immediately and I was put in the most competant hands. everyone there was so incredibly friendly, professional, and the service was phoenomenal. I have the best haircut/color that i have ever had and if i lived here, i would be a regular customer with no doubt. Go! You won't regret this-

Look No Further

I have been in Chicago all my life and have, in my 30+ years of living with frizzy, unmanagable hair, been looking for that perfect stylist that can do it all. I have had my hair cut, colored, chemically straightened and now, added EXTENSIONS and it has all been done by Dara. Dara can do it all! She will create the look YOU want, not what she wants you to do. I had followed Dara to Zea from her previous salon and I would be lost without her. Zea is by far my favorite salon. The day I got my extensions, all the stylist kept visiting our station. They were watching and talking and it was like being with my friends. They made the day fun and relaxing. I recommend to anyone going to Zea and HIGHLY recommend Dara. She is the best.

Above and Beyond experience

I really love Zea salon. The ambience is very trendy and contemporary but casual. You walk in and don't feel like an outcast like most pretencious salon near or by downtown. Everyone is a wonderful asset to the salon. My fav is the underdeniable talented and very chic, Dara. Dara takes the trip to the salon to a whole new level of style. She is honestly just awesome and so are her fellow stylists. Everyone from the concierge to the manicurists are just down right Fabulous and fashion forward with their work.

Top Notch quality, THE Best in Chicago!!!

I've never had a better cut in my life! Zea is a high-end quality, beautiful full service salon inside and out. The staff seemed to immediately recognize me from my last visit six weeks ago, when I first stopped in (as a walk-in!) to change my drab hairstyle. To anyone who thinks Zea may be out of the way at 3800 north, I'm telling you it is WORTH every extra step it might take to get there. Dara is an amazing stylist who could easily work at the pinnacle of the fashion industry or in film, gifted and sooooo affordable for the quality you get. I will never go anywhere else as long as I'm in Chicago. Period.

Faithful customer!

This neighborhood salon is classy and stylists are extremely talented. You get great service and great hair without out posh salon attitude. I've been going to them for 4+ years. They are extremely accomodating...for instance, I had appt set up for a few weeks with my usual guy, he called in sick, and called me personally from home to recommend another stylist if I still wanted to keep my appt. I loved my cut from the other guy, and have seen him since. They are fun, talented people that work there, and I enjoy my experience every time I go. I highly recommend them! Jesus is fabulous, as is Paul and Sarah for color. Also have spa and nail services.

Low-key professional service!

I'm a Bo Ric's kind of guy, but I thought I'd treat myself to good cut and (maybe) a new look. Same-day appointment, $15 off coupon honoured without shame or problem, a nice, attentive, professional cut, and a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Gotta check this place out!

I have lived in Chicago for over 11 years and have been to MANY different salons for haircuts/color/etc. By far, Zea Salon is the best salon that I have been to in the city. I always know that I'm going to love the results from the service I receive there. I constantly receive compliments from friends, family and strangers (!) on the quality of my cut/color. Zea's staff is always incredibly professional, and the salon has a great vibe to it. I highly recommend checking it out!

I could always count on Zea

I have been going to other salons for hair cuts, and have never been more satisfied than I am now with Zea, ther are professional and courteous. Getting my hair done there is alaways a great experience from the minute I get in, first I get offer a glass of wine, water, or soft drink to the minute I get done with my hair. The hair wash with Jennifer is a relaxing experience she really takes the time with your hair and she also does a great job with eyebrows using strings (FENOMENAL JOB) Jerry, great hair stylist!!! he knows his job so well, and cares about the customers needs. I WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE. I have never had any problems with the waiting time, they are always on time.

Had fun and looking fabulous!

I recently received color, hi-lights and a cut with Paul at Zea. I originally picked the salon because of its proximity to my apartment, but I couldn't be happier with my experience. I've been dying my hair for more than 8 years and I've gotten more compliments on my color after going to Zea than I've gotten my whole life. All my friends go to there and never have a bad experience. I would suggest carving out time to get the full Zea experience (i.e. a glass of wine and relax). They make even a routine color/cut feel like a day at the spa. Love the place!

My pleasure to be a regular client...

I absolutely love Zea Salon. I have been a faithful client for the last 2 1/2 years and have never been met with anything but the most professional, catering, and pleasure-filled experiences there.
The staff is amazing - it is clear that all the employees like their jobs, as this is reflected in the fantastic work they perform. I am consistently met with open arms when I go in for my monthly styling, and my time there is a treat that I look forward to always.
Without fail, when I walk out of Zea, my head is held high as I feel beautiful, thanks to the excellent service and styling I receive.
Highly recommended from a loyal client - try it and you will love it too.

Worst Salon Didn't care had damaged my hair

Paid over $200, to touch up roots to blend w/pre-existing hi-lights and get a cut. Not only were roots not touched up, but rest of hair had been bleached blond so contrast with roots was even more drastic. Cut was worst. Asked for gradual layers ended up with 3 weird layers; short in front, long on the sides and short in back. Texture of hairs become wire-like, lost its bounce (am having hair checked for permanent damage). Worst is salons reaction. After going to salon, I went overseas. When returned, went back to complain. Manager said they have a 7 day policy and because its been three weeks they can't do anything and said I could reschedule w/someone else in salon pay another $200 to fix hair they destroyed! Refused to refund. I offered proof of travels, refused, saying 7 day policy stands regardless of whether I was in town.
