My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. It was a good time overall. However, I would not go back. The atmosphere was nice and romantic and it was a fun experience making our own food. On the other hand, the food is crazy expensive. We got a cheese appetizer and it was 19 dollars!! All it was was a pot of cheese that we dipped bread in! Also, you have to be in to making your food! It takes a long time so be expected to dip one piece of chicken into the pot and then wait 4 or 5 minutes for that one piece of chicken to be cooked until you can eat it! Then you have to repeat that for piece number two. My glass of wine was AT least 10 dollars and i think i got one of the cheaper ones on the menu. Also, we asked our waiter for more vegetables and he NEVER came back throughout the whole entire meal. He disappeared for at least 20-30 minutes. In short- don't recommend it. If you want to go there once for the experience I would suggest that you just go in for desert , as that is definitely the best part and the only thing that would be worth the money.
...oh yea and i forgot to mention that my boyfriend called ahead and asked if they do anything special for birthdays- they said yes. But then when we got there and he mentioned it they never did anything!! Boo.

A few weeks ago my friends and I went out for a birthday celebration. Due to Chicagos recent weather changes, everyone was a 'lil' behind schedule. The manager was extremely patient and politely accommodated us. I believe her name was Kristin. Once we were seated, it was all worth the wait. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS AND PACKED WITH FLAVOR. I enjoyed every single bite. Because of the economy, I cant frequent this restaurant every week but if I could, I would!

Going to a chain on our trip to Chicago was a bad choice, but friends of ours had recommended The Melting P*t in the past and it was one of the few places open late enough to get a good meal at 10pm on a Monday. Unfortunately, our experience was terrible; we didn't end up leaving the restaurant until 1am, and the food didn't quite live up to the $85 bill.
We waited nearly 20 minutes between courses (4 of them), and our waiter didn't even stop by our table for nearly 25 minutes after we were seated. That was to EXPLAIN the process - he didn't return for another 15 to take our order (needless to say, he rarely stopped during courses to ask how we liked them).
The restaurant is a fondue place, meaning you get a cheese fondue appetizer (prepared in front of you, you get bread, etc. to dip), a prepared salad, the main course (boiled oil with meat/seafood to dip), and a dessert (chocolate-based with marshmallows, strawberries, etc. to dip).
Being as most of it was prepared in front of you or brought to you uncooked, I had a difficult time understanding the steep price (without drinks, as this meal was, that's about as much as we paid at many of Chicago's much nicer restaurants). If they had done a lot to the meats before bringing them out, maybe it'd be a little more justified, but it seems as if the kitchen is putting raw items in bowls/on plates (after quick and bland marinating), the waiters are preparing the dips, and you are cooking everything for them.
The cooking itself gets a little tiresome after awhile. At first it was cute, but it quickly became a hassle to have to cook all of your own food. At times it was even confusing, trying to remember which bland batter or dip was recommended for which item. As a final note: Save room in your wallet for dessert. Getting it separately from the combo is around $16 for a 'small' p*t and $32 for a 'regular.' And you can't go to a fondue place and not get chocolate...

Went on a Sunday Evening. Staff was extremely friendly. Huge wine selection. They melted the cheese fondue right in front of us - very cool. Entree was extremely filling - cooked in both Coq au Vin (Vegetable Bouillon with Wine) & Bourgigonne (Oil). Chocolate fondue was to die for!!! Watched the Bears game & played chess in the bar after dinner. They told us about Ladies Night on Wednesdays - FREE cheese & Chocolate fondue from 5-7pm. Can't wait to go back. They even have live music Wednesdays through Saturdays in the lounge & Complimentary Wine tastings Friday & Saturdays in their wine room. I'm thinking about making thisRestaurant a regular dining spot!!
