My husband and I only recently moved to Chicago a few weeks ago. We have always heard that Chicago was a great town to try wonderful food from all over. So far, we have only ventured around our neighborhood as we would like to get to know it first. We have been to several restaurants in and around Roscoe Village. We have spent quite a bit at some and have been less than impressed with the food, but not Terragusto! It was the kind of wonderful that makes you want to spin around in your sock feet on the kitchen floor and say ummmmmmm!!! Very good food. Polite and efficient service (David) If you are looking for a quick bite. Do not go there! But, if you are looking for long and wonderful meal with friends, you will not be disappointed. We will be back and we will bring guests. By the way it is BYO (always a plus)

I and a group of 3 more friends went to the Terragusta looking for good food.It was 9 pm we had a concert to go and were ready to order some light food. The four of us were ready to order when one of my friend's date arrived saying that she just wanted to hang out a little bit before going to the concert and she had eaten already. The waitress, really polite btw, told us that if we were 5 people we would have to buy a ?family menu? starting at $37?We explained that the 5th person was not eating and asked her to talk with the manager, as it was 9 pm, the restaurant was empty and closes at 10 pm. She came back saying that that was the ?policy?. We asked to talk with the manager and he gave the same answer. My friend's date got so embarrassed that wanted to live and it was really an awful situation as we didn't want to spoil our friend's night! As we were about to live, a tall guy came to the table and said: ?What is happening here?"". We told him what had happened and he said:? I?M THE OWNER OF THE PLACE, AND THIS IS THE POLICY AND IF YOU DON'T AGREE PLEASE GET OUT!."" At that point I was not in the mood to eat in the place at all...If the guy is the OWNER, he's not supposed to treat customers like this, he could have explained why the crazy policy or saying why he couldn't open an exception (the place was about to close AND it was empty).I asked him why he was being rude and he said we were being rude with the servers...The rudeness of the guy spoiled our night, my friend's date and our concert. I can't tell about the food, cause I was not able to try, but service is definitely not their strength. I suggest never to try the restaurant as the guy that is cooking for your can be as rude and disrespectful as he was with us.

A group of 8 of us went here on a Wednesday night. Given that we were 8 people, we had no choice but to go with the Chef's choice menu for either $38 or 46.50.
We chose the more expensive b/c it was a special occasion and were all intrigued by what they considered their ""best.""
We were not disappointed. Several of us are foodies, having been to some of the best restaurants in Chicago, and Terragusto far exceeded our expecations.
The dinner included bottled water and a 12 course meal! Yes, 12 courses! It was insane, but each dish was fabulous and just enough. We were all completely stuffed when we left but already planning our next trip back.

I was recommended this restaurant by a good friend. He stated if you want to go somewhere intimate, fresh, tastful, and a different experience, Terragusto is the place to try. I took my husband for an afternoon out, The location blends with the neighborhood, the menu selection is unique on a daily bases, and I like the fact that you can bring your own choice of beverage (wine is an excellent choice - they supply the glasses) and I was impressed at the fact that some of the ingrediants are purchased from the local farmers.
The service was excellent from start to finish. The flavor of the food excited my taste buds. A definite keeper in the listing of top restaurants to revisit.

There are so many reasons to love this place. I wish it wasn't always booked...note you'll want to make reservations about two weeks in advance if you want a Friday or Saturday night. The prix fix menu is a great value and you get plenty of food...BYOB is also a nice bonus. I would eat here all the time if I could...great place to take guests to show off great Chicago atmosphere and food.

My husband and I walk by this place all the time since it's a block from out house. I was always intrigued -- it's off the beaten path but always full of people. So, we tried and tried for reservations -- always last minute and never able to get in. We finally planned ahead and success! Stepping in, the space was personal and inviting -- authentic Italian cafe style. But I must say it's really about the food. They are a BYOB restaurant and serve your wine in small cylindrical glasses which were informal but suitable. Unfortunately, I can't say much about everything on the menu, because I was only able to try a few things during my first visit, but I will be back to eat my way through after the meal we had there. We learned that the chef trained in the Bologna region of Italy. The homemade polenta with mushrooms, cannelloni beans, and housemade sausage was a symphony in my mouth -- each bite offering new discoveries -- rosemary, a cheesey crust, parsley, cornmeal, etc.. The mezzaluna filled with rainbow trout in a white wine sauce was so surprisingly full of flavor that I never wanted each bite to end. The bolognese -- behind words. Rated best bolognese in the city of Chicago and I can see why. It was truly one of those meals you never wanted to end. Savoring each bite was not enough. Lastly, we had a whole fish similar to sea bass that was paired with caramelized brussel sprounts and potatoes. Very rustic but extremely flavorful and moist. I have been to a lot of exciting restaurants in the city, but this one has won me over. I can't wait to sample what the chef has to offer in the changing seasons to come. I better start making my reservations!

I had such high hopes for this restaurant after reading so much about them. They have a great philosophy with local, organic food - this matched with fresh house made pasta and it should be a home run, but unfortunately we were disappointed. We didn't have any problems with the service and the quality of the food was fine, but not to the level we had expected. The baked polenta was one of the best things on the menu and I would recommend that. The pasta was by no means special - we've had plenty of other excellent house made pastas at other restaurants (that we hoped Terragusto would live up to!) Those that said this was the best restaurant in the city really haven't been to the best restaurants in this city.
We ordered the prix fix menu and were excited to try dishes from the entire menu. Unfortunately all of the portion sizes were way too big and they brought too many things at once. They brought our pasta out and then literally two minutes later brought our entree. We would much rather have enjoyed each plate individually.
This restaurant has so much potential, they're just not meeting it yet. Also, if they're going to charge a $1 BYOB fee, it would be nice if they provided stems.

Eat out a lot and the more the hype builds for the ""hot new secret"" places the more I seem let down. Few live up to the buzz - this one does for sure. Unpretentious in a way too casual atmosphere, but the food is out of this world. No fancy test tubes or foam, just solid authentic Italian food.
My night started off with a 10 minute wait for my reserved table, but no big deal for prime time Saturday night. Hostess was a cute red head and very cool. My party of 4 brought our own Merlot & Cab which went perfectly with the classic Italian food. Don't miss the polenta and fresh pastas. Service was solid without too much chit chat.
My only real gripe is that the atmosphere is too plain and theplace was absolutely packed and so got pretty loud. Go.

I do NOT recommend Terra Gusto. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who recommended Tango Sur (amazing place). So, I was very excited to try this one out. I took my parents, and boy was I embarrassed. We had a reservation for 8:30pm. When we arrived we had to wait for 1 hour for a table. They didn?t even offer us a stool to sit on for 30 min. Forget about a complementary appetizer or a dessert. We had brought 2 great bottles of Italian wine and by the time the food came we were pretty drunk. The food was expensive, small portions and sucked. We order an appetizer and were served hard boiled eggs and shaved carrots. I spent two years in Italy and not once was I served such c**p at a restaurant.

A recent TV reviewer stated that this was the ""best home-made pasta this side of Italy."" She was absolutely correct. The pasta is indeed marvelous! The pork was incredible! The atmosphere is good and the wait staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgable. Go back? Absolutely! Good job, Terragusto!
