The food is excellent and the portions are HUGE! I went with 4 others and we each ordered our own meal. We could have done with 2 to feed us all. Great price for the amount of food. The room is crowded, but for good reason, and plenty of people sat at the bar and ate. The wine selection is extensive too and the waiter was very knowledgable. Really treat you the 'old fashioned' way, folding your napkin when you get up, wipping up the table of bread crumbs etc. This is a must for hungry families!

This is my first time rating a restaurant online, but my experience compels me to send this message out into the universe. It was our seven year anniversary and we were spending a romantic weekend in the Windy City. Our concierge recommended Rosebud because of its' past reputation and location with respect to our hotel. We were seated immediately for our reservation but the servers accent was very heavy and he was hard to understand. Every course left something to be desired and the most attractive feature was the wide assortment of baked goods in the bread basket. The $8 tomato and onion salad consisted of 4 slices of tomato and four slices of red onion. The escargot was completely flavorless the snails were of very poor quality. We had the signature 16 oz Bone in Chicago Cut Delmonico Ribeye $45 ala carte and we were informed that their method of cooking steaks was char-broiling but when it arrived every inch of the surface was completely black! We also ordered the whitefish $20 ala carte (which incidentally was the only moderately sustainable fish available, in the middle of Halibut season!!!) and it was a very small and over cooked. $10 for a baked potato the size of two baseballs (not loaded) and $8 for an extremely large portion of wild rice which had a nice flavor but contained raisins, to which I am allergic and were not mentioned on the meny description. Who would have thought to ask if there were raisins in a wild rice dish? The key lime pie was store bought and had an off flavor. All in all, we spent more quality time with our non-english speaking busser than our server. Our server would occasionally walk by the table and knock on it in passing. I will never return to this restaurant because of the low quality of service and outrageous prices for sub-standard food.

While eating here - the host staff was rude and abrubt when seating us. The resturant was very busy and loud. When my prime rib arrived (Saturday night special), when it arrived it was undercooked and extremely fatty (over 50% of the cut). The staff took it back stating I would get a new piece - upon return the prime rib was cooked and now done overly well. After this I was given a different cut of meat. The staff made little accomodations to the situation initially until the manager became involved. I do'nt feel as though I will return to this resturant - it seems as though once they became busy they have lost touch with their good food and service.

Like many places in Chicago - this is a great spot for a steak. But I will never go back there. The staff is friendly enough but the ownership is terrible. Having booked our reservation far ahead of time - we requested a very specific area of the restaurant. Not only wasn't this honored, but when we were seated, it as at the worst table in the whole place. We are regular customers and live right around the corner from the place. But when we asked why we weren't seated where we had requested - we were told outright that those tables are reserved for ""regulars."" One of the owners even had the nerve to tell us hs consulted some list the place keeps - and of course we weren't on it and therefore not of the correct cast is be seated where we wanted.
This place acts like they are the only game in town - when in reality there's so many other places with BETTER food and that treat all their patrons like welcomed guests.
Skip this one, folks. The overpriced food isn't worth the bad after taste.

When we visit Chicago there is no better place to eat than Rosebud's Steak House. Although its name says Steakhouse there is much more entree's to choose from and they have the best Crab Cakes and Chicken as well. Not only is the food fabulous but the staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is wonderful. When I am in town for a visit from Michigan my first place for dinner is this wonderful place.

I'm a local and a fan of the Rosebud chain. But our recent experience as the Rosebud Steakhouse was enough to change all that. After having made a reservaiton, we were seated 20 minutes late while tables sat idly by. An apologetic if not competent waiter tried to make up for our original disallusionment, but this was short lived as the food arrived too slowly. To cap off the evening the half steak and veggies we couldn't finish and asked to be wrapped were lost. We found this out after weaiting another twenty minutes. The apology was weak and the promise of a replacement ""meal"" resulted in an ounce of steak and a sprout of brocolli aftger about another 15 minutes. We have decied there are better ways to spend our time.

I had heard so much about this steakhouse being a chicago institution that I was very disappointed when our waiter was not up to par. He was hard to understand, as his English wasn't very good, he was also pushy and rather rough around the edges. We felt as if he wanted to get us out asap. Certainly not the proper training I expected for a restaurant of this caliber. The food was fine, but not worthy of recommending.

I have been to almost every steak house in this city, rosebud's on walton is clearly the best. Old school but yet not too much of a boys club. Always bustling but never too packed with tourists or too busy to remember thier regulars. Never a bad meal. Fantastic for client dinners or impressing the family when thier in town.

While on an apartment hunting trip prior to moving to Chicago from the east coast, our hotel's concierge reccomended Rosebud over some of the other more famous steakhouses-- and I'm very glad he did.
All three of us in my party had wonderful filets, and the sides of garlic spinach, mashed potatoes w/ caramelized onions and corn were phenomenal.
I've eaten steak all over thhe US, heck, all over the world, and the steak at Rosebud was damn near close to the best I've ever had.
The ambiance of the restaurant as well is much more intimate than other chain or name brand steakhouses where you feel as though you're dining in a gymnasium.
My only negative comment would be that it gets a bit loud in there on a busy night- not that the other places don't.

No bright lights or signs lead you to this wonderful restaurant but if you stumble upon it, you are in for a great meal. My wife & I had dinner here and the entire experience was top notch. We were seated promptly (even though the restaurant was packed) & the wait staff was knowledgeable and courteous. All of our selections/recommendations were delicious & perfectly prepared. The dinner was expensive but worth every penny.

This review is hard to write since I've been to the Rosebud twice. The first time I thought it was great. The service was outstanding and the food was great. The second time was awful. Since the experience was so good the first time, I thought I would bring my girlfriend there for Valentine's day. The place was packed and although I had a reservation, I was not seated for almost a half hour. The service was lousy. The waitress ignored our table. My soup was served with my salad. The meal itself was okay but overall, the place was bad. I guess you're only as good as your last meal and this one was bad. I will not give them another chance.
