Peer Foods is on the cutting edge of mass customization. It manufactures and distributes a variety of meat products, including bacon, beef, ham, other pork, poultry and sausage to the food service industry. Employee-owned Peer Foods uses traditional natural hickory and hardwood cooking methods to prepare its smoked and roasted meats. Peer also has a culinary center that develops restaurant menus. Along with its 95,000 square foot facility in Chicago, Peer also has a plant in Columbus, Ind., with 130,000 square feet of operation space. Peer has been in continuous operation since 1922. Its beginnings date back to 1867, when Christian Buehler Sr. entered the meatpacking industry with his own pork-packing and general butchering operation in Peoria, Ill.
