My husband and I went here on a Friday night. We didn't realize that this place only had 6 tables. When we went inside at 7:00 there was one table by the door. It was one of those tables that shouldn't have even been there because it was freezing outside and you would have been cold the whole time you were there. We went to the host and asked what they had availble. They said they had that table availble, but that we we would have to be done in an hour and twenty minutes. Seriously? I am going to pay and you are going to put a time limit on it. I asked when they would have any thing else open and they said 10:00, so I took my business elsewhere. The kicker is that I wrote a negative review on a different site and the owner wrote back and personally attacked me by saying ""I'm not going to argu with you, you and I both know what kind of people you and your husband are, your best friend will always be the angry and sad person in the mirror every morning, I hope you and your silent husband are happy at Waffle House"". I am sorry, but that is no way to win customers. This place is not open to feedback and the owner definitely needs a customer service 1010 class.

This resturant is my favorite ""find"" in the city, I stumbled on the resturant when my car battery died while I was in the grocery store. I have never had a bad meal and the service is always top notch! The Lasagna is a personal favorite of mine. The chef is always willing to make any dish exactly to your liking. In my experience this resturant is the best value in the city - the portions are large and the prices are unbeatable. I highly recommend this resturant!

I have ordered from this place many times hoping it gets better... it hasn't. Calamari- heavily breaded and soggy. Gnocchi- very dense, not at all like true gnocchi are supposed to be. It was in a heavy cream sauce. Disgusting. Bruschetta was good. Wouldn't recommend to others. There are many other Italian restaurants to choose from that are actually authentic and good.

having been a long standing customer and general advocate of la gondola, I write this review with a heavy heart... while I understand and expect some variation in consistency at a given restaurant, recently I've developed the distinct impression that somehow the business end of things is slowly starting to usurp the very quality experience I had once praised la gondola for.
bottom line: I reluctantly downgrade my rating to average, a place one year ago I would have awarded highest marks (for the category)
let us not forget about that which is most important: the food & customer satisfaction

There really isn't any words to decribe the ""awesomeness"" of the food at La Gondola. It really speaks for itself. The aroma of the dishes just makes your mouth water. I enjoy all the hospitality when dinning in. i think it really says something about a place when during your dinner or after your meal the owner Andy comes out from the back and visits with you. What a great guy, he might talk a lot but it adds to the flavor of the place. The pizza here is probably some of the best in the area that i have found. Not too many toppings but more than you pay for, and cooked perfectly. If you ever get the chance to dine-in, please try the seafood ciappino. OMG! Just the presentation alone leaves you speechless. I reccomend La Gondola to everybody. At least once, but i know from experience you can't go just once.
Well, La Gondola has once again delivered a fantastic meal to my house while we entertained several guests from out of town, not only did the food come in just over an hour, we were even surprized they would deliver tonight, 7 inches of snow and 40 MPH winds, they said sorry in advance and delivery might be 1.5 to 2 hours, it was delivered hot in 70 minutes, our guests were also impressed with delivery time and commented on how this is some of the best Italian they ever had (and they're from N.Y.) had the margherita (mar?) pizza for starters, and several entrees including the house specialty, Rigatoni Boscaiola (Yum!) Eggplant Parm. (1 of our guests had) and Loved, and Tilapia Livornase, white fish in the house Tomato Sauce with Caper, Olives and a side of Pasta, never had Fish with Tomato Sauce but it was great, and of course my wife had the Stuffed Gnocchi with creamed Pesto, she can't go a week without :) Service has always been top notch, Phone Personel to Delivery Drivers always polite and professional, and the service is even better in the dining room, although they only have 6 tables and it's hard getting one on weekends, but they do accept reservations, kepp in mind that delivery takes a little bit longer then most other restaurants, but the quality of food you receive takes time to prepare, so don't order if your in a hurry that's what Papa John's is for.
Having ordered from La Gondola in the past, we know that they are slow to deliver. READ: more than an hour every time for the last 6+ orders. With our order tonight however, we were disappointed to see that the $16 Salmon dish was way too dry to eat. When I called the manager (Brandon) to ask for a refund, they declined and said the food was fine when it left the restaurant. Well, then it must have been Chef Andy with the Knife in the Kitchen that ruined my meal! What a dumb thing to say... For the prices that they are charging, an edible meal is the least one could ask for.

Do NOT let looks deceive you: This is the best traditional Italian food in Chicago. You would never expect a restaurant in a strip-mall to be this good. The friendly atmosphere and ambiance are pleasantly surprising, and the food is even better. If you are looking for a Pizza delivery, there is no better thin-crust Pizza in town. Order it in, too!
If you don't see your favorite dish on the menu, then just ask! The menu is a ""guideline"", so tell them your favorite combination of pasta and sauce. The eggplant parmesan is out of this world! So is every Veal and Chicken dish (the Marsala is a consistent, not-too-sweet delicacy), and don't forget to look at their specials. (I adore the Cioppino.) This place only uses the freshest ingredients. There are no shortcuts taken here.
Go here before more people discover this place! (You won't be sorry.) It is rumored that R.R. of the Food Network has frequented this establishment, and it will be featured on her show in the near future (if it has not already aired). Do you need a better recommendation than Rachael??? With the limited dining space, it is sometimes difficult to get a table on Fridays and Saturdays. The dining room is too small, so if you cannot get a table...take something to go, because it is well worth the trip no matter how busy they are. Take-out some pasta or protein, and this food could pass for a home-cooked Italian masterpiece. No kidding!
Their wine list is improving since the new owner has taken over. The same Chef and servers have continued to deliver great Italian food at a very reasonable price.
Can you tell? I LOVE this place!!! They just need a bigger dining room. I almost hesitated to write this review, because I fear the day people discover this place and I won't be able to get a table. I have been hesitating for the past several months, but here it is. This is Italian comfort food at its best!
