I usually go to Fornello Trattoria a couple times of year. Food is good, but a little on the expensive side for what you get.

I live right down the street from this restaurant, so needless to say I dine here pretty often. My boyfriend and I went to dinner a few weeks ago. This place is special for us, because this is where we had our first date. We started with our usual bottle of wine, but I was disappointed that they were out of my usual pasta dish. After consulting with the waiter, I attempted to order the special, and asked for it ""a little spicy, like the pasta I usually order."" It came out so spicy that even my boyfriend couldn't eat it. I felt terrible because I had asked for it spicy, but it was beyond ridiculous. I told the waiter and he just kind of stared at me. Luckily the dishes are large, so we shared my boyfriend's meal. I was kind of irritated at the level of service at this point, but then the waiter brought us a massive piece of tiramisu. I don't think he was a bad waiter, I believe a language barrier caused both the spicy problem as well as a lack of proper response.
Pizza is so-so, pastas are amazing, indoor dining room is dark, quiet and romantic, great wine list, but parking is bad over here!

Fornello has quickly become the go-to restaurant for my husband and I. The menu features all of the standard Italian fare, but also dishes that you will not find anyplace else (for example, the Pasta Dello Chef - bowtie pasta, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes in a unique balsamic sauce - truly outstanding). Servers are friendly and knowledgable - this is the kind of place that they remember you and what you ordered last time! We took friends from out of town to Fornello on a Friday night... after dinner they asked to go back on Saturday night too! That says it all!

I took my boyfriend to Fornello last night for his birthday, and we had such a good time. Neither of us had ever been there before, although we live right around the corner, and we loved it. We had a couple of bottles of wine (Crow Canyon merlot and Rock Castle pinot noir), the pasta romantica, the rigatoni verdura, and mussels with white sauce for an appetizer. Everything was delicious. And, after finding out it was my boyfriend's birthday, our waitress brought out a huge slice of tiramisu for dessert, on the house. She was a great waitress too -- attentive without being overbearing, very fun and lively, and incredibly welcoming.
After eating, we went to sit at the bar in front of the fireplace -- cozy and romantic. The bartender, who was also the owner's son, gave us each a free drink just because it was our first time dining there. Then, to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, he poured us each a glass of limencello.
Seriously, this place has the best service in Wrigleyville, not to mention great food that comes in awesomely huge portions. We'll definitely be going back soon.

All around great Italian - especially for Uptown - but, you can't beat the gorgonzola/blue cheese gnocchi in alfredo sauce! You'll likely enjoy this dish even if you despise gorgonzola cheese or think this dish sounds weird. It's not on the normal menu - I had it as a special about 6 months ago. I called yesterday but it wasn't being offered as a special. Without pressing the issue further, the order taker put me on hold, asked the chef about the dish, and he agreed to make it. Compliments to the chef...wonderful!!!

My first time at Fornello was last night for a girls' night out dinner. Our waiter was very attentive and had a good sense of humor. The entire waitstaff, even including the bus boy, were wonderful and friendly. The atmosphere was cosy -we all thought it would be a perfect date restaurant. The food? PHENOMINAL!!! My favorite: fried calamari (very lightly battered - the best in the city), cappellacci di zucca (I COULD EAT THIS EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!! pasta filled with butternut squash, pine nuts, in tomato butter parmasean sage sauce - devine!), and of course lemoncello. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone & everyone. We can't wait to go back!

There must be something in the very air crystals here that creates an especially relaxed and comfortable environment for me, although the food is wonderful too. I usually begin with the Portobello mushroom appetizer, delicious although not an appetizer of bigger portion. But the sauce they use with this is so tasty. Its good with bread and great with pizza. So save your sauce if you order pizza. For an entree I like the tuna mixed with pasta. Although its not on the new menu, you'll have to ask the waiter for it. And the cappuccino is scrumpdillyicious! The wait staff is friendly and attentive and I think everyone would find the golden Tuscan look here quite pleasing. The other reviewer complained about take-out but I've never done take-out so I cannot comment. But my food has always arrived hot and tasty regarding the delivery service. Fornello here I come...
