It became quickly, VERY OBVIOUS why this place was dead on the most beautiful night of spring. We chose the brownstone to meet our friends for some appetizers and dinner while we watched the hawks playoff game tonight. When we arrived at 7pm, the person who sat us seemed like he had taken qualudes, and stumbled us to our seats. We mentioned to him that we were there to watch the game and he was nice enough to find us a table that would be close to where the game would be on, however when our 32 week pregnant friend showed up about 15 minutes later he hassled her about how long she was planning to stay and if she would be eating dinner. Strange.
Our waitress was great.. VERY ACCOMODATING AND ATTENTIVE.
The volume of the TVS was incredible loud even for those of us who were there to watch the game. At 9pm we were approached by a very rude employee who demanded that we leave if we were not staying for some televised fight. We told him that we were just finishing dinner and that we would be leaving shortly. He rudely suggested that shortly should be right now even though two of us at the table were still eating. After a few minutes he came back and demanded that our time was up and that if we were not there for the event that we should leave, despite the fact that we had spent close to $200 on our tab. we understood why we needed to wrap up our dinner, but the way it was handled was course and rude and unnecessary. We will never return to this establishment and will tell everyone to avoid this place as well. DEFINITELY A THUMBS DOWN. Rude staff, mediocre food, unnecessarily LOUD volume.

Brownstone used to be my go to restaurant when I was looking for good food, but I will never return.
I ordered a turkey burger and it was cold in the middle so I sent it back to have it cooked more. The owner came out and asked what was wrong and I told him. He proceeded to tell me that I was wrong and that he looked at the sandwich and I must have touched the tomato and not the burger. Sounds crazy, but that was what he said. He then told me I would have to wait until all of the orders went out to get my burger made. What I left out is that he stood and argued with me for 10 minutes in front of other customers and didnt seem to care. He did take my burger off of the bill, but never returned to the table to apologize. Talk about terrible service. I will never go back to the restaurant just for the fact that I wouldnt want to put money in his pocket, since he feels that the customer is obviously not right.

this place used to be great. the food was always freshly prepared and the menu had a great selection for large groups, including some vegetarian options, like the former black bean burger. for whatever reason, the food quality has definitely been compromised within the past 6 months and the menu [and owners?] have changed -- b/c now this place is just another 'tavern'. it's a bummer too because it had a good vibe and good food, and good service. now, well, it's just brown. boring.

Wow. Brownstone is a true gem in Chicago. It took over Ben's and turned it into a bar food mecca... You have to try the Merkts burger... believe me, you won't regret it. Chimichuri fries or seasoned, you won't go wrong... and definitely try the sinful cookie skillet. Their pretzel appetizers are awesome too, but will leave you too full for your main entree... My one no would be the goat cheese. I've had better. Summer days and nights are great sitting on the patio, but inside you'll get some great flatscreens to watch sports. Everyone I've taken there has raved afterwards. Good for friends or family!
