The parking may be a problem, unless you want to pay the valet $12 for it for no more than 3 hours. If you have a big dog, I would not recommend to bring it here, because there is very little room on the patio. The claimed dish for dogs is not given at all, just a bowl of water, unless you want to order something of the menu for you pet. The Tuesday special is just for people who sit at the bar, so if you want it then do not bring a dog.

I came here during restaurant week with an open mind, and a positive attitude.
I left feeling bitter and cynical.
There were a few positives, thus the two stars, as opposed to one. The atmosphere is nice, thought a bit more dull than I was expecting. I was very excited to see that they served Lindemans Framboise beer. I had had it once before in NYC, for $14 for a bottle. It was expensive, but it was delicious and the bottle filled my glass twice, so I thought it was worth it. When I saw it one the menu here for $10, I ordered it immediately. But this time, no bottle! Just one glass! I had the baked brie for an appetizer. It was fine, but my friend's beer-cheese beignets were amazing! The service was fine, nothing to complain about.
Now the negative: For my main course, I ordered ""The Famous Shrimp Bag."" I like to think when a restaurant modifies any item with the words ""the famous"" it means that they do a really good job with it. Apparently, I'm wrong. They could've called it ""The Famous Salt Bag"" to make it far more appropriate. (I'm sure you can come up with other nouns to fill in there.) The pastry bag was filled with a mix of rice, herbs, shrimp, and mushrooms with no discernible flavor, other than salt, a flavor that was echoed by the lobster sauce that surrounded the bag. I appreciated my sweet beer all the more, as it was perfect for washing the taste of the food out of my mouth.
Needless to say, I won't be going back to pay an absurd amount of money for food that might give me a stroke.

The meal was outstanding in every regard right down to the authentic French hard crust bread. The wine list was excellent in both quality of wines offered and value. The atmosphere was extremely nice and romantic, The only negative is the service staff. The bartender was not customer conscious, i.e. it took a while to get his attention and the waitress was very inattentive and slow. But overall we would highly recommend Brasserie Jo and deffinitely will be back.

I have been to Brasserie JO on social accounts many times and loved the food and the service! I decided to host a corporate event there recently and had great feed back! From booking the room, customizing a menu to the execution of the actual night, everything was right on! My colleagues were given choices of the lamb, skate and steak au poivre as entree choices. The lamb was brought out a prefect med-rare and the skate was wonderful and fresh. The Sommelier paired the perfect wine choices with our food-free of charge. The server was there when we needed him and was able to be quiet while clearing places during our power point presentation. We will be back again!

I have been here twice and I really did not find this food to be very authentic French at all, even though staff courteous and helpful. I have spoiled by living in France-Italy and this menu has been Americanized. The cuisine choices are not bad, however for the price they should be better. The atmosphere is bistro-like and waitstaff decent.

When I first arrived in Chicago, I asked some fellow French expats which French restaurant they would recommend for simple fares. One of the first that was mentioned was Jean Joho's 2nd restaurant (he's the chef at Everest), Brasserie Jo, which fares gastronomie from the Alsace region. Well let me tell you, I was disappointed the first 3 times I went to eat there and almost gave up. It finally took the 4th attempt for me to finally like the food. Each previous attempt was simply subpar, and I tried many items on the menu. The 4th time, it was a special pharmaceutical dinner and the food was simply delicious, so good in fact that I cannot give a rating less than 4 stars, even though I've had more bad experiences there than good ones. In all fairness, I'd have to say that the wine selection was good, the atmosphere was good as well. And the food that day (can't remember quite what I had) was some of the best French I had in the city to that point.

Average everything..service was good. Roast Chicken was nice but fries had black eyes from potatoes and tasted of old fat. Chicken mousse was a pate and tasted cheap, like store bought.
Still looking for a really authentic Chicago Brasserie AKA Les Halles or Orsay in NYC.

I ate over Thanksgiving 2006. Overally, I never got the impression that anyone working there was happy to have me as a customer. Service was very weak, could have been my waitress. She rarely came by, I had to continuously flag down others. Certainly she didn't know anything about wine. I asked her what type of grape the Rose was, and she said chardonnay. Hmmmm. I ordered the skate wing - it tasted like mush. It the worst fish I ever had at a restaurant. To boot, they skimped on both wine poors, not the kind of place to enjoy a nice, full glass of vino. The only positive note is that my fiancee's steak was good. There are plenty of places that are much better. I will never go back. Finally, and this is more a matter of personal taste than anything else, the music was akin to techno the whole night - not something I would have imagined.

Went with 4 women on a Sunday night. We had heard about the baquette-in-a-bag, but they were out of them and we got basket of bread slices. Little disappointing. Great waiter, wine was very nice, menu was OK, food was very good tasting, atmosphere is fun, and desert was scrumptious. I guess when we don't get to Chicago very often, we just want the whole package, and the sans baquette put a dent in it all.
