All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
HATS OFF TO KEVIN (sales) and the rest of the "crew" at ROGERS AUTO GROUP!!! WHEN MY ENGINE LOCKED UP ON ME LAST WEEK, I WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!! WITH 2 JOBS AND NO CAR, I WAS HEADED FOR BIG TROUBLE. i was searching for a car dealer that could handle my worse than horrible credit, and could accept the fact that i could not afford to put ANY MONEY DOWN. i found rogers auto group and called to explain my situation. KEVIN GOT MY APPLICATION AND SAID HE WOULD SEE WHAT HE COULD DO. I CALLED SEVERAL TIMES A DAY EVERY DAY, AND im relatively certain that i was a huge pain (unfortunately, patience is NOT a virtue that i possess), Still, each time i called, the staff there was poite and professional. the day kevin called to say i could come pick out my car, i was thrilled....till i realized i had no way to get to the dealership. NOT A PROBLEM!!! ROGERS AUTO GROUP TO THE RESCUE! my sales-person, KEVIN picked me up personally...at my front door!! upon arrival at the dealership, i was amazed. the showroom was beautiful, and the selection of cars was impressive and so diverse! I was greeted by courteous staff, and given a tour of the dealership and the service department. Within minutes, i was informed that not only had my loan been approved, but that i could drive home the exact car i had asked for!!! rogers auto group worked a MIRACLE FOR ME!!! with no money down, i was able to get a brand new car with a 10 year hundred thousand mile bumper to bumper and drive train warrantee....my payments are manageable, and they even got me a terrific low price for full coverage auto insurance!! and the car came with roadside assistance...what more could i ask for? not a thing! KEVIN, MANY THANKS TO YOU AND THE REST OF YOUR TEAM FOR SAVING ME!! I LOVE MY CAR, AND I WILL BE SENDING EVERYONE I KNOW who is in the market for a vehicle to rogers auto group!! you guys are the best!! the people here work miracles!!! with horrible credit, and no money down, they were able to get me financed and put me in a brand new vehicle...the one of my choosing (most dealers try to sell you the car THEY wanna sell you, not the car you pick out)...with verifiable income, they can do it!! they ALSO SAVED ME THOUSAND$$$....BY SECURING EVERY REBATE THEY could find that i was qualified for!!!! One of which was even "THE AUTO SHOW" rebate....if there is a rebate to save you money, the people at auto rogers group will find it!! oh, and my sales person KEVIN, even called me 3 days later to see how i liked the car and to personally wish me a happy birthday!!! great customer service, with a personal touch!!!

Stokes Auto Service in Bridgeport is the greatest ever!! My 1995 Bonnieville broke down on me the other day at a stop light. Since I was in Bridgeport returning home from my friend’s, I had no idea where to have it towed to. Thankfully, my friend called a few friends for a referral and I had my car towed to Stokes. He immediately checked it out, and not only found the problem of why it died on me, but another ongoing problem of which over the last few years I had taken to numerous mechanics who couldn’t figure it out. He noticed the alternator in my car was not the correct one and the mechanic that installed it forced it in and cracked my Intake Manifold. I was shocked he figured this out, especially so quickly and I hadn’t even mentioned any other issues. He knew my car like the back of his hand! My car was ready 2 days later and now is running like new! He was wonderful! He was spot-on in diagnosing my car within a couple of hours. He thoroughly explained everything to me. Their prices are fair and reasonable and I know he did quality work. I was very comfortable with him. He could have taken advantage of me since my car was towed there and I was “stuck”. But he didn’t. I know I would have paid much more for the same work elsewhere. Money is tight for me and he did all that work within my budget that we discussed. Stokes Auto Service is professional, honest and I got the heartfelt feeling that he really cared about my safety (not the money) and wasn’t going to let me leave with a car that may have jeopardized my safety. And he didn’t know me from Adam! I am so very happy that I have found a mechanic that I can trust! I will not go anywhere else, because being a woman; I have been ripped off by mechanics in the past. It will be a bit of a drive for me to use him, but totally worth it! He has a new happy customer for life! I cannot rave enough about Stokes Auto Service!!!! Tina U Evergreen Park
Over the past year, I took my car to Davila (2001 Aurora), which was recommended by a friend, three times on my own and another 3x to correct the repairs that should have been fixed the first time. Davila is kind of costly, they honor their warranties with no argument, however this is my complaint. I had my front brakes and rotors repaired but I had to return for brake replacements a month later. Go figure! Now that I moved to Atlanta, my brakes are acting up again, I'm still under warranty, but I'm not driving back to Chicago for replacements. On August 25,2007 I also had my valve cover gaskets and oil pressure switch replaced. I had to return maybe a week later because my car was still leaking oil, although I was previously informed that I may have to return if I noticed the car was still leaking oil. $1325.00 ($733-labor) for that job. October 30, 2006, $900 ($387-labor)for rear brakes, rotors, caliper, power steering prssure hose, serpentine belt, diagnostic test ($65), in which I just assume was free, (that was my bad). However, I returned 2 days later because my car still was still idling very high, which was part of that $900. It was repaired for free maybe 2 days later. The mechanics are friendly, detailed in explaining the problem, however, out of the three times I went to have my car repaired, I had to return for the same repair to be corrected 3 additional times. Also, if you are looking for a bargain, not! Prices remind you of car dealer prices. The minor things that happened....I got a parking ticket because my car was left in a no parking during certain hours zone, but Davila paid it and they lost my car keys before, luckily I had a spare with me at the time, but they did find them later. Regretably, although I like these guys character, I can not recommend them for car repair service, unless it's a last minute emergency.
I couldn't find Mid City Subaru on here, but I know the Nissan is related, so I'll just put my review here. I just leased a 2011 WRX from Mid City Subaru and overall, I had a pleasant experience. I leased my old Subaru from Mid City about 3 years ago as well, and had an OK experience then. I came in last weekend just to see if I qualified for a lease and to see what WRXes were available. There was only one, which was blue, and had more stuff on it than I was looking for. The salesman I dealt with, was really nice and had a no-pressure approach. He let me test drive the car even though I wasn't interested in this particular car, so I could at least get a feel for the WRX. After the test drive, I stated the numbers I was looking for and my salesman brought the GM, Jordan, to the negotiation table. Jordan's numbers were way too high initially. He initially assumed I wanted the WRX I just test drove and when I told him I wanted a different one, he looked around the state for one, found one to my liking, and settled with the numbers I was asking for. It was probably the easiest pre-negotiation I'd ever partaken in. Jordan told me the car would be in and ready on Monday so I followed up on Monday night and much to my surprise, Jordan kept his word and the final agreement still had the numbers we discussed earlier. My salesman transferred my plates and city sticker over to my new car and was extremely helpful. Even though I didn't really need it, he went over all the features of the car and went over the important parts of the manual. The only reason they don't get five stars is that someone misplaced the extra keys for the new car and it took almost half an hour to find them and it was already late and I was tired and ready to go home. I'd definitely do business with Mid City Subaru again, if another Subaru is in my future.

Where to begin? I have been working toward getting myself a car. My parents offered to help me out, but I wanted to do it independently. I start my senior year at the end of August and couldn’t wait to get it. a few weeks ago I started looking and found a gem (so I thought). I bought a car from the internet, and was super excited. It was a Nissan Sentra. The day after I got it, it wouldn’t start. I tried everything I know, but nothing helped. I took it to Western ave Nissan, where my father goes. The service department delivered the bad news. The car had all sorts of issues from, mechanical to electrical. I was devastated. My father happened to run into the salesman that he got his car from. He told him the situation and he said he would be right back. Todd came back and asked if I would like a new Sentra. I looked at my dad and said I don’t think I can afford it. Todd asked if we had a few minutes and said let’s take a walk. He showed us a base model last year car with an excellent rebate. He ran my credit and there wasn’t much there but my dad offered to co sign for me. They took my car that was in service and helped us out. They gave me most of what I paid for it. Going from a teenager to a young man this car is my first real responsibility. Im so glad that Western Nissan was able to help me with the purchase, I will learn a great deal from this experience. Thank You.
I've taken my vehicles to Norman International for the past 15 years or so, from Honda Civic to Chevy Blazer to my current GMC Jimmy and I have always found them to do a quick, accurate assessment with an eye to safety and personal needs at the time. I.E; maintenance Vs. long term investment in an aging vehicle. I have always found their advice to be apt. I'm writing now, because they have just done an exceptional job on restoring the fuel system of an aging Jimmy to store bought luster. Although the job became a series of interconnected problems that could not at first be determined, Norman did his best to stay within the original specs of the projected cost. He shopped around town for the best used parts to help keep the cost down and got the job done within a working day. I bought the car used and he corrected previous mechanics mistakes throughout the entire fuel system, culminating in resetting the firing sequence according to GMC specs and the car runs smooth and like new. The work is holding up over time, no leaks, the gas gauge working, (yea!) all is good and I am pleased in the extreme. All the personal on staff that I have met are all kind, personable people, and I have always been treated with respect with each job large or small. Thank you so much Norman and company. You and your staff are an amazing asset to the Chicago community.
I search for a car on the internet for a year and a half found Western Nissan Avenue I saw a white Nissan Frontier 2008 manual shift for $14,000.00 it took me three days to get a sales person to take me serious. I finally spoke to Don and I ask him to check the car to make sure that it is manual shift he told me yes. I ask what was the next step they fax me the invoice I sent the company a Cashier Check by FEDEX it took 10 days to clear. I got a shipping company to pick up my truck they were the best my truck arrived before the date. My truck had to stay on the US dock for 10 days before export to the Bahamas. When my truck arrive I was very disappointed it was AUTOMATIC not MANUAL TRANSMISSION it was dirty , smelly, no gas and Air conditioning not working. I contacted David to ask for some refund because that was false advertisement with the truck no reply no answer this company don't follow through with there customers. If they follow through I would have sent this company plenty of business but they didn't .I was able to drive the car off the dock with no problem and it still working well after 5 months, I was able to get the ac fix. Overall they just need to be careful with the details of what they advertise on vehicles. I will buy from they again but I will fly to Chicago to see the vehicle. M. Smith from The Bahamas!
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
