Namaste! As a vegan of almost 2 years, I instantly decided to become RAW vegan after tasting the delicious raw vegan cuisine at Cousin's Incredible Vitality in Chicago. Being a suburban girl at heart, I was happy that Cousin's I.V. was so easy to get to since it's just past I-90 heading east on Irving Park Rd. toward Lakeview. If you have never experienced a raw vegan meal, this is the perfect restaurant to visit! If you enjoy a casual yet elegant dining environment, this is the place for you! And let me tell you, the food really is INCREDIBLE! The variety of the menu is absolutely spectacular and the fresh living food choices are outstanding! (Even the water is healthy here because it alkaline and ionized.) Cousin's I.V. is open 7 days a week (11am-10pm) and the $7.95 all-you-can-eat lunch buffet (11am-2:30pm) is delicious and really is an excellent price for the variety and amount. I love the Mediterranean Pasta which has zucchini and sweet potato noodles with a delightful marinara sauce. There is also an organic juice bar where you can order yummy smoothies such as the Cleansing Cocktail which has fresh ginger, apple, celery, beet, orange and cayenne or specialty drinks like the amazing Coco-Latte which has longevity tea, maca, cacao powder, agave, and cinnamon. Cousin's I.V. also offers incredible teas and healing elixirs which promote wellness. Chef Mehmet told me that his goal is to "nourish at a cellular level where nutrients, flavors and the true benefits and spirit of the food resonate and assimilate," and he always says that the key ingredients in his food are "LOVE & GRATITUDE!" After my raw vegan dining experience at Cousin's Incredible Vitality, I felt SO good and I know that you will feel so incredibly amazing too! Peace & Wellness!
I hail from the Isles of the South Seas and had my 1st taste of jerk chicken/turkey/ribs at JAMAICAN ME HUNGRY on my very 1st visit to Chicago just in December. What an WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!! My lady and I walked into the Girl & the Goat at 7ish on a Friday night with no reservation and were eating within 45 minutes, sure we were at the bar but it wasn't long after that that the hostess called our name for a table. We decided to stay at the bar and let a friend I'd bumped into take the table but, like I said, 7 on a Friday night and less than an hour wait is not something that can be complained about. The only thing I didn't love about this place was the space itself. I felt like the decor was a bit disjointed, exposed brick, charred wooden planks, reclaimed wrought iron fire place dealies gives most of the restaurant a rustic feel that much of the menu shares but the bar area did not. That being said, this place is amazing. I'm a big fan of the smaller shareable plates style of eating so that was a winner for me. My date and I started with a loaf of fresh baked bread with a Wisconsin beer cheddar and a plate of oysters that were light and delicious. From there we ordered a few plates to share; pan fried shisheto peppers, sauteed skate, wood roasted pig face, and a goat belly served with lobster and crab meat that simply melted in your mouth. Everything was perfect from the cocktails to the food to the service. Get here soon.
I had a great experience here! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I've been a vegetarian for 10 years but I'd never had raw food before today - it was excellent! It makes me sad to see the negative reviews, but I am going to chalk it up to their warped expectations of a raw food establishment. The food was awesome. It was very Mediterranean inspired, at least at the salad bar, which is what I tried. The second super nice lady that helped me gave me a take out tray that I filled with little samples of every dish (AND a free cup of soup to try!). Wow. When I got home and tried everything, I was thinking about trying their month long carry out program and I still am. I didn't get sick, and in fact, I feel pretty satisfied! Concerning the service, again, I didn't dine in, but this place has a real European feel to it, and if you've been to Europe, your cooks and servers aren't going to jump when you snap your fingers. Think about it, they're taking the time to serve you the purest of food, so relax and enjoy yourself. I will gladly exercise my patience to be the recipient of a great meal. I love this place! In a city that prides itself on pizza that feels like a ton of bricks and other various processed meats, it is about time!!!
We were so excited when Richie opened this bistro in Mt. Greenwood - we had been long-time customers of his Blue Island Pizza joint, Giuseppe's, and anticipated a more adult place to dine. Our first two or three meals here were delightful, an elegant departure from the typical casual offerings of the neighborhood. Business must have been good, because an expansion soon followed, but the quality of the cuisine began to slip. Were we becoming jaded? We found more to complain about - the menu seldom changed, and the ingredients seemed less fresh. The service suffered at times, and the overall experience simply not what it had been in those first heady months after opening. Richie recently renovated Giuseppe's, now called Richie's Too (see review) and quite frankly, we'd rather go there now. The homemade Italian dishes and sauces done so well at Richie's Too are almost absent here, and the bistro-style fare seems tired. Now that his little family place has grown into an elegant swan, the big sister seems tatty. After all, it is all about the food. We will continue to visit Richie's, in the hopes that improvements will come, and because there are simply so few choices in the area. But we are getting a little tired of settling.
The view and decor of this place make the dining experience highly memorable. For that alone, its worth trip. Take all that away though, and you have an very average Cheesecake Factory...minus cheesecake even being on the menu. I probably wouldn't dine here as my first choice but I would give a fair recommendation to anyone seeking to try it out. Drinks & Appetizers The drinks were highly over priced. I ordered one of their signature drinks and it tasted like sugar water. However, they happened to make a Lemon Drop Martini the exact way my wife likes it so they get a pass on this round. We also ordered crab cakes as an appetizer and I have to say that the Sam's Club brand of homemade crab cakes taste better. #KanyeShrug. Entrees I ordered the Shrimp Scampi and it was good. I'd order that again. The shrimp were seasoned to perfection and the pasta sauce was very flavorful. My wife ordered the Chicken Ravello and substituted the chicken for salmon. She was satisfied and enjoyed her meal, but not overly impressed. So if you take her drink and my entree, you have the perfect combination.
I have gone here for breakfast with the family and dinner. I enjoy both. Usually I go for dinner, so what I would recommend is their sirloin steak with grilled onions. As a dinner you get everything. The steak is huge and could probably be eaten in two meals (unless your a heavy eater like me). I like my steak rare, and let me tell you, let your fries soak up the blood and it will taste great. The people are super nice there, I haven't had any bad experiences. Though there hasn't been anything I didn't like at Sally's, you have to try their soup. I like the cream soups and their chicken noodle. It all taste good. I haven't tried it yet but they have some huge desert sundaes that I've seen before. There are three of them but the only two I can remember are the Sears Tower and the John Hancock. If you ever try one, I would say for you yo eat it with 2 or 3 other people and also, put a review up so the rest of the world knows how it is. And lastly, the prices are pretty reasonable. For my usual steak that takes up a whole huge plate, it's $8.75.
After being referd to this restaurant by my father (who was a frequent visitor SEVERAL years ago while on business in the Chicago area). So with my boyfriend currently on business in the Chicago area, I told him we HAD to go. I obviously expected great food but left with so much more! The food was AMAZING!!!!! We shared a full slab rib dinner. And chose coleslaw & their self proclaimed "famous" AuGratin potatoes as our sides. EVERYTHING was DELIGHTFUL!!!! The potatoes were perfect, the coleslaw was the best I've ever had, the ribs were SO flavorful, & the sauce was SO SAVORY!!! And the service, the service was some of THE BEST I've EVER had!!!!!!!! Our waitress was THE BEST WAITRESS I've EVER had!!! I actually wrote the restaurant & thanked them! She wasn't there so much she annoyed you but she just seemed to be there whenever you "needed" her!! I would DEFINETLY recommend this place!!!!!! I will return EVERY time I get a chance!
I've been to this place a few times over the years and I really enjoy going there every time. The food is great and it has very nice, friendly staff. Not to mention great beer! The only slight grievance I would have concerning a most recent visit was that I ordered something that was "on special" for that night, but when we got the bill, the price was the same as it would ordinarily be. I called later and talked to a staff member to make sure we were not overcharged and she confirmed that was indeed the price and said the special of the night more refers to the featured dish of the night. However, she also stated that this dish was available all the time. I find this slightly misleading and suggested they perhaps say, "featured dish of the evening" or something, as "special" implies a lesser price for that day. Either way, I would return there again for sure and hope to in the near future!
This has been a fixture in Chicago since 1971. It was great then, and it's still great now...with no signs of changing their original concept. The atmosphere is homey and informal, and the service is friendly and efficient. In fact, these combine to make the food even that much more enjoyable. The servers are attentive to your needs and make you feel like you're special. But the food is the main reason for visiting R.J. Grunt's. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. And the quality is second to none. Be prepared to use both hands on all the sandwiches, and you may have to stretch your mouth quite a bit to take them in. Everything is piled high; on the sandwich and on your plate. The variety is great, whether you prefer beef, chicken or pork. And the salad is loaded with great stuff, no matter what your taste. So take the time to visit this place and have a great dining experience. Five stars!
