I always have a great time at Mez. The service is good, the people watching is above average, and the drinks are cold.
The food is good, bordering on okay. Though I think it is good and has a beautiful presentation, I never think much else of it, and have a hard time remembering what I had or making recommendations even the day after. It just isn’t that memorable.
However, the vibe is one of the coolest Charlotte has to offer in that it is sleek, trendy and still somehow welcoming. The soft benches and couches in the bar area are alluring and the space easily accommodates a bunch of middle aged white women doing the “Woo Girl” dancing in a circle together thing after a few cocktails.
So for the drinks, the vibe, the scene: Yes. For the food as far as a source of fuel and medium level flavor: Yes. Is it a foodie mecca: No.
Enjoy it for what it is by putting on your cute dress and expecting to see some proudly muscle bound guys sporting an abundance of hair product, and get your groove on with some adult beverages in the bar.

The food at Mez is awful. It really is. I hate to be so blunt, but for what it costs (I spent $130 last night between dinner and a movie), it has been a disappointing experience for me on the last three occasions.
I first went to Mez back in 2008 for an event and had appetizers. I was intrigued so I went back again about a month later for dinner. Loved the food (which had more of a Mediterranean vibe), and I loved the ambiance. I went back again in spring 2010 and the food was still good. However, I went a couple of months later in August 2010, and there was a new menu and a new chef. I tried the Salmon with dill butter which tasted like it had been poisoned. I immediately sent it back. I tried the Mahi Mahi....awful as well. Not even palatable. I just gave up and didn't eat. Yes, I'm a little crazy for going back two times after hating it, but I really wanted to love Mez. I was told that the chef had improved the menu, so I went again a few months later. The food was still bad the next time. And last night, I went and had the cod and my hubby had the lobster tail. Both were really bad and not really edible. And the dessert menu was a joke! The server recommended the ice cream sandwiches which are basically choc. chip cookies and vanilla ice cream. I can make that in my kitchen. I expect more from a restaurant.
When I went last night, I only chose Mez because my hubby and I were seeing a movie in the theatre. However, I will have go to Flemings or Ruth's Chris instead next time which both have AMAZING food. Yeah, it's not the same vibe, but at least I will be excited about what I'm eating.
And just to give you a little bit of background about me, I've lived in Chicago, New York and Boston...all places with great restaurants. I'm a foodie and Mez has just been a disappointment for me. I recommend that the chef reconsider the menu. Or the management should search for a new chef. Please!!! I really want to like Mez but I can't with the current menu. I have a group of 6 girlfriends that I've gone there with who all feel the same way. There's no way that place can stay in biz with food that bad.

Mez is great for a low key movie night and apps, or a girls night out/cocktails destination.
The movie theater is great because you can pick your own seats ahead of time online! You can also eat an actual meal, and enjoy a cocktail while you watch the movie!
For a night out the patio at Mez has an amazing view of Uptown, and the inside of the bar has a really cool lounge feel that is still upbeat.
