I simply can't believe the one review where the lady says that Dr. Stephens was rude and rough and that she and her staff were anything but nice. They are a fun group of women who truly care about their patients, not just the gynecologic health and well being of the patient but also how things are going for their jobs, families, etc. They try to have fun while doing their jobs. I have seen and heard Dr. Stephens work with young girls who are scared to death to be examined as well as women of all ages with problems and concerns. Even when the patient is being unreasonable and difficult (in my estimation), Dr. Stephens tries to remain calm and reassuring and helpful. We have to remember that everyone has good and bad days, even doctors, so sometimes people just may not respond to every person the way she expects. I usually am able to get in and out of the office quickly, but sometimes the doctor has had an emergency to deal with or a patient requiring more time and attention and I will have to wait a bit longer. In those cases, she always apologizes for the wait, tries to explain the reason for the delay, and then turns all of her attention to me and any problem that I am having.
If you want a caring, dedicated gynecology office, I strongly encourage women of all ages to check out this office. They understand me and my female problems and try to meet all of my needs in a respectful and fun-loving and knowledgable way.

My visit to this office was an absolute nightmare. I showed up fifteen minutes early to my appointment and still waited an hour. While waiting, I overheard the nurses and receptionist gossiping about other people in the building. At one point a man walked in. I think he worked somewhere close by. But the entire staff swarmed him and began flirting with him. I have never in my entire life seen grown professional women reduced to giggling school girls the way these women were. When I finally got called back the nurse was loud and obnoxious. She took minimal information before going back to the front desk to gossip. I waited another fifteen minutes before Dr. Stephens came in.
Dr. Stephens was perhaps the rudest person I've ever met. She rushed through the pelvic exam and scolded me for not knowing what a pap smear felt like. She was very rough. When I told her that I was nervous about the pap smear, she replied, ""its not like bigger things havent been down there."" This really upset me because she had not yet taken a sexual history so she was obviously just making assumptions. After the pap smear, I got very emotional because we were discussing possible illnesses. I began to cry and was told to ""save my hysterics"" for another time. I tried to ask questions, but Dr. Stephens practically rushed me out the door. When she did bother to answer, she was incredibly condescending, often rolling her eyes and talking to me like a child.

I have been a patient of Dr. Stephens for 4 years. I had continuous bleeding problems and saw her many times in one year (I told her if we kept meeting like this, I'd have to take her to dinner). She worked very hard to get my problem under control and never made me feel like I was a bother.
After I stopped having the bleeding issues, and only saw her once a year, she remembered every petty detail of my personal life, where I worked, went to school, etc.
Last year, when I found out I was pregnant, I was disappointed to learn that she no longer delivered babies. She did agree to see me at 8 weeks, and do my first prenatal appointment. I brought my husband along and to my delight, she performed an ultrasound, which a lot of offices wont do until about 20 weeks. Thats how we found out we were having twins. I was so happy that Dr Stephens was the one to tell us. (She turned the screen and said ""Okay, theres baby number 1...."" and then joined my husband and I in laughing and yelling, it was a wonderful experience. She put up with my giggling through the rest of the ultrasound (next time I did that at my new doctors office, the tech got really pissy with me)
Her staff is wonderful. Cherry in her billing department was always very helpful with my insurance questions, and would determine if certain services were covered before I made my decision. I was having trouble with my new OB and called Gail, her nurse, and she was able to get a different doctors office to take me after the 26 week cutoff.
I have continued to go to Dr. Stephens even though I am over an hour away and will continue to do so after the babies are born. If you really want personalized care, I highly recommened Dr. Stephens

Dr. Stephens was my doctor in Huntersville and saved my life! After that I decided to make her my new OB-GYN. She later moved offices to Charlotte, but now that I live in Charlotte I am definitely going back to her. I actually did a city search on my area to see what the best rated OB-GYN was and go figure, Dr. Stephens!

With my first pregnancy I ended up in the hospital with raised hives all over my hospital, having trouble breathing, etc. When I was released Dr. Kathryn Stephens did not even want to see, the office staff said unless I was bleeding there was no need to see me. I even wrote her a detailed letter explaining my disappointment in my experience.....never heard back from her.
I switched obstetricians right away before my pregnancy progressed. I later found out that Dr. Stephens was being sued by a former patient, the article was in the Charlotte Observer. I was not surprised at all given the way they had no regard for my health or my baby's. I have a great doctor now who delivered my children.

I am truly amazed! This was my first experience at Laurel Ob/Gyn Associates and I highly recommend it to anyone. Walking into the building you feel like you have just entered a tropical resort as there are skylights above you and plants on either side of the walkway. The building may be older, but it definitely has not lost its charm! Dr. Stephen's office is also very comfortable and welcoming. The receptionist and nurses were super friendly and polite. It felt like visiting an old friend rather than a trip to the doctor! Dr. Stephens definitely exceeded my expectations too, (which is unbelievable because I had already heard she was fantastic)! Obviously no one enjoys having to go to the gynecologist, but she definitely put my mind at ease, and made me feel so much better overall. I left there feeling happy and relaxed, and I was then, conveniently, able to walk right into the pharmacy to fill my prescription since it was connected to the building. The people in the pharmacy were equally as inviting and sincere, making this entire experience wonderful. There is no need to waste your time going to a condescending or preoccupied doctor in Charlotte as long as Laurel Ob/Gyn Associates is here. I wish them all the best, and I can't thank them enough!

Dr. Kathryn Stephens is definitely the best Ob/Gyn doctor in Charlotte, NC. Ten years ago, I was dianosed with endometriosis and uterine fibroids. She performed the surgery that not only helped me with my painful conditions but she also went the extra mile to save my uterus so that it could still be possible for me to have children. Of course she could not promise me that for certtain. She helped me with fertility issues when I did try to conceive. She was the most conforting, compassionate, and humorous doctor I have ever known. I now have 2 beautiful children(now 7 and 8 years old) and I have Dr. Stephens to thank for it. She also was responsible for delivering both of my children. If you want a doctor who cares about your well being as a women, who will help you through any difficult time, and who can bring humor into your life when the odds are against you...get an appointment with Dr. Stephens.

Dr. Stephens is a fabulous doctor with a patient, down-to-earth approach to you and your family members. She identified a dermoid cyst that other doctors never found, but was making me crazy. She took me through surgery and kept my very concerned husband, and overly-inquisitive former nurse mom comfortable and at ease through the whole experience. She's well worth the trip downtown and the sometimes longer wait.
The office is older, but it also isn't nearly as pretentious.

I ended up at Laurel OBGYN because I was not satisfied with a diagnosis I recieved from another doctor. I went to Dr. Stephens for a second opinion. The staff was able to get me in for an appointment with no problem. The doctor listened to my concerns and did my yearly pap exam. She took me back in her office while she looked up information about the right medication to prescribe. Highly recommended.

Dr. Stephens at Laurel Ob/Gyn Associates is one of the best gynecologists Ive ever had. It is no fun for any woman to go for annual exams, but Dr. Stephens relaxed my nerves and answered all my questions carefully and thoughtfully. I cant remember the last time a doctor spent so much time with me. She even took me into her office after my exam to talk about some further testing she wanted, what the tests were, etc. I had to wait awhile (45 minutes) to see her, but if she treats all her patients with such respect and takes the time to answer all their questions as she did mine, I think its worth the wait. The office itself is kind of run-down, old, and not easy to find, but I will definitely go back for future exams.
