The Imax/Omnimax Theater at Discovery Place is a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening watching movies and films on a 50-foot screen.

This is the only IMAX that I've ever been to that I have NOT fully enjoyed. It cost about $17,000 to upgrade to 3D and that experience is The Best. Our family would be there for every 3D show. Most theatres with this technology charge more for ticket prices to defer the cost which is alright because the 3D experience is awesome.
Some movies are filmed for the 3D effect and they are kind of boring shown 2D (exp: Sharks 3D has a greater effect than the 2D version shown at Omnimax).
I hope they get with the times soon because it's sad to seen smaller cities making quicker technological advances. Charlotte is a major city that should have modern technology, especially as this Omnimax is affiliated with a SCIENCE center.

Although I love viewing Imax films, and have never failed to enjoy any film I've seen here, I agree with
appstate98, re: A Night At The Museum. I don't understand why this film was distributed as both flat screen and Imax. The copy I viewed was clearly NOT Imax. Don't waste your money on this one as Imax. See it on a flat screen. On Imax it is as stretched as a Mercator map with poor depth-of-field and many out-of-focus spots. Could the theatre have been showing a copy intended for flat screen use? This is my first complaint as to the quality of an Imax movie in probably 20 films. Overall, Imax films are worth the price of admission, but this one is a stinker.

I have visited this place at least 4 times and I love each time I went. Excellent learning projects for all ages. Excellent classes that increases your information about the habitat and animals. Excellent eating area and clean. Would love to see an additional place for students to create their own projects or re-create projects on hand to inhance learning.
