""They play guitar, in this fancy bar, out on North Davidson. And here is a shocker, the chef's a punk rocker, and there are also lesbians!""
So begins a poem from one of the many patrons that have frequented Dolce Vita, this oasis amid the ever evolving artist/musician/gallery/restaurant/music venue/bar scene, along North Davidson Street.
Proprietors Irma Wolfe and Alexis Batista, fled the corporate world in the early 2000's, with a vision - to throw caution (and used beach chairs) to the wind, and open a wine bar - and to help breathe life into the artistic force of creativity that would be known worldwide, as NoDa.
While your idea of the sweet life may vary, such a journey through the streets of Charlotte is worth the time, to find this unassuming storefront, which within, belies an array of artistic canvas expressions, California surf culture, bicycles, and the occasional poetry reading. On the more adventurous evenings, you may experience Karaoke, or live music.
Crammed between Cabo Fish Taco, and Sin City NoDa, Dolce Vita has been able to keep the public engaged and revisiting, while other venues and galleries have come and gone in its near 8 year existence on North Davidson Street. This can be attributed to the rather large selection of wines, along with imported/domestic beers, sake, gourmet-meets-chic menu items, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff.
There is hardly a reason to have a bad experience at Dolce Vita; I have visited this place many times, and there is never a dull moment. Urban Hipsters mingle with the blue collar, white collar and no collar patrons, as well as the pierced and tattooed mohawk wearing crowd. It is the perfect place to people watch.
