Throughout the years, this place has gone from bad to worst... The food and the service have alot to be desired. The food is VERY greasy, of poor quality and not tasty. Sorry to say, Charlotte, NC. does not offer a good selection for a Dim Sum Restaurant anywhere local. Please don't waste your time or your money here.

Today was my first time eating the the Dim Sum restaurant. I have never tried Dim Sum before, but always wanted to. We went around 4pm on Saturday. Upon entering the restaurant we immediately noticed a ""weird"" smell. Kind of like something spoiled. We think it may have been the lobster and fish tanks. It took a minute for someone to greet us, but once we sat down the service could not have been better. The staff was excellent and very helpful. We asked what we should eat and the waitress showed us the varieties of Dim Sum that were popular. We were served very quickly and the food was great! There were a couple of dishes that really did not suite us (the jelly fish and the leek dim sum, for example) but the eggplant dim sum and the pork OH MY GOD! Fabulous. The fried rice was very good too - lots of authentic style veggies in there. The chili paste on the table was great too!
The food was good and the service was better. We didn't feel inferior because we didn't know what to order and everyone was just super.
The only bad things were the weird smell at first and the iced tea was quite nasty. But hey, everything else was great.
I will be returning!

Okay so I spent eight (8) years in Sydney, Australia. Am married to an Asian and had ""dim sum"" almost every weekend. There is a very large population of Chinese in Sydney (they too have a Chinatown like San Francisco and NY).
I moved backed to the USA and we chose Greenville, SC - and I realized how much I missed my trips for ""dim sum"". We met another Asian couple who told us about this restaurant in Charlotte and said it was ""ok"".
My first impression was that they were not organized when greeting people (no real hostess) and just sat whoever walked up to them first. If I hadn't been assertive I would have been waiting quite some time.
They sat us in a part of the restaurant where the employees pushing the carts around didn't see (nor did they bother to look) so we had to call out for them to bring over the food to us so we could look. Everything was either luke warm or cold. The chicken feet (one of my favorites) was surprisingly good as was the stuffed eggplant. However everything else was below average. Nothing had a really ""fresh"" taste. The shrimp dumplings tasted frozen and they kept sticking to the other har gow since they were overcooked.
I would probably go on a weekend and right around 12pm so that it is as ""fresh"" as possible. If there isn't another dim sum restaurant around then I would go knowing not to expect much. For me (and I'm a picky eater) it would suffice. For the true Asian - not sure if you would be happy.
Who knows - maybe it was a ""bad day"".......it was New Years Day after all!

We drove all the way from south Charlotte to try what we were told is the best dim sum in town. We were disappointed with the really limited selection. We figured since it was a Saturday afternoon (1pm) it would be the height of dim sum service with the full array of offerings. There were only 4 other tables occupied. The flavors of the the different dishes (we had shu mai, hum bow, har gow, steamed pork buns and a couple of others) were not bad. There wasn't, however, a large enough selection. I did not really care for the egg custard tarts (they smelled really ""eggy"" and weren't very sweet) or the pineapple bun. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit. After all, I know of only 2 places in the Charlotte metro area that have dim sum cart service. Neither one compares to dim sum in San Francisco, let alone, Hong Kong.

Don't order carry out from this place:
This restaurant miscalculated my orders all the time, always overcharged me. In addition, they often gave me the wrong carry out items - items other people ordered, and asked me to drive all the way back to exchange.
Food is not fresh if you order on a Monday or Tuesday, taste like the left over from the weekend.

If you have no idea what dim sum is I recommend you dont try this restaurant. Based on what I have tried in Hong Kong and Singapore, its based on frozen ones you can buy from the chinese groceries store. But if you have never eaten dim sum in Asia you may not know. The owner asked us about the food, when we told them we had to change 2 dishes becos they were not fresh, all she said was that she will take not the next time. Guess what, for my wife and I...no more next time...

I didn't try the full menu, but the Dim Sum is as traditional as anything that I tried in Hong Kong, Beijing, or Shanghai. I lived in Asia briefly and this was my first return to Asian food. I was a bit nervous about this restaurant's authenticity, but everything was delicious and authentic. The portions are pretty generous as far as Dim Sum goes.

For authentic Chinese dim sum, this is your place.
But beware... authentic means AUTHENTIC. If you're squeamish you may want to skip the chicken feet, etc. It's best if you go with someone who knows the place and can recommend certain dishes.
Even if this isn't your kind of food, you should at least try it once.

It is a real Dim Sum restaurant reminiscent of others in the Chinatowns of San Francisco and Montreal - though the restaurant is smaller and the menu reflects it (no Tofu-Fa). There are Large Family sized tables, the fried/steamed/dumpling carts, and yes, the chicken feet and tripe are right there. It's got all the important stuff, Sticky Rice in Banana Leaf, Char Siu, Roast Duck, Sesame Balls! Yum!
What strikes me funny is that they have two different menus - one ""regular"" (Americanized) menu and a ""REAL"" chinese menu with all the good stuff. The place is designed for families, but we regularly go as a couple.
It is most crowded on weekends. They open at 11AM. Go early for quickest seating, as the rush shows up at about noon.

We consider ourselves fairly knowledgable about Dim Sum. We previously lived in the San Francisco Bay area and Ive had Dim Sum in many places, including Hong Kong. The Dim Sum Restaurant is very good - especially seeing that they do not appear to have any competition.
The decor is spartan - but we went for the food not the ambience. The selection was very broad and service and prices were very good. A good measure of the quality is that ratio of Asian-to-Caucasian patrons was about 10-to-1. My only complaint is that some dishes were too bland and could have used more spices. Considering that we had to drive 2-1/2 hours to get there I would consider the trip worthwhile!

I tried this place a while back. I thought I would try it again hoping that there would be some improvement in food quality. However, it may have been worse than last time. Last time it was not really good either.
Dim Sim here is terrible. It is the worst Dim Sum restaurant I have ever eaten. Most of it is not tasty and food is also very heavy. Dim Sum is suppose to be light and not heavy in the stomach. It is a snack food.
