THE OWNER SETTLES FOR NOTHING BUT THE BEST FROM THE SERVERS, THE MANAGERS, AND OFCOURSE THE FOOD PREPERATION, AND PRESENTATION, THE TASTE IS TOPPED BY NONE. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST RESTAURANT IN ALL OF CHARLOTTE. HERE YOU WILL FIND THE BEST CHEFS.

We sat on the patio for lunch and had a lovely glass of wine.......I ordered a salad and so did my friend. I asked for lemon with my water and had to ask again, ran out of water and she didn't refill my glass, the salad was very, very small; something I could have easily done myself at home. The clencher was that when I gave her the coupon, BOGO, there was a real attitude problem. The waitress would not come pick up our bill and I had to get up to go find her. We both knew to tip on the full amount BEFORE the discount. I left her 10% which I never do. I always leave 20%. My friend has been going through a serious illness and this type of behavior was reprehensible. She was needing to get home to go to bed. I will never return and recommend you don't got there either.

I went to City Tavern the other night with my 2 kids and had an absolutely lovely dinner. While they don't have a ""kids menu"", they were very accomodating at giving us options my kids would like.
I thought the dinners were very tasty (I loved the fresh snap peas with my crab cake), and I was very impressed with how professional the staff of servers were. Our server was very friendly and helpful himself, but twice, when he was assisting other tables, another server as well as the owner came over to check on us. Good team work.
We will definitely be back!!
Once again, our experience was great.....there new wine list and 3 Course Specials are some of the best in town.......Sounds like some of the not so favorable reviews are employee's who were fired......not meeting the standard of service we're used to!
My husband and I dine at this restaurant quite often. Each time we go here, the service and the food are always top notch. Our favorite appetizer is the Tempura Fried Asparagus. I think I have had almost every Entree on their dinner menu and I have NOT had a bad bite yet. This is one of our favorite restaurants and we will continue to dine here.

The service SUCKS! and the food SUCKS! Not if you gave me their food for free would I ever eat in any of their places. Trust me, I believe in giving all restaurants three chances, not this place. I wouldn't take a doggy bag home to my dog from their CRAP hole locations.
If you don't believe me just read the other reviews. SUCKS! and I am happy to say it. Should be less A negative BIG FAT 0 !!

My husband and I decided to try this place out before attending a movie next door. I was immediately thrown off by the awful silk flowers in cheap planters near the entrance, but went ahead and were seated. After I got a quick look at the vase of wilted flowers sitting in disgusting pond water on our table, the terrible plastic tablecloths and a menu that was so incredibly varied that there was NO way anything could be done properly on it, I had a moment of panic and almost wanted to bolt straight for the front door and leave.
Our server was strange. I wouldn't say rude, but definitely not a people person, and he was dripping with sarcasm when we asked for ranch dressing and he said they'd run out and only had enough for salads.
I ordered a chicken philly, thinking it had the least chance of being completely inedible. As I sat there waiting for my food, the only thought I had was that I hoped I wasn't going to get sick from eating here. That is NOT what you should be thinking about when waiting for your lunch. When it arrived, what I was basically handed was some soggy bread and melted cheese with a few flavorless chunks of chicken and a huge pile of the absolute worst french fries I have ever eaten. They were completely hollow, chewy, stale and BLAND.
My husband ordered a plain burger. He said the burger was fine, but he also did not touch his french fries.
For the price, this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant, nor any of it's other locations.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE!!! After the steroid infested bartender, Billy, misunderstood my husband’s complement for an insult, he continued to threaten and challenge him to MUCH discomfort to us and other patron’s around us. Even after we apologized for the misunderstanding, Billy would NOT let up! Give up the steroids BILLY!!!
I am a VERY SUCCESSFUL business owner, and if I was the owner or manger of this restaurant, the bartender would be ON THE STREET looking for a job TONIGHT!!! We happened to be sitting next to the manager of a nearby restaurant, Firebirds, which is an excellent place to eat and has incredible customer service, and even he agreed that the bartender was WAY OUT OF LINE! I have NEVER in my 40+ years of life been treated so poorly…honestly; I still CANNOT even believe what transpired tonight!!! I have NEVER experienced such a situation OR written a bad review about a restaurant EVER, but this situation could NOT be ignored!
If you knew me, you would not believe I was even taking the time to write this, but others need know before their wonderful night out with their significant other is ruined by a ""muscle head,"" steroid and testosterone ridden bartender! BILLY…YOU’RE FIRED!!!

OK...we have been here several times because they have good drink specials. The bartender was actually a rude at first and then warmed up...so maybe he was just having a bad day?
The food though...let's just say - don't bother. Go for drinks and find another place for food. We've tried their food 3 times hoping the first couple times were just bad flukes. But alas, the food stinks. All their gravies/sauces/dressings all taste artificial. Like cheap bottled stuff.
The chicken wasn't premium because it wasn't tender. Same for the burgers....over-cooked, flavorless and dry. I wish I could say something positive about the food...oh wait - the first time, when they weren't out of bread...the bread was actually tasty.
As far as service, our last guy was pretty attentive. But the two times before that they were forgetting the order and hardly ever came back to the table to check on us. If you can't remember the order, then just write it down...it's not difficult.
I will still go back for drinks again though because they carry premium liquor.
We went to the Stonecrest (Rea Rd.) location with our baby in tow. Upon arrival about 6:15 on a Tuesday we found that the restaurant was on a wait even though 40% or better of the tables were open. Nonetheless, we decided to wait even though there really is not space to stand and wait. After waiting about fifteen minutes another couple came in and was seated immediately. When this happened a second time I asked the person doing the seating what the deal was; she went ahead and sat the other couple and still told us we had to wait. I insisted on speaking to the manager. The guy on duty was quite unresponsive and I very quickly realized that he was the problem and not the solution. I gave up and left the restaurant.
When we got home I wrote the "firstname.lastname@example.org" email address and presented what had happened. I was contacted by the owner of the operation and he basically offered me way too much to make me feel better. In part he did this because this was a return visit to give the restaurant a chance because of a rather similar incident. Anyway, the owner did offer me a gift card to his restaurant and said he would send it out immediately and that the General Manager of the store would also contact me. Needless to say that neither of these things happened.
It is obvious that the management and ownership of this restaurant is not interested in quality guest service or living up to what they say they will do.
DO NOT LET THIS OPERATION GET A PENNY OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH COMPETITION DOING IT THE BETTER WAY!!!

My first experience at a City Tavern (Rivergate location, not Rea Rd.) was half-way pleasant - it was the service that disappointed me a LOT. My friend and I were seated promptly, the food was served very quickly for the most part, and it was very good (we had the Sunday all-u-can-eat crab special), but our server was a big disappointment. She didn't give me any details about the crab special, such as what side items were served with it - I had to ask. (I wish I'd been given an option of subbing some other side dish other than mashed potatoes and a squash/zuchinni mix since I don't really eat either of those, so it was a waste of food and space on my plate.) She 'forgot' and put our appetizer order in after our dinner order, so the appetizer arrived about 10 mins after the entrees did. She forgot what we were drinking (just sweet tea), she forgot the extra napkins we asked for (had to ask for those again), she delayed in putting in the 2nd order of crab for our table (I told her to wait 5 mins, but I ended up waiting at least 15 mins for it to arrive, while the 3rd order of crab arrived VERY promptly - something tells me she forgot to put that 2nd order in until we reminded her of it), and she forgot to ask if we wanted dessert. Isn't it funny how I've forgotten her name? A shame, since if I ever DO go back there to eat again, I'd want to specify that I DON'T want to sit in her section.
I read many reviews for City Tavern before deciding to go there, and I'm sad to say that they were right on the head about the poor service for such a high-priced restaurant. Another thing they were correct in was the poor layout of the restaurant, in that it was hard for my friend and I to hear each other when talking since all of the noise around us drowned us out. My standards for quality of service aren't excessively high, but I do like to get my money's worth - spending that much on a dinner for two should have been much better than what we experienced.

I am a regular customer. This newer City Tavern in Ballantyne gives diners a very pleasant experience. The lunch and dinner menus provide a variety of options at very affordable prices, which are presented very well. I have not been disappointed at all by my selections. There is a banquet room and the events staff is excellent. The service is very good also. They also have Sunday brunch from a menu selection.
