I live half an hour away from ...

I live half an hour away from this salon, without traffic. If I could find a closer salon that came even close to its quality, I would go there instead. No other hair salon has been able to take my home chemist personality and difficult, wavy, thin hair and do anything useful with it. Colouring: My stylist calls me the home chemist. One time, I went a little crazy and bleached my locks too soon after dyeing it BACK from bleaching. This was the day before my graduation. The color was bright yellow. They fit me in as an emergency fix, gave me a sandy blonde colour to patch up the botched job, and even left some highlights in to give it dimension. This was with minimal attention, because the colourist actually had another client at the same time, and it still turned out perfectly. My mother has gotten a lot of styling jobs from the same salon, and hers always turn out looking very natural, while masking the grey that's starting to come in. I've seen other colouring jobs that were on the other side of the spectrum--very bold and startling--too, so I would say they have an acceptable range. Styling: I have switched hairdressers a few times; they all have distinct point of view, which sometimes means that the styling wasn't quite how I wanted. I'm VERY low-maintenance, and I've been going to Michelle down at the Arboretum branch for that reason. Before her, I was going to Anthony up at this branch, and he is GREAT, just his hair styles are more for someone who is willing to put in a little work, and I'm a college student. With that said, though, I've had everything from a super short cut to bangs to long, layered hair, and they've done a great job with each. The price range for stylists starts at about $35, and that's mostly for people just starting out at the salon. They're all trained well, however, and I've had two beginning stylists with no problem. The people there are very friendly and receptive, and they always offer beverages and have good magazines for the waiting room, not to mention the comfy seats. :]

went to Madusu's about a month...

went to Madusu's about a month ago for Senegalese twists. ( I paid $180 for the smallest size and $5 for an extra color). i wanted to wait a little while before reviewing to see how they looked after time went by. When I walked into the place, no one spoke to me. I pretty much announced to the entire salon that I had a 10am appointment before being addressed. When discussing the hair color I wanted, she pointed to a color somebody else had and said "thats the darkest brown we have". I wanted to see the collection myself for ideas, which she didnt let me do. when looking back at the collection, i saw it was in a closet, pack of hair piled on each other, unorganized. I asked her (the owner was doing my hair). she showed how irritated she was when I asked a few questions about my hair, like are they all the same size and do they have to be braided at the ends. She said to me "when you get your hair done, you should let the professional do the hair. they know what's best and what looks good". I felt disrespected and that I was being scolded. If I have questions, and I am paying, I should receive answers. Meanwhile, another girl is sitting on the bench for over an hour and a half waiting for her braider to come. when i first arrived, i asked how long it would be. she said about 8 hours. I was prepared for that. it took 11.5 hours to do my hair. In the end. my hair DOES look good. none have fallen nor unraveled, and i have gotten plenty of compliments. But I wont be going back to Madusu's

I was in need of a hair makeov...

I was in need of a hair makeover; but didn't really have an idea of what I wanted. I was ready for a new perspective from the hairdresser I had been seeing for years. When I read a review of 8 the Salon; it described exactly what I was looking for- they assess your features and match your hair style to compliment or bring out your best possible looks with the capabilities of your own hair type. I called to schedule an appointment and found the staff to be very congenial and was able to get an appointment scheduled to fit the timeframe I requested without any hesitation. When I arrived, I found the salon was immaculate, and the staff very personable-everyone was smiling and upbeat, they spoke to the guest and each other with respect- very professional. Brittani was my stylist she explained why my features needed the types of hair styles that we can consider and then taught me how to style the cut, and suggested the products to maintain the style. I am thrilled with the style; and my hair is cut according to its natural tendency to fall, so IT JUST LOOKS GREAT! I can't remember when I have been this happy with my hairstyle. I give 8 the Salon my highest recommendation, I can't say enough for the staff and Britanni in particular- they are the best!

You will LOVE your hair!

Richard was highly recommended to me by a friend after I moved here from California. He is as talented as anyone in Beverly Hills! Truly knows how to cut (dry "so you can see how your hair moves") and my color went from a flat honey blonde to a shiny, multi-dimensional blonde bombshell! I felt like a movie star walking out of that salon! Watching him cut your hair is like being in the hands of an artist/sculpter. You will NOT be disappointed with your cut and color. When you sit in that chair, and Richard listens, analyzes, and creates your best look, you are indeed investing in yourself, so it is nice to know that you really get your money's worth! The salon is comfortable (separate area/room) for each stylist) and the staff are so friendly (coffee, cookies, water?) Prices are competitive and well worth it. I took my college-daughter to the salon for a cut ... Richard immediately showed her the buildup on her never-colored hair; it was full of waxy, heavy conditioners, and needed a thorough cleansing. He used a clarifying shampoo and rinsed her hair to a glossy silk! He cut beautiful layers throughout her thick hair, and she walked out of there with that "Kim Kardashian" cut she wanted!

This was my first trip to Yvel...

This was my first trip to Yvelisse's Salon and I loved it! I recently moved to Charlotte and was concerned about finding a new hair salon to care for my natural hair. My last hair stylist pressed my hair with the old fashioned hot comb and hot flat iron (not the ceramics, but the ones that actually go on the hotbed). She advised me to try a Dominican shop after I moved, so I did. My mother suggested I try Yvelisse's and I was able to walk right in to have my blow-out done within an hour, but it was on a Tuesday. The salon itself is beautiful and I was greeted and treated kindly from the moment I walked in! I would have given them 5 stars, but I felt the services were a little more costly than what I'm used to. I paid $55 for a wash, condition (I got the $5 one), blow-out and my ends trimmed. Yvelisse actually gave me the conditioning for free, so it would have been $60. However, I will definitely go back because my hair looks and feels wonderful! I would definitely recommend this salon!

Fabulous Hair!

Thank you Armis, for five years of fabulous hair! I took a chance five years ago and walked into a salon in search of a new hair stylist; one who could help me keep my hair long but also manage the ever-increasing gray. I found the best stylist I've ever had. Not once have I been unhappy with my hair since that day. And I'm very picky when it comes to my hair. I'm so pleased Armis has opened her own salon. It speaks highly of her professionalism and talent. She always greets people with a smile, asks how they've been and genuinely cares about the response. On visits when I want to make a change in color or cut, Armis listens to me. She has good ideas and takes the time to get it right. Why, I've even had people ask me, "Who does your hair?". It's a pleasure to tell them. And that speaks more highly of Armis than it does my hair. So, for anyone looking for a smart, talented, professional, caring master stylist, I can honestly recommend Armis.

90 Degrees Salon

I relocated to Charlotte, NC last year and have been unable to find a great hair stylist (and a professional salon) who can do my hair for almost a year now (I have tried 4 other salons). That was until I was referred to Sarah Chambers at 90 Degrees hair salon in Charlotte, NC. From the moment I walked in the door, I experienced professionalism from of all the staff. Sarah was such a breath of fresh air – so professional, stylish, sweet and personable! She did an AMAZING job with my hair – seriously one of the BEST hair styles I have ever had! She was focused on every detail of my hair, took her time and was so helpful with showing me how to style it. Even after she was done blow drying my hair she took time to make sure everything was perfect. I will definitely go again and highly recommend Sarah Chambers and the 90 Degrees hair salon. They have by far the best hair stylist (Sarah) and they are the best hair salon in Charlotte, NC.

BEST HAIR SALON IN CHARLOTTE!!! If you're looking for a competent, seasoned professional stylist to cut, color and style your hair, you have finally found "the" place!!! It's right next to the Common Market in South End - super cool location - the place looks like it's carved right out of Manhattan - brick walls, great lighting, wood floors and high ceilings - loft style - and the stylists know what they are doing!!! I've seen all kinds of customer's young guys, business men, wedding parties, young ladies and woman of all ages. This salon does it all - and I've been a repeat customer for years. Lanie is my stylist and there is not a more competent or gifted colorist and designer that I have ever experienced. You walk in feeling eh okay, kinda bleh, you walk out feeling like a million bucks - like a shot of espresso or two for the ego, I call it a self esteem booster!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND - YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Go! You won't regret it!

After my stylist moved to Arizona I was looking for a new one in town and found Jason Viers through his wife Cara Viers from the dance dept. of the Harris Y) and his newly founded salon, Salon 42 (used to be Dilworth Hair). Jason has a cheerful, upbeat quirkiness to him! He clearly has never worked a day in his life because he simply LOVES what he does, don't we all want that!?. He's good at it, he takes his time to hear you and he fits right in in the ambiance of his Salon, edgy but comfortable at the same time. The music in the salon rocks and his staff are always "on". No Eyeores here, only Tiggers. Now my husband and two daughters also go there and we love it. His rates are reasonable and I have never had a scheduling issue. It's located right next door to RuSan's, parking is a breeze and is in easy reach of both South Charlotte and Uptown alike.

BLESSED BUISNESS!!!

Elizabeth and her husband Juan are examples of what married help mates exemplifies. Liz explained from the beginning what my hair needed and how she will teach me how to maintain it. What I noticed about the couple was that they were not trying to convince me to come back in order for them to continually make money, yet they were educating on the ongoing maintenance of my hair, with or without them. Elizabeth did not hide her products like most (for the sole purpose of you having to return to make money off of you). They were friendly and my experience was fulfilling. Not only is Liz an excellent hair stylist, but she is a beautiful Spirted person as her husband Juan. I foresee them as not only my now personal stylist, they are also my friends! I feel so blessed to have had the privilege to meet such a sweet couple! May God bless anything they touch!
