Disappointed after all the hype.

After hearing all of the hype of the Jucy Lucy burger for years, I convinced by husband to try a new restaurant, one that we hadn't been to before, up in Champlin at the 5-8, where I knew they served these unique cheeseburgers. We arrived around 11:45 on a Saturday afternoon and found only 3 tables being taken, so we seated ourselves and our waitress came to us right away. I didn't need to look at the menu for very long and ordered the Jucy Lucy, plus paying the extra money for the fries and coleslaw. I think it might normally just come with chips. My husband ordred the Philly, which comes with the fries. Our food came out and at first glance, it looked pretty good. The patty was placed between 2 grilled buns with pickles. I cut it in half to avoid the molten lava bursting into my mouth, which I had been warned about. The american cheese was oozing out the middle and at first bite, I was disappointed. The meat was overdone and dry and completely lacking in flavor. Thanks goodness for all the cheese or it would have been like eating a hockey puck. After eating about half, I was starting to wish we would have made the treck down to the Convention Grill for one of their burgers with smoked chedder and fried onions. The fries at the 5-8 were horrible. Undercooked and cold. Again, I found myself craving the fresh cut fries that the Convention Grill is known for.

My husband said his Philly was ""ok"" at best, but nothing to rave about and nothing to come back for.

The waitress was nice and did a great job, making sure to refill our drinks timely, however with only 2 other tables to wait on, this is to be expected. She did, however, fail to offer us dessert, which is a big strike against any waitress in my husband's eyes, as he ALWAYS makes room for dessert.

Unfortunately, we will not be coming back.

Must-eat Burgers

Packed little bar/restaurant is worth checking out for the burger lover. I didn't see the kitchen, but I'm guessing by the taste that it's still the old-school grease griddle. They have a fairly large menu for what it is, but why try anything else when the burgers are so good.
