If you are an aspiring individual that aims to help others in a meaningful and positive way so that they may adapt into a lifestyle of a recovering addict or a recovering alcoholic do not work here. When the new executive director walked in there was an eighty percent turn over rate with both hourly and salary workers quitting or being fired. This new executive director is clueless, greedy, and beyond any hope. The schedule that patients operate within the week and weekend does not cater to an individual seeking the recovery they need. There are not enough meetings a week, for instance, and consequently patients feel trapped and imprisoned in an institution where they don't feel they are getting the help they deserve. I would implore any person seeking to work in the recovery industry to avoid this place at any cost. Go somewhere else.

My parents sent me to Desert Palms from Florida because they felt I needed a change of scenery. I had been to two other facilities before desert palms and i have to say that it was the best experience i've ever had getting sober. Yeah, they were pretty tough on me but that's because I was hard headed and a jerk. I complained for the first two weeks because I wanted my way and they didn't give in. I finally felt myself and my perspective turn towards the positive for the first time in my entire life and I owe that to my therapist and the techs at desert palms because they were so patient and loving and they really loved me until i was ready to love myself. The food was good, it wasn't gourmet but it wasn't starchy and unhealthy like the other places. There were plenty of activities and I really enjoyed that we were kept so busy. If you want to go somewhere to learn a lot about yourself and be surrounded by people who treat you like an equal and lift you up instead of break you down, this is the place to go.

This program is a joke, they lie to you to get you there and take ur phone away so you can't leave for at least 6 days.. treat you like sub par humans when it is suppose to be a "luxury facility". They seriously over drug their clients long after detox, the food is soooooo bad, basically not edible, they won't work with special diets, I was personally discharged a week before I graduated because I yelled at another patient that deserved it and he told on me that I threatened him so the staff made up extra excuses to discharge me that were so far from the truth it's a disgrace to their facility and company name.. the staff is i knowledgeable and mean for no reason, treating grown men and women as children.. just because they have "nice" facilities they feel they can get away with murder, and they have.. the website lies about massages (that cost crazy extra), all kinds of personal and family therapy included (that no one on staff is qualified to actually do example edmr and many other cognitive therapies). The overprescribe their patients to overcharge the insurance companies and the "cocktail" of drugs I was given made my left hand go numb and unable to function to which they told me I must have shot up in a nerve, when I've never shot up in my hand in my life.. when discharged they stopped all meds cold turkey (which is irresponsible and dangerous) especially with the sheer quantity let alone kind of drugs I was given.. during my stay there I was actually threatened by other patients, which was witnessed by staff and ignored. if you love your family member/significant other and treasure their mental wellbeing DO NOT send them here.. head my warning please... I can't possibly say enough.. I truly tried to get the most I could out of my stay there, tried to keep positive and say "it could be worse" but in reality we paid way too much for this kind of treatment to be so ineffective and outright terrible.. I'm scarred for life from just having been here..
