I admit that I was a minority and wearing a hooded jacket in a not the most diverse of towns so I ignored the employees stare and politely asked the clerk if there were any available spots in their range. He stuttered his words and told me to hold on while he went to go check. When he returned he told me there was no room but continued the conversation by stating that even if there was any room he wouldn't let me shoot because I had a strong odor of marijuana on me. I politely asked what he was referring to again because i was in shock. I told him I don't smoke that stuff and he was wrong. I told him to get a manager and he did. He told his manager that I smelled of marijuana and for him to smell me. His manager smelled me and said yes. I told them they were wrong and told them they could call a cop for a real opinion. They said no, so I proceeded to leave and turn around to take their picture to leave a review. While i was typing the review in my car the manager approached me and said they would call the cops for a professional opinion if I wanted and I replied yes. While i waited I heard him tell 2 customers at the counter I was a pot head. At this point I am very upset so I walked out and stood out front for about 10 more minutes until the cops arrived. When the cops arrived I gave them my name for them to run and my side of the story. They smelled me and said I didn't smell like marijuana and told the employees I didn't either. The manager then attempted to offer me a free session at their range through the cop and and politely told the officer I wouldn't accept that and they can keep it because I would never set foot in their store again. After I left I finished my review by telling my story and posted it to Google maps. Who I can only assume was the owner because he claimed to be, Josh, gave me a very textbook reply through email. After 3 weeks I still feel just as embarrassed and discriminated as I did that day. review shortened to fit
I have shopped at DCF in the past and always had a positive experience. Recently, I had a very poor customer experience at this store. I will not go into the details as they are not important in the end. What is important is the effort that the owner, Josh, made to rectify the situation. It is clear that Josh and his staff are committed to providing excellent customer service. It is one thing to keep customers happy when everything goes right but when a store is willing to spend the time and energy to overcome situations that go wrong, it shows how dedicated they really are to their customers. I look forward to being a customer for a long time thanks to Josh, Erin and the rest of the staff.
