It never ceases to amaze me that people will spend a hundred dollars a week on cigarettes and another hundred on sodas, but don't seem to want to pay for a tattoo. In the past 5 years I've heard more grumbling about tattoo pricing than any other thing, and honestly, it gets annoying. We are artists, and we have bills to pay too. We don't do this as a hobby, we do it as a lifelong career. We work sometimes 16 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week and sometimes more and barely pay the bills. You, the customer, come in and see a tattoo for $200 and you think its too expensive. We finish putting our heart and soul into it and we look at it with pride, but think it wasn't expensive enough. The artist only makes a percentage of that tattoo, and it might be half of the work he does that week. If he closes the week taking home $500 he feels like he has done well, but after calculating his hours and finding he has worked 70 hours for that $500, you find that he makes less than minimum wage. But you, the customer often complain about the price and if the artist doesn't come down you might well go to another studio that does worse work for a better price, or go to a scratcher running out of his home. I never wanted to be rude to anyone, I never wanted to be difficult, but when customers complain about the price, I find myself wanting to tell them that if they don't care about the quality of their work, I will gladly send them to an artist in another studio who is no good and will charge you what he is worth. Things have changed since I entered the tattoo world, and not really for the better. It used to be that people took pride in their tattoos. It expressed something for them and they would save up to pay what it was worth to get a piece of art that was uniquely THEM. They would not go to a second rate artist to get a better deal, they would hunt out the best work and pay what the work was worth. $50 tattoos have always been part of the tattoo world but it was until a few years ago, a small part of it. Now it seems to be overwhelming it with this idea that I can get the smallest tattoo possible for the cheapest price. Today it isn't about expression so much as fashion and no one wants to pay for fashion. Today just HAVING the tattoo is enough. The cheaper the better and if the quality is no good...well who cares, it was CHEAP! So what, you can cover it with a quarter! The title: Tattoo Collector used to be worn with pride, but today I was told, "I'm not a collector, I just like tattoos" Ahhh, how times have changed. I long for the days when people wanted works of art, and were willing to do whatever it took to get it, I long for the days when people hung out at the Tattoo Parlor and brought all their friends, I long for the day when getting your first tattoo was a rite of passage and not something to be rushed, but something to be planned and experienced. I long for the day when Tribal Tattoos were restricted to the Tribes that wore them. Ahhh, how times have changed. The truth is that they have changed, and the appreciation of the art is lacking, and that is simply the way it is.

Went to get a transmutation circle done on my right forearm and Matthew did it perfect! I went to three other tat shops and they all said there was no way that anyone there could do it like I wanted, but Matthew was undaunted and upbeat and did a beautiful piece of alchemy on me. I went back aga…

I went to TigerMoon last year, because I was finally gonna get my tongue pierced while me bff got her first tat. Let me tell u it was awesome. The guy pierced my tongue quickly eventhough I was a little afraid, he talked to me the entire time. It was quick and painless. When we were done I went back out into the shop to see my friend get her tattoo, she said a couple times it stung, which is expected when its on ur wrist, but she talked and laughed the whole time. when we were done, we waited like a week before she decided she wanted her tongue pierced too, so we went back. Again, quick and painless, super professional and friendly. We enjoyed the experience so much that when my boyfriend came home from Iraq a few months late, we took him to TigerMoon, and he got the most awesomest (yea i went there) tattoo on his inner forearm. His hurt a little more, but today he loves it, and wants another when this new tour overseas ends. My mom and I are going back for our tattoos. Pricing is great, and it's clean, professional, and plenty of artwork around to view. They even play movies while you wait.
This shoppe is stellar! I have ALOT of ink and have visited shoppes in several states. There's alot of elitist, snotty, uppity, better than you types in the business. This shoppe is so ABOVE that mentality! NO gradeschool cliquish attitudes here. Top that with the fact that the owner is an award winning artist that is primo at new school, vivid colors, and portraits as well as his staff having varying fields of specialties= good shoppe with a positive vibe. The cherry on top is that the whole crew is VERY on top of cleanliness and sterility almost to the point of OCD. Pricing is quite fair and is even better if you are going to be sitting for several hours. I've been happy with all my ink from Rich- owner . The only negative of this place is that it's 5mi further than his original shoppe- Last Angels on Greenville Ave which was 1.5mi from me. :-P
I am quite shocked with this tattoo studio. I initially went to this studio and had work done by the shop owner Dillon Trent. Although he is a very good artist, I cannot at all say the same about his customer service. I had one complete tattoo done and returned for another large geisha piece to be done on my back. I had 2 sessions completed with him and with an incomplete tattoo, I was stood up 2X by Dillon to get my work finished. No return phone calls at my numerous attempts to get a hold of him during that time. Driving back and forth to Dallas for nearly 3 hr. roundtrips all to get stood up with no return calls, etc. NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE! To this day, my geisha tattoo is still incomplete and I totally hesitate to return to Vitality as I don't want to have another appt. scheduled, make the 3 hour roundtrip, and be stood up yet again!!!!!!
I have been here for every tattoo and some piercings thus far. The people here are mellow, relaxed, laid-back people. So no, they won't jump up and meet you with a smile at the door- but they will tell you exactly what you need to know, do good and clean work, and get you done and out in a manner that is not tense or stressful or leaving you guessing. The shop is what it is, it's a tattoo parlor not a five star Hilton hotel. But it's the amazing artists who keep a mellow conversation, are confident and casual in tattooing and piercing, tolerant of inexperienced customers, that keep me coming back. I love this place, and I recommend it to everyone. But don't walk in expecting a bunch of uppity well-to-do men in suits tattooing you in a hospital-esque chrome and white store- it's a TATTOO PARLOR.
I would recommend Rob Smith at Gizmo's to anybody. I moved to Dallas a year ago and have been searching around for a new artist for some time. I'm very picky about my ink and who does it. I looked around at several shops and decided to walk in one day. Rob happily greeted me. I told him my ideas and what I wanted and where. He is a very personable person and he was thrilled to work on it. He drew a completely custom tattoo up for me and knocked it out with precision in under a week. I couldn't be more happy with it. He is very passionate about his work and you can sense a genuine love for your tattoo from him. He put his time into it like it was going on his own body. I will continue to go back and see from now on for my future ink.
Went here a few months ago to get my tongue pierced. I had done research on several different places and was referred to here by a friend of mine. I read the reviews and everyone had great things to say about it. I went and had Tim do my piercing and he was very cool about the whole thing. Everything there was steril and the place looked clean all around. The people were great and made me feel really comfortable. It was a quick process and he went over everything I needed to know about the cleaning and possible side effects of getting pierced. He also told me a few tricks to help with possible swelling. I plan on getting another tat plus another piercing, I will definitely be going back here to get my work done.
Went to get a transmutation circle done on my right forearm and Matthew did it perfect! I went to three other tat shops and they all said there was no way that anyone there could do it like I wanted, but Matthew was undaunted and upbeat and did a beautiful piece of alchemy on me. I went back again to get some sacred geometry done and Biggs did an amazing job on this newest addition! It is mesmerizing, a truly breathtaking piece of art and I get compliments on it everyday. My wife also has two tattoos from Taboo that are like walking symmetry done by Chelsi and I love looking at them everyday! It seems that no matter who does work on you at Taboo, you will always come away with a piece that you are spellbound by.
I had a great experience getting my first tattoo by the owner Scott Cooksey! He created a WWII aviation themed half sleeve for me that is truely a piece of art on my body. I have a one of a kind tattoo that everyone loves as soon as they see it. I highly recommend checking out Lone Star Tattoo before going anywhere else. Every artist in there is gifted at what they do. While sitting there for my sessions, I've seen a few of the others work. You can't go wrong with whoever you choose. Another thing that I was very impressed with was how clean this place is! They go the extra mile to make sure everything is sterile and safe. I will be going back for Scott to create my next masterpiece in the very near future!
