Cliff's Finance Company

When I moved to Dallas two months ago, I started cashing 1-3 checks at Cliff's Westmoreland location. Many were personal checks from my family, and most were 100.00 to 200.00 dollars. The cashiers ALWAYS charged me 1% on all of these checks. (Their sign shows different percentages, but it is up to the cashier's discretion.) I have every receipt I was ever issued to prove the 1% rate I was ALWAYS charged. When I went in at 3:30 p.m. on Monday Aug. 4th to cash a check from my father for $450.00 (with only minutes to spare to get my rent back to my landlord) the amount JUMPED to 3%. Go figure! Bigger check, so all of the sudden the cashier decides to go with the 3% instead of the 1% they had ALWAYS charged me on exactly the same personal checks frome exactly the same person. Then when I tried to file a complaint with the company the next day and request a refund, THEY WOULD NOT LET ME FILE A COMPLAINT! The way they treated me is not illegal, but it is certainly inconsistent business practices and very shady! The extra $9.00 this cost me is the difference in me getting to eat for 3 or 4 days when you are as poor as I am. I would have gladly gone somewhere else had I time to ride the bus and get back with my rent before 4:00 p.m., but I trusted that they would charge me what they always had. It was no coincidence that the rate TRIPLED the day I first brought in a check over 200.00. BE WARNED SO IT DOESN"T HAPPEN TO YOU! I will never do business with these people again!
