Absolutely HORRIBLE... I'm beginning to think my husband and I have been scammed...found a place, applied for it,paying both of out background checks. Asked for more info, sent it and NOTHING....almost a month ago. After reading these reviews I think I'm going to contact a lawyer. There should be negative stars.

Mace is by FAR the worst company Ive ever had the mispleasure of dealing with. It took them over three weeks to respond about or application to listen to one of the properties they manage. After jumping through countless hoops and paying multiple application fees totaling $150, they STILL didn't have the professionalism and common courtesy of responding to calls, texts, and emails. We contacted multiple people in the company and still no response. When we have gotten ahold of people, they were rude and blamed us for their unprofessionalism. What a way to treat prospective clients. Zero stars from me if I could. If you're considering a property with Mace, turn away now and keep looking.

Have been with Mace for a little over a year now. They have been the best I've worked with so far; they are structured quite well and Professional. The overall rating is really like 4.5 stars versus the 4 stars shown, I just didn't want to round up to 5, as that might imply perfection. I just bought a building this year and Mace was already in place. They helped with the transition and provided previous records of repairs. I deal with Deanna Taranto, the Assistant Property Manager. She communicates in a very timely manner, either by phone or email. I never had to call twice.

Follow their lead, they are experienced and know what they are doing.

Looking at the reviews, it seems that it is not so much the company as it is one individual. You have to understand the company manages their own properties as well as manages properties for other owners. My apartment is managed, but not owned by Mace. The owners of this property yelled at me (my heating unit was red-marked and no one knew that when I moved in (january) and when i called to say something, the OWNERS insisted it was my fault. The owners also insisted that my electric stove didnt work because I must have done something- turns out when they installed new electric box, they "forgot" to connect circuit breakers). The owners of my property are disgusting and as long as you deal/consume drugs all day long, they want your patronage. Mace did a nice job of evicting them after I called and complained (and was eventually assaulted by the neighbors for calling pd one too many times). MACE got them out. The owners didn't want to bother. Mace has responded well to my requests, the owners want to use their own repair people (read that as their non-certified brother in laws who work once every few sundays). Eventually Mace stepped in and told the owners they will do the repairs, not an option. Since then everything and anything has been addressed timely. So be aware, it is not usually Mace, it is usually the owners.

mace property management are crooks..... and nothing but crooks.. Jennifer Stewart is the property manager and she is very unprofessional, rude, and extremely disrespectful.... she needs to be FIRED!!!!!!. DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE.. she got a smart mouth for no reason and talk real tough because she knows shes over the phone. they take forever to fix anything you call them about and your lucky to get in touch with someone when you call.. and there all around unprofessional. I was a tenet with them for three years and they will renew your lease with out notice of any kind... This company does not respect the laws of their state, and they do not follow their own policy.. they just want your money... that's it.. they don't care about anything else...THERE CROOKS.........I WOULDN'T GIVE THEM A CORNER OF A STAR BUT I HAD TO, TO POST THIS REVIEW... I'M GLAD I DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEM ANYMORE... i wish i would of looked them up and read reviews before I moved in and prevented all the BS i had to go through... theirs a lot of people that says there crooks on review sites AND THERE RIGHT!!!!! From a property owner’s point of view:

MACE Property Management assumed the responsibility of managing multiple rental properties for us shortly over two years ago.

We had been utilizing another Management Company for several years prior to our introduction with the MACE team. We were impressed with the formality of the initial process and the professionalism that accompanied right from the start.

MACE kicked off our new partnership with a walk through of the properties and their initial assessment included general feedback, pictures, and a few professional pointers.

In the upcoming days, we would begin to receive email correspondence regarding routine preventative maintenance checkups to work request approvals on issues needing attention at the various properties.

Urgent matters were addressed via phone call, in addition to a follow up email. (Preventive maintenance reminders were nonexistent with our previous property mgmt. company).

Repair invoices & statement dates reflected Mace’s prompt attention to both tenant repair requests as well as the work requests we (owners) had placed with MACE. Many , many work requests associated with varying areas of expertise have subsequently been placed through Mace which have all been addressed promptly and completed timely. (Most notably at a reasonable cost).

Various building repairs, improvements, upgrades, cleanup, and grounds maintenance have been handled by MACE Property Mgmt on our behalf.

We have been so satisfied with the work results and associated costs, that we trust MACE to manage all of our building and grounds maintenance and repairs including who they choose to complete the work.

Jennifer Stewart, Asst Property Mgr at MACE, is the driving force behind the positive changes in our situation. She turned our rental woes into a positive cash flow in a relatively short period of time while managing to bring the units to code and in good repair.

Jennifer has been our primary property manager contact at Mace, and has handled the majority of our rental issues from clean ups to clean outs to repairs and to evictions and back to reoccupancy.

Jennifer Stewart was (& still is) our saving grace, whom we trust managing our properties and appreciate for all the effort and hard work that has been producing positive results for clients like ourselves.




I have dealt with Mace Properties before when I was looking for a home. I have dealt with Jennifer Stewart in particular and she was nothing but nice and professional to me. She helped me find the place that I am currently in. Unfortunately, my landlord does not work with Mace anymore, however, Jennifer continues to this day to be nothing but helpful, kind, generous and sweet to me and my family. I am currently trying to move and everytime I contact Jennifer to see if there is anything in my desired neighborhood, she lets me know, helps me try to get it if I am interested and goes above and beyond to help me. She genuinely wants to see me happy and I am upset that Mace is no longer the property manager for my home. I defintely hope to work with Mace and Jennifer again really soon!

Mace Property Management and its staff have managed several rental properties of mine for over 5 years. I find them to be a very professional, helpful, and considerate. If they do not have an immediate answer or are not available someone has always got back to me in a timely manner. I have depended on their service men for various repairs and issues that need taken care of at my various rentals. Not once did I ever have to request a return service call and the tenant was very satisfied with the service done and how considerate and professional the serfvice people are. Anyone seeking a management company I would highly recommend Mace Property management.

First and foremost, the property manager Jennifer Stewart is a horrible lady who is very unprofessional, rude, and extremely unfair. She needs to be FIRED! I contacted her a month ago, and she responded about a property a few days back; that it is how bad the communication with customers is. Her manner was very rude and ungracious when she finally did respond. After several days of badgering her, she finally scheduled an appointment, which I was looking forward to greatly. A few hours before the scheduled appointment, she canceled it, saying that she had a supposed meeting to attend. The next day I was to go on vacation, but that same day, Jennifer showed that property to another man who is now going to rent it. Learning that he did was very shocking and extremely unfair, and I told Jennifer this, but she refused to believe that she was at fault. The entire Mace Property Management is very disorganized and apparently doesn't want any business the way they treat their customers. I HIGHLY URGE everyone to NOT buy or rent with Mace Property Management!

I wouldn't even give Mace a corner of a star! When it comes to professionalism they have none. The secretary, Jennifer, just yells at you for everything and will not listen to reason. I have rented from them for 2yrs, I have fixed everything that has broken or needed repair myself, I have never complained about the crack-heads and drunks that live around me, never complained about the cockroaches and I have still payed my rent on time the entire time I have lived here. Now that I sent a notice to vacate they have a problem with me. I guess the only way to treat the one good tenant you have is by yelling and making threats. Unfortunately for them I know a lot of people and will be making sure that no one I even know of takes over this apartment, that I have made a very nice place out of my own pocket. However you can live here and rack up $3,000 in back rent before they even evict you so if you're a low-life looking for a free ride this is the place to get it.

Jennifer steward as wll as Mace is very organized crime/carnegish like. She has a general hatred toward tenents. She maintains that she is trying to address issues profesionally but insists the tenent is at fault. She is organized crime aggressive with tenents. Terrible Company!

I have leased apartments for the last 7 years across a few states. I've had some rough and frustrating experiences but nothing like this...

Jennifer Stewart is the Assistant Property Manager at Mace and was my contact. She is extremely unprofessional and seems to have a general hatred toward life every time I met or spoke with her.

She does not return any phone calls, and by a miracle chance she does call back and gets your voicemail, expect a rude message.

For those of you that have delt with her or have looked at properties with her, beware of the walk through prior to moving in and after exiting the property. She will try to rip you off at every angle claiming you were at fault for previously damaged property. Expect a nickle and dimed invoice and half your deposit, if any, at the end of your lease.

Also, beware of mice infestations in their properties. I personally killed 26 mice in the basement before they would send an exterminator to the property.

I'm not sure how this company stays in business or how their employees keep their jobs, but it's an absolute joke and nightmare dealing with them.

Find another place.. do not put yourself through the hassle..

Horrible Experience

Having to deal with this company is by far the worst experience I have ever had to be a part of.

Let me first state that I own a rental property and decided to rent for a year in moving to a new area until a decision was made where to buy. If this company was representing my rental property I would be completly ashamed.

It first started when we moved in, the house was a complete wreck, there were numerous boxes of previous tenant(s) stuff that I had to throw out, there was a broken toilet left in the garage, there was garbage and leaves all over the garage and basement.

Next started the issues with the house itself, the roof leaked twice, the basment drain pipe backed up, the screens were all torn, along with numerous other items.

Then there was the bug and rodent problem. We had mice in the house 4 different times in a year, and then there was the stink bugs, in the summer to fall I had to catch and dispose of 75+ inside the house every single day.

Whenever we would contact the company to have the issues addressed, 99% of the time they were rude and we were always told that someone would get in contact with us (i.e. the handyman). This is fine as they have 3rd parties do their work, however if I provide dates and times when I would be available for the repairs to take place, I don't need a response that ""Well I don't know their schedule so I'll have them call you""

We also had an issue where the ceiling was leaking heavily for the 2nd time which was after ""business hours"" we called the emergency line and after 3 tries finally got a hold of someone, who told us this is an emergency repair and we will have someone call you and come out tonight. Guess what happened, no one called and no one came out.

There is numerous other accounts of just awful customer service, but the kicker came after we moved out. We called 2 different times to ask where our security deposit and/or list of repairs was and were told that we would have it within 30 days of them taking over control of the property (in which by law they are required to provide these things). Day 31 came and no deposit returned or list of repairs.

When we called that day we were told that ""your check was sent out weeks ago and your file is closed"" at which point we told them we have not received anything and can now take you to court. At that point we were told by the woman on the phone that she was there by herself and our file was in another location so she would have to get it and give us a call back. The end of the day came and we received no phone call.

After leaving another message for them stating this we finally received a call from someone who said they were the owner, and what happened was that 2 people were working on closing out our file and one of them closed it and filed it away and the other never did their part.

When all said and done we did receive our security deposit in full back, but it was just an awful experience.

When a company doesn't even have to checks and balances to follow the law, something is majorly wrong there.

Do not rent from this company, it will be nothing but a headache.

Will Demand Money and Refuse to Give it Back

My sister submitted an application and got approved. They demanded a deposit to hold the apartment. She sent the money order on June 7, 2011. On June 14, 2011 she notified them that she would not be moving in. She never even had a lease agreement put before her. The name of the woman who is her contact is Jennifer Stewart.

The website and agreement stated ""If we feel at that point they are the right prospect we then will collect a security deposit in the form of a certified check or a money order and inform the tenant if they choose not to sign the lease before moving in then the deposit is non refundable.""

According to Pennsylvania Code 9.50 (c) They can charge you 1st and last months rent for a deposit once you sign an agreement to move in. Code 9.50.7 (1) states that they have to return any unused portion to you within 30 days from the date the landlord receives possession of the premises. She never moved in, has never been on the property and the landlord always had possession of the premises but they refuse to give back her deposit. They stated to her in an email that ""they would give her back her deposit once they find another tenant and the tenant moved in.""

This company has taken over $500 from a very young lady fresh out of college moving to a city on her own. They are a bunch of crooks.

This company does not respect the laws of their state, and they do not follow their own policy. I wouldn't even give a 1 star rating if it wasn't required to post this review.

Very slow in response, nobody answers phones

We've been trying to get a hold of someone thru email and phone the last few days and nobody is getting back to us. Clearly they aren't very concerned about customer service which makes me think that perhaps we don't want to rent from them anyway since they're probably in change of getting plummers etc. in. If we're having this much trouble getting a hold of them just to view place, just think of being one of their tenants! Might be a nightmere.
