Home at last!

Raised Prostantant yet never quite knowing what I was Protesting. Not yet ready for the rigidity of Rome, nor for the chaos that was to come. I wandered for several years in the wilderness of cocodoxy that surrounded me, trying to confuse mr even more.

I had aquired an interest in Russian and Ukrainian culture and history in my high school days and through that had been exposed, , however little to Orthodox piety and Spirituality. Being very naive, one Holy week, I decided I wanted to "observe" my first Orthodox service.

The moment I stepped through the, the whole tapestry of colors, glowing wing candles, Icons, insence, singing and chanting took me Ime into another world i had never seen or experienced before

Soon i aproached the preast and started studying the Faith and on Dec, 6, 1969 i was chrismated into the fellowship of the Faithfull

Not long after, i ran into an old friend at the mall and he said "Guess what? I have joined an Eastern religion." i looked at him and smiled saying "S havei!" "wow! He exclaimed! You've become a Budhist too?" ""no." I answered i joined another Easteern Religion or maybe i should say 'Faith' i am an Orthodox Christian." It took a ong pause for that to sink in protesting

I was protestant for many years and began to feel "there must be more" one visit to Holy Assumption is all I needed, I have found the fulfullment of my Christian faith and a family to be a part of. Orthodoxy encompasses your entire being. Having a spiritual father to consult with is such a wonderful experience. All the things I thought were "taboo" as a protestant are now part of what I love and embrace. Why do you take photos of your family and keep them near? You love them. That's what icons are, my family of the last 2000 years! Christianity should be mystical and beyond our reason. What good is faith if it all makes percect sense to our human finite mind. It is bigger than me and the church history is so rich. The iconography is beautiful, there is always something to learn, a new saint to get to know. I love the connection with Christians around the world in other cultures my world is so much bigger now. Glory to God now and ever and unto Ages of Ages , Amen!
