I have been a volunteer here for 2 years now and I have to say Dr. John Ober is very thorough and does amazing work. I couldn’t ask for a better vet to learn from. We were originally taking our pets to the Owego clinic and found that not only was the candor office much closer he also took more time to make sure you were comfortable with what would be done. He has saved my own cats life when he had a urinary tract infection. In the past year before we took him to candor he had had 3 infections and each time the Owego vet did the same thing but Dr. John treated him and ran other test to be sure there was no underlining cause. That was 2 years ago and he has not had any other problems since. His prices are much lower than other places and he isn’t afraid to tell you he is unable to perform a procedure, he will refer you to the best place he knows to help your animal. I have seen him do some remarkable things I will use him as a vet as long as I live in Candor and think that he is a very good vet to learn from. He may not have all the new shiny equipment but his equipment works very well and serves its exact purpose every time it’s used

My dog went in to get spayed and was almost killed. She was left bleeding internally. We brought he back because we knew something was wrong we were told that she was constipated after he felt her stomach. The hard ball he felt turned out to be a large blood clot that had formed. We took her to another vet they did emergency surgery and saved her life. I will never go back again as my dog is too important to me. In the end we have spent almost 2000.00 dollars because of his poor care.

I have been to John Ober's office twice on emergency visits. my cat for emergency surgery and my dog was hit tonight by a car.. turnout unknown as i wright this review i know my dog is in the best hands.. i would just simply like to say that i absolutely could not and would not expect better care for my animals.
lets get to the nitty gritty reality ...
some people are true healers when you meet john you will understand he is one of these gifted individuals.. secondly these people do not want excessive amounts of your money.. I can say with no doubt that John wants your animals healthy, he also wants to do this at a price that has seemed very low in my experiences emergency or checkup... There prices are beyond reasonable.. please give your sick or hurt animal a fairly priced second chance at candor animal care...

Self-defined ""old-fashioned country vets"" these people are wonderful and personable. They provided, fast, informative care for my Siberian Husky who needed emergency surgery on her knees at HALF the price of the vet in Lansing. I called at 9am on a Thursday morning and they took her in immediately, even allowing my parents to stop by and pick up a small stretcher for ease of transport. They took the time to explain to us what was going on and how it would be repaired. The vet called me at 8:00 that same night to let me know how it had gone and what to expect on her return home. I was able to pick up my dog the following afternoon, with DETAILED instructions on her recovery care.
These people are true animal lovers and clearly care about what happens to those brought to them. They also provide pet massage and chiropractic services! Who would have thunk it!?
My one complaint was that the place was a bit below par as far as LOOKING professional. It's located in a historic home in Downtown Candor that has been converted. I would have liked to have seen things with a bit more care taken for first impressions. It was clean and there was not odors, it just felt ""unfinished"" in its presentation. But, again... as they said, ""We're just old fashioned country vets""... and I'm okay fine with that. The care is what matters more than the appearance and the care was SUPERB.

Drs. Ober are wonderful! They listen to your problems and will use traditional as well as ""alternative"" treatment methods--whichever you are more included to--to treat any issues with your pets. Very progressive attitudes towards nutrition and holistic living with your pets. Instead of a standard response of ""feed your dog science diet and pop this pill"", they try to work more with whole-body treatment, trying to treat the cause of any issues, as opposed to the symptoms.
