For a nine hold golf course, this is a great layout. From the tips, expecially if the rough is high, it's challenge for any golfer, and from the front tees it'sgreat for the newer and intermediate golfers.
The green's keeper and his staff has done an excellent job with this course, fairways, tees and greens in excellent shape. When considering the number of rounds played, this is exceptional. In addition the City of Cambridge protects the course well. The course will not open in flood or frost conditions, to protect course conditions. Unlike a previous reviewer, I consider this a plus.
The friendly Golf Professional staff are well trained to fit and equip you with top of the line clubs, bags, golf-balls and clothing etc. from a very well stocked inventory from all of the bast names in golf. Prices are very competitive.
Bottom line: Check it out for yourself. Enjoy a round of golf at Fresh Pond. Visit the pro shop. Keep up with the group in front of you. Fix your divots and ball marks and enjoy this gem of a city course.

In response to the previous poster, based on the date of your post, as far as I know Fresh Pond was still being repaired/redone at that time and hadn't yet opened at all for the 2003 season.
Have some patience, go back and enjoy one of the few courses within a few miles of your house.

I have played this course many time in the past and enjoyed the course. There have been improvements to the course including new bunkers and tee boxes. The staff on the other hand is not improving. I was willing to pay the $22 (over priced in my eye) for a few holes in the rain. Nobody was on the course and I just wanted to get golf but was told it was closed.
The pros need to be a little more accomadating to their community. I will never go back!
