Brennan's Bowery Bar & RestaurantAdd to Favorites

We've been going to Brennan's for over 25 years, but our recent experience will keep us away for a long time. My husband, son and I were dining there on a Saturday night. The restaurant was quite full, and we were seated in a booth toward the back of the restaurant where the kitchen and waitress station are. When we were about halfway through our meal (which was only average), our waitress and began a loud argument with another waitress that lasted through the rest of our meal. They were oblivious to the fact that diners were turning to stare and sending them dirty looks. When a manager came to break it up, I assumed that he'd have the good sense to lead them back into the relative privacy of the kitchen. No such luck. He jumped into the fray, and we had to hear the whole thing re-hashed. Brennan's used to be a fun neighborhood pub with better than average food. But they've expanded and, in trying to accommodate far too many tables, have allowed their food and service to suffer. There are many better choices within a stone's throw.

I've been to Brenanan's a few times, and was never really impressed with the food. The wings are good in size, but in flavor they are truly lacking. If you can eat the hot wings here, then be warned to order the mild anywhere else you go, And what is up with pricing them by the pound anyway? I mean do I have to bring a scale with me to weigh the order when it gets to my table?
Brennan's serves the same bar food as almost every other bar in the Buffalo area does, and they don't really do it any better than anyone else does. There are some places where you get a lot more for your money, but not in Clarence.
Finally why do they have a patio that is facing an extremely busy parking lot? How refreshing is it to sit outside while cars are circling the lot looking for a parking place. I never thought that the smell of exhaust was a real appetizing touch.
Oh, and if you are thinking that it is an Irish pub, then you'll be disappointed to say that least. Just because the name is Irish and they have Guiness and Harp does not make it an Irish pub. In a true Irish Pub you get a free punch in the mouth whenever you order a ""Black and Tan."" And the people next to you will gladly talk to you when you sit down and even resist the temptation to call you a fool, even if you are one.
I had a terrible time at this store just trying to buy some fish and supplies. The staff eyeballed me, but never offered any help. I brought it to the attention of the store manager who didn't seam to give a hoot. Then after chasing down a staff member to catch some fish, I was charged $1 more per fish than the price posted. I told the cashier. I was told "That's the price in the computer" and continued to ring up my transaction. It's probably my last trip there due to an earlier visit as well. During that earlier visit, I went in to buy fish food and was on the phone with my husband to make sure I got the right kind, one of the male employees said to another employee "watch her". I've never stolen anything in my life and I am an adult over 40, who doesn't wear anything that would make me look like a criminal. I guess maybe they saw that I was about to ask for help as soon as I got off the phone. Ironically, I think it was an attempt to dissuade me from asking for help. I will let the company know about this slap in the face. I'm pretty sure we have an item pricing law in this state or county. I found the store manager after a 20 minute search since the employees wouldn't help me and was informed that the price in the computer was the right price again! So, where does that leave me? My husband went in the next day and that manager wasn't on duty yet, it was after 1 o'clock by then, but he was told she should have been there by now. It seams a shame that the item pricing law can be violated without the stores boss being concerned. I used my Petco pals card which has all my info on it and nobody ever called, it makes me sick, goodbye Petco.
We are a restaurant, not a pet store.

I picked up the 2009 Best of Buffalo resturant reviews and found it ASTONISHING to find this in there! This is one brewery I will never visit again. I grew up on Irish food, love it...and they do it a great injustice.
We sat on the patio, the ""furnature"" left a lot to be desired. The ambiance was horrible. The food was cold, which really should have been helped considering they were dead that night....also it took FOREVER between courses! Dessert took over 30 minutes.
The ""buffalo burger"" I believe it was was bland and whole combination of igredients was poor. The dish I had was also bad. I would never go back there.

This place has the potential to have a great atmosphere...instead it is just a good atmosphere. It is very dark inside, hiding some of the warn out motif from 1990! Also, the food is bland and taste like they opened it from a Sysco Can! Overall this place is average. Best bet if you want to eat, or see what your doing, is to go to Tully's across the street.

Brennan's is a great place . They have an awesome outdoor patio to take full advantage of the short summers here in Buffalo. I've never been disappointed with a meal. Because it's always busy, you can expect a little slower service but the staff is always friendly. After dinner, the bar is a BLAST! The crowd is a very eclectic mix of young and young at heart. The all wood bar is a comfortable place to cop a squat with a brewsky and listen to the great bands they venue. When the bartenders aren't busting thier butts to keep up with demand, they are very outgoing and chatty. Looking for someplace casual to have a great meal, a few drinks, and just hang out? You've found it at Brennan's.

I do like Brennan's but it should not be listed as the cheapest - I would have to say average prices as most restaurants. I used to think that they had large portions but the last time I visited (3 days ago) my normal order is the salmon cesar salad and the piece of salmon they gave this time around was 1/2 the size it normally is. Also their side of fries are a bit pricey but good and that portion size went down too but the price didn't. That was very disappointing.
The service here has always been slow, they draw a huge local crowd - as it is a favorite bar and restaurant hang out - so if you plan on visiting plan on staying you will be here a bit so relax with appetizers and a drink perhaps. I wish they would hire more staff to handle the crowds so when you have children they do not have to wait too long to eat.
The day we went they also had a magician for the kids that was very cool!

I was born and raised in Buffalo. In those 18 years, I can't say there is another restaurant that comes to mind as a favorite other than Brennan's. Perhaps you have to be from Buffalo to get it, but this is a great place. The wings are authentic, so if you're looking for something that is breaded and too hot to taste, then you're out of luck. Buffalo wings are fried and tossed in Frank's. And the service is always friendly, but if it's packed (which it usually is) you may have to wait. The bar crowd is always fun and always ready to cheer on our Bills or Sabres to victory or (more often times than not) defeat. If you want a taste of Buffalo and some amazing food, Brennan's is the place to go.

We came for wings as recommended by a native buffalonian. The suicide wings and the mild wings were identical-very mild, and very dry. The celery and carrots were old, some were rotten. One of us had a portabello wrap. It had next to no portabellos-it was a basic rice wrap and very poor. The service was horrible, we had to ask the waitress to take our order. I would not go there again and strongly recommend against it.

Great meals. They have a huge menu, of which I've never had the same thing twice and the food never fails to satisfy completely. That's hard to do because I'm the worst person to be in a restaurant with if I don't like the food. I've recommended it to everyone. Big corner bar type atmosphere, great service the only crowded spot is the bar, it's the only place you can smoke inside. Prices are damn good for both the quality and size of portions. Tell them to bring back the crabcakes, best I've had outside of Maryland or Virginia. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED !
