        Villa Nueva Elementary is a community school that provides academic instruction and enrichment programs to more than 400 students in pre-kindergarten through grade five. The school has a library that offers access to a variety of books and reference materials. It provides instruction in physical education and fine arts. Villa Nueva Elementary also offers an early education program. The school provides guidance counseling, food and health care services. It operates chess and garden clubs. The school offers special education programs for students with learning disabilities. In addition, it manages a parent-teacher association. The school provides Reading First, which is a state-funded program. Villa Nueva Elementary is a part of the Brownsville Independent School District.

        Overall

        Folks, this is a culture shock!! This is not the US but an extension of Mexico. Even though the staff and teachers are attentive, the education side leaves a lot to be desired. Because of the "no child left behind", the brighter students are being held back. They are taught minimum work in order to pass the TASK test. Timely communication with parents is non-existent. Their bus service is also unreliable. Do not depend on the bus being on time for pick-up or drop-off. Something else, they go to school of federal holidays (MLK & President day) but they get the day off for "charro day" and good Friday. My child WILL NOT be returning next year!
