Our limestone backyard was dug up by construction next door. Joseph and his guys from Woodland Landscapes brought in massive amounts of dirt and stone, and even negotiated with neighbors so that they could come in through the back rather than through our house. They built a beautiful stacked dry stone retaining wall (Joseph's speciality) and laid a nice flagstone patio. They were concerned with the integrity of the job, with water drainage and safety. They gave me their experienced opinion but were really open minded: when I insisted that a yew should go right in the smack of everything they said okay even though that was unconventional and they didn't necessarily agree that it was a good idea, and when I asked that the flagstones be really far apart they made it happen. The guys were friendly and hard working. They were really flexible and gave me high- and low-estimates and plans to look at, and they also rolled with it when I changed parts of the plan mid-way. I love plants and wanted to do a lot of the greenscaping myself so that I could chat with the plants as they went into the ground, but the plants that I okay'd from Woodland Landscapes (a fern, the yew, a little mounding juniper, some sweet woodruff) are all doing really well, their second summer in. My only complaint is that they didn't understand why I wanted irrigation (because I'm lazy!). But otherwise, Joseph and his crew were great!
I used Woodland Landscapes for the front of my house in Clinton Corners, NY. They are a wonderful company. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and I now have gorgeous azaleas and rhododendrons blooming in front of my house and 100 pink tulips running along my fence. They also do New England dry stack stone walls which I am considering for next year.
