Provided by CitysearchMy mom bought a red velvet cake for my birthday from Lord's Bakery. Prior to trying their cake, I had tasted red velvet from other bakeries and it just wasn't right, but the red velvet cake from Lord's is the best red velvet cake I have ever tasted in my life. It's just so moist. It's not overly sweet and over the top. It's just right. I've tried others since then, and I'm always disappointed. Lord's set the bar when it comes to red velvet cakes.
I plan to buy a cake this Christmas when I get together with the family.

Provided by CitysearchWe needed a cake to help celebrate the 1 year anniversary of DanceFever Studios in Brooklyn. Lords is right in the neighborhood(we're at 3009 Ave J, 2 blocks from the bakery) so we ordered a photo cake with the DanceFever logo on top. It came out beautiful and the cake was delicious!

Provided by CitysearchSo, here's a somewhat funny story. I went to Phyl's Academy back in the day, and lived aroung 37th street and foster. So Lord's is in my old neighborhood. Everytime e had parties in school, the cake came from Lord's. Anyway, my B-day is coming up in two weeks and I am having a lounge party with about 35+people . I need to have a large and good tasting cake. Ever since I was born, everyone in my house has had a cake from Lord's for EVERY single birthday,Valentine's and Mother's/Father's day occassion. My mother even goes there on Sunday's to get bread and little pastries for the week. I wanted to try something different. It's about to be 23 years of Lord's in my mouth. So. I asked one of my friends where did she get the cake she served at her Lounge party. Response: Lord's. Ok... (Mind you, she lives deep in Canrsie now like I do). I asked my other friend, a guy,""Where did you get your cake with the pic on it?"" . Response:Lord's ..Where else? . Found out that like me, they have been going to Lord's since birth. Anyway, I was going to go to Alan's Bakery, but I'm sure people are familiar with the attitudes in there from the rude Trini woman that I damn sure do not feel like putting up with at all.. So , since the red Velvet cake was so scrumptious as the last poster described, I will stay loyal and get a red Velvet cake this time. A different cake for the first time in 23 years. Red Velvet is good, so I'm sure they will make it right. As for the neighborhood, it is like any other neighborhood in Brooklyn, but not as bad as East New ork after sunset. There I would not go.
Update- I bought the cake and it was EXCELLENT!! I got a half sheet for $96 which serves 50+. I only had two slices left over after the party. My brother inhaled the one that I put in the fridge, and so I had to scrape up what was left in the box. The next day, my friends were calling me , asking me if I had any left over, but it was a done deal. Their Red Velvet is on POINT!!

Provided by CitysearchI agree that Lord's Bakery is the best! I've been buying my kids birthday cakes from there since their first birthdays (they are 17 and 9 now). I also disagree with what was said about the neighborhood. I don't live too far from there and the neighborhood is like any other neighborhood.

Provided by CitysearchI bought my daughter's sweet sixteen b'day cake (red velvet) from lord's, it was delicious. My daughter is not a cake lover but she could not stop eating this cake, infact it was as though we were addicted; no-one could walk past it without taking a piece. We even squabbled over who would get the last piece. it was finger licking, belly rubbing, tall glass of milk to go with it goooood. Oh and I completely disagree with the previous review about the neighborhood I live there too and its not even like that.

Provided by CitysearchFor my 16th birthday a couple of yrs ago my mom and dad got me one of the most beautiful looking birthday cakes I've ever seen from Lord's. It was pink with huge swans all over it. The three of us ate it for about 2 weeks straight, there was so much there.
We bought a cheesecake last week for my mom's birthday and that was excellent too. The 40somethings that surround me say ""Lord's isn't what it used to be when I was a kid, bla bla bla"" but I think it's pretty damn good. Prices are decent too! Just a word of caution: I live 3 blocks away so I know this firsthand -- don't go into that neighborhood after sunset if you want to leave with your wallet and belongings intact.
