Have been a student since 2009 and can say unequivocally the environment is the idea place to learn . The instructors hold the safety and harmony between students as the utmost priority . The concepts and techniques taught are cutting edge and as a senior student , interaction and support of junior students is ingrained in the culture . For a person who is looking for vigorous exercise and the discipline focus and self confident the martial arts instills this is the place for you .

I started training in January 2012 as a New Year’s resolution to myself to get in better shape, but I had no idea that I’d end up making so many new friends and gaining a whole bunch of self-confidence.

However, if I had to pick one lesson I learned from BBJJ that was most important to me, I would say that it would be learning how to get up.

From a physical standpoint, learning how to get up from the ground in the right way has helped me develop & strengthen my leg muscles, a muscle area that I’ve neglected most of my life. All the squats we do in class has helped me walk a little faster and take the stairs instead of the elevator. The little things!

From a mental standpoint, learning how to dig deeper to get to 50 pushups from 30, or to have the confidence to step on the mat from the beginning has been crucial to my life as a whole.

Of course, I feel like something this fundamentally positive can’t and shouldn’t stay a secret. I’ve told almost all my friends about my training, and I’ve even brought a few in a few to join us. I truly believe that Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the safest way to hard training…and much more than that. A++++++

There are just so many reasons why I recommend Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. For the way the teach the art itself - I mean Jiu-Jitsu is in my opinion the best form of self defense that there is. In addition to the self-defense aspect of it, it has been the hardest form of cardio I have ever done in my life.

I have played sports since I was a little kid I started working out when I was 15 played high school and some college football and nothing has compared to the workout I get from coming to BBJJ.

You can see yourself improving from class to class with the help of the other students and teachers in the class. Situations that you get yourself in were you panicked and tried to muscle your way out of no longer bother you and you get out of them with controlled smart movements.

A+++

I am SO GLAD my friend invited me to join Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Not only am I learning great self-defense skills, but I am also getting back into good physical shape.

The discipline that comes along with learning a martial art has inspired me in my personal life as well. I find that people are treating me better because my entire attitude has changed for the positive.

I have also resolved to quit smoking cigarettes! I have cut down from a pack a day habit to a half pack a day, and in the near future I plan to stop smoking entirely. I even bought a new bicycle so I can get extra exercise on days I am unable to come to class.

I find that all the instructors at Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are extremely knowledgeable and are very helpful to me and the other students in helping us achieve our goals and be the best we can be.

I urge everyone who always wanted to learn a martial art to come and give it a try. If you are serious about bettering your life, this is a great place to begin.

EXCELLENT...THIS PLACE IS THE BEST!

Growing up, I had never joined any athletic teams or been encouraged to explore my physicality and test my strengths. As a 24 year-old adult, the bright and clean dojo on Bay Parkway caught my eye and piqued my interests. It seemed like a safe and fun environment to develop a part of myself that I have neglected for so long. It was intimidating at first; having people I didn’t know be so close to me; not knowing exactly what I was doing; and not being able to keep up at first during the warm-ups. After the first few weeks, I realized no one was judging me for not executing all the moves professor demonstrated perfectly, because everyone on the mat was once a beginner as well. In fact, my training partners and senior members were patient and more than willing to help.

Physically, I have seen all the changes that I set to see and more. I went from being able to do only a few modified push-ups to being able to do regular push-ups with no problem. While I have always been on the slim side, I now have muscle definition throughout my body. I know people who have lost weight from training, but I have put on good weight from the muscle I am gaining. My strength has increased dramatically, as my training partners can attest.

The biggest change I’ve seen in my life from training, aside from the physical aspect, is my view of myself and new situations. I remember how scared and insecure I was when I started doing live training in the advanced class. I eventually decided that my success in executing techniques during live training depended mostly on my belief in my own ability. Since then, I have made strides in applying techniques during live training, and I now approach every new situation in life with the same attitude: calm confidence. For example, I started a new job recently and whenever I get overwhelmed with my new responsibilities, I just remind myself of the lesson I learned when I transitioned from the basic to the advanced class.

I would recommend Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to anyone looking to develop self-discipline, gain self-confidence, strength, and who just needs a good work out while learning and having fun. One of the unexpected benefits I’ve found is the immense support I’ve received from my instructors and training partners both on and off the mat. They’ve helped me through working around a prior knee injury as well as supported a charity event I am participating in. The kindness and patience of everyone at the school are so conducive to success in Jiu-Jitsu, and this carries over into everyday life.

I have had a great time here and I've never had any problems with being pressured into anything or signing anything. Lots of the reviews around this site are five or six years old...but I can say that it's been nothing short of amazing since I started!

I do both Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing at Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and I have experienced significant differences in myself. BBJJ Thai Kickboxing is a study in balance, conditioning and perseverance.

Often I'll complete Jiu-Jitsu training and then go right into the Thai Kickboxing class - physically, this is a huge challenge for me.

The instructors and professors are always saying to become comfortable in uncomfortable situations.

Training here has taught me that eventually, regardless of failure, if you collect enough small victories, there will always be success in your life.

DO NOT GO HERE. Save your mone...

DO NOT GO HERE. Save your money and attend a reputable school which allows a month to month pay as you go plan. This school sends your money to a collection agency, which will not allow you to cancel your contract even for valid stipulations outlined in the contract itself. Save yourself the headache and don't involve yourselves with these salesmen and women whose only concern is lining their wallet with your hard earned money. It's a shame they involve children in this SCAM. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!
