I must admit that their cakes are pricy, but I really like them, especially the Green Tea Mille Crêpes, Strawberry Shortcake, and Couronne du Chocolat. We drive all the way from Glendale a lot just for their cakes. One day I just told my husband I felt like eating Lady M and what's waiting for me at home after work was a box of all the 11 flavors that were available on that day. He bought 12 pieces because he wanted to make a whole cake for me (so sweet!). Lady M offered one on the house because he bought a lot. It was a 2.5 hour drive including traffic and he doesn't eat cake at all. I felt so spoiled! One of the reviews mentioned $10 for the to-go box but we were never charged anything for the box.
I wouldn't go to Gelson's for weekly shopping. It's just too expensive, and you can get pretty close to the quality at a good Ralph's or Pavillions. But when you are having a special dinner, or you are looking for a particularly hard to find vegetable, this Gelson's on Ventura is a sure bet. Their salad bar is genius, their prepared deli food is SO good. The fish, produce and meet are outstanding, they have a good selection of flowers, and an excellent bakery. All the aisles are fully stocked and all labels are facing outwards, which for me is something I definitely noticeable. Great store all around, I just wish prices were cheaper.
I've been going to Happy bakery for 3 years now sing my little one has been born and I have never been disappointed everyone who's gone to my parties always ask where I get my cake from. There cakes are supper moist and delicious especially the tres leches cake. Although all flavors are delicious. I recently ordered a cake with them and there printer went out so they called me I told them I needed something and they drew exactly what they couldn't print out onto the cake in a hour. They never disappoint me. Best bakery in town!
Ruby Bakery is my preferred bakery. It's where I order a cake every 1st Sunday of the month to honor birthdays of people in my congregation. It's also where I get sugar-free cookies for my friends who are diabetic. We all love their strawberry cream cakes, sure. And I buy quite a few of their chocolate cakes with chocolate mousse filling, chocolate frosting, and chocolate sprinkles. Oh, yeah!! Why? Because their cakes are great! And owners Amy, Brian, Eliott and the whole family are wonderful people. Try them!
Where do I start? I LOVE their cookies. I can just hide with a box of rugallahs and chocolate dipped lace florentines and come our only after they are all gone. I am convinced they add crack to their Napoleons. I love Vitor Benes' Napoleon but I have to give it to Beverlywood bakery on this one. Something about the custard and flakiness of the cake layers that make it amazing. No wonder this bakery has been in business for over 70 years.
We like their buffet on weekends and affordable combo meals . If you are craving for Filipino dishes, you have to try their all you can eat menu. Cakes and native desserts are available as well. Coffee is always free. You can get their famous ensaymada and mamon at their bakery in the same location. Since you are already there, you might as well get their VIP rewards card which earns points every time you purchase from them.
Cool spot. Large communal tables and good ole street parking. So now down to the food.Ok so I had the brioche french toast, in the beginning it was tasty but I then started to taste something similar to a lunch item, which leads me to believe they cook breakfast and lunch on he same griddle. I'm not saying it wasn't yummy just I don't want my breakfast to taste like lunch unless I order it that way. The latte was yummy.
Celaya's (I've only recently learned their name after years of visiting the place) can make a bad day way better. Their treats include jelly rolls, empanadas, huge cheese danish, sweet breads, Mexican candy plus bread rolls and FABULOUS tamales, either hot from the steamer or frozen to take home to your fridge. This place simply has something to perk up everyone's spirits and still leave change in everybody's pockets.
You can smell the sugar as soon as you walk in the door, LOL! The cupcakes are what they're known for, but I like to buy my cakes here for special occasions. After doing some comparison shopping at other boutique bakeries around town, I've found you can get a nice sized cake for a pretty decent price. The red velvet is probably my favorite. I always grab a banana pudding for later :)
