I had read a lot of negative reviews for BPM before we rented, but we really liked the unit so we decided to rent anyway and tread carefully to make sure we don't get screwed. Yes, BPM caters to students, so a lot of the properties aren't well-maintained. What do you expect, when frat-boys light couches on fire in their lawns? BPM is just trying to cover their asses, because renting to students IS a liability. Needless to say, if you act like an adult and treat them with professionalism and respect, I've got no reason to believe they wouldn't reciprocate. So, on to the review.. The pros: Maintenance responds quickly, monthly statements are mailed out itemizing charges and they include a newsletter - a really nice touch, and BPM was accommodating to our move-in requests. The cons: Coin laundry ($1 per load, when we already have to pay the water and electric to run the machines), shared utils are expensive (especially water), people leave their dog poop in the landscaping outside the apartment complex, and our apartment was barely cleaned before we moved in (besides the obvious vacuuming) - there was all sorts of crap in the heaters (cough drop, bottle cap, lots of hair and dust bunnies), walls were dirty, and under/behind the stove was disgusting (all sorts of filth including mouse poop!). This really pissed me off, because I scrubbed the hell out of my old apartment before I moved out, only to have to move in and do it over. I have to wonder if the old tenants were charged for cleaning... Also, a few months after moving in, our cat caught a mouse, which freaked us out, but BPM dealt with it immediately. Overall, our apartment is pretty nice. The location is great, and the rent and utils are expensive in my opinion, but for Boulder we actually got a pretty good deal. We've only been renting a few months, but we haven't had any serious complaints yet. Now let's just see how much of our security deposit we get back...

I rented a studio apartment at the Colorado Place Apartments near CU through Boulder Property Management for the two years I was in graduate school. I enjoyed the apartment very much as it was a nice space for myself and it was very close to campus which was perfect for me. The rent was a little pricey but it is Boulder we're talking about. The rent included utilities which was nice from a budgeting stand point but as someone who tries to be eco-friendly and conserve resources I wonder if I wasn't paying for the excess of my neighbors. I never had any need to contact BPM during my stay at the apartment since everything was well taken care of. The washers and driers on the property weren't the greatest and had some issues so I usually went to a laundry mat unless I was in dire need of cleaning something. My only complaint was at move out and the amount of money that was withheld from my security deposit. I lived in the unit for 2 years and I maintained it as best I could so I was surprised to see the amount of money they decided to withhold. I contacted them by email about the issues that I had with the amount they withheld. I did receive a quick response and about half of the contested charges back because they stated that the unit was not in perfect condition. I got the money back that I did because they said that I was a great tenant. I am fairly satisfied with how this was resolved and very impressed with the response time. I would consider checking out other BPM properties in the future if I need a new place to stay in Boulder (we'll see how the job hunt goes) and I would recommend it to others if you are on top of taking care of the unit and pay a lot of attention to cleaning when you move out.
Anyone with a pet KNOWS how hard it is to find ANYWHERE that will rent to you. Especially if your dog isn’t a tiny, small, purse dog that yaps all the time. I happen to have a medium sized dog (40 lbs) and even though he’s well behaved, finding somewhere to live with him is next to impossible. Thank goodness Fowler tapped into this underutilized demographic and accepts pets. It’s a shame more property management companies don’t approach this issue like Fowler. They make sure you understand the terms and conditions of having a pet in their property and the conditions are not unreasonable. After all, they want to make sure their property is well kept. Thanks Fowler for giving me and Hunter a place to call home.
Boulder Property Management is a great Management company here in Boulder. They are very professional. When a problem arises maintenance shows up in a timely manner. When you call with questions everyone is extremely friendly and very accommodating. However, they are much more businesslike around January and February when everyone is looking for housing for the next year. They are firm, but within good reason. Overall I have had a very positive experience with BPMCO. They have a very large selection of properties to choose from so their website is a great place to start when looking for housing in Boulder.
My partner and I are owners of a large amount of student housing properties. Four Star has reliably kept watch over them and making sure things run smoothly and we get paid monthly. We trust them to handle regular maintenance, and larger repairs are always run by us first with several bids every time. We don't have to deal with the tenants either. Their book keeping methods are also very easy to understand and follow. Thanks to Four Star, these properties are the the strongest investments we have in our portfolio.
We were tenants for two years in a home in Boulder serviced by Fowler Property Management. Our PM was always great to work with, always responding to our needs if anything arose. He promptly helped with any service issues we encountered. The handyman they use is also really knowledgeable and very easy going about scheduling to our needs. If you're looking for a great property management team for your rental property or if you're looking to rent – contact Fowler!
My daughter has lived at a four star property for the last year in Boulder, it has been a wonderful, safe, clean place for her to further her education and career. Four Star and Scott were always prompt in attending to repairs, helped with any noise or nearby construction concerns and returned phone calls quite promptly when we had any questions. We would rent from them again if there were properties available, but they go very quickly. THANK YOU!
I'm renting with Boulder property management this year and although are apartment is nice and close to campus, we have had a few problems. It took them along time to come and fix our locks that were broken when we first moved in and now are trying to charge us for it! It also seems to be quite expensive compared to other management companies I have heard about. Nothing is included in your rent, you have to pay for all other bills separately.
Four Star has a great maintenance department. They manage a property for me and I wanted to remodel it, and they were such a huge help throughout the entire process. They helped me choose the best option out of three bids, and kept an eye on the workers to make sure we got exactly what we were paying for. The house looks amazing and the improvements allowed us to increase the rent!
I have been renting though this company for about 4 months and have had no problems so far. The apartment is great and was a great deal. They clearly keep up maintenance and I have no complaints. As far as a comparison between other companies in the area, I have had much worse experiences, but have probably not had any much better experiences. A great company to use overall.
