The training is geared for practical self defense. And if you also want to understand the asian martial arts and traditions, you will find it at this dojo also. Its a great blend of both. But the dojo doesn't get hung up on one martial arts style. The basis is Okinawan Karate but as you advance many aspects of Chinese Martial Arts are blended in. The students and teachers are friendly and are there to help the students learn and train in a safe environment. It can get tough and you will sweat and be challenged for sure. A great place for beginners as the instruction is geared specifically to understand the basics and techniques from the bottom up. No tournament fighting here. There are free classes for all beginning students.
This dojo is a place I've trained in for almost 20 years and I've trained at different martial arts studios all over the world.
This really is a first class school! You work your butt off but everyone is friendly and respectful to one another. Plus you learn effective self defense techniques from day one.
It's a place you can push yourself and still feel safe. The teacher, Melanie Murphy, is so experienced and talented. You dont feel coddled but she never puts you down. I'll keep coming back for sure. - Mike F.
I did not know how good I had it at Way of The Crane until I had to leave the state for my career. I studied here for 7+ years and left as an advanced rank. As I have been looking for a new Dojo to study at, I recognize that the quality of instruction and curriculum in unparalleled. As I try out the martial arts classes to find a new school, from Akido, Judo, MMA, Boxing and Karate, the skills and discipline I obtained here are recognized by the instructors of these schools. If you have found this gem then you have the opportunity to study at in my opinion the best Dojo in Colorado and one of the best in the country. If you are serious about truly learning the martial arts then this is the best place to be.
When I do return to Colorado, I will be returning to Way of The Crane.
