Provided by CitysearchI take friends to Mountain Sun when they come to Boulder because it epitomizes this town's hippie vibe. The food is delish and there are lots of veggie and vegan options on the menu. The home-brewed beer is also a huge hit - try the Blackberry Wheat beer! If I'm not with friends or a group of out-of-towners, However, i don't come here to grab a quick bite. It's always REALLY loud in here and it can be overpowering if you're looking for a relaxing dining experience. Good for crowds and family dining, not so good for a one-on-one chat- don't take a date here!
I do enjoy the food, but the service is horrible.

Provided by CitysearchThese guys are known as the Beer Nazi's of Boulder. They are the biggest bunch of a-holes you will ever meet. They do have really good beer, but the food is only so-so, and the service is HORRIBLE. I have nothing against smoking grass, but when your waiter is so stoned that he forgets your order, half the time, you learn to avoid this place. STAY AWAY!

Provided by CitysearchI took my grandparents her for lunch and they loved it. I ordered a turkey sandwhich which was great...good bread. I love the ambiance, its relaxed and a little eclectic, but not too weird for the grandparents. Everyone was friendly and everyone I was with loved their food.

Provided by CitysearchMy wife works in Boulder and every so often I drive to Boulder from Denver to meet her for lunch which restricts our time frame. We came across Mountain Sun and were excited about the ""Express Lunch Menu"", which promises food in 10 minutes. We decided on our food and placed our order after having to inform our server the price and determining for ourselves what was all included on the plate. After twenty minutes we noticed that new tables had been served their food, so I asked a employee if they could check on our food, he did and came back to tell us that it was taking awhile because we had substituted French fries for chips on our orders (Which is an option on the menu). So he left again and after fifteen to twenty more minutes our food had not arrived and our original server avoided all eye contact and communication with us. Eventually I walked over to the server to let him know that we needed to leave and again I was given the French fry excuse. So we left with out having a manager speak to us and I dropped my wife off and left for Denver. I have worked in restaurants before and I know it doesn't take 40 minutes to make French fries.
I guess what I was most upset with was the way the staff insulted our intelligence with the excuses and fumbled to find an answer to our questions. And to my understanding the tipping policy for the servers is that all tips are pooled together by the staff, which makes me feel that many workers would take an apathetic approach to their job. I would like to think that a motivated staff of 8 or so would notice a couple sitting for such a long time with the a copy of the order ticket sitting on the edge of the table.
I see the Mountain Sun receives other great reviews, but don't expect me to waste my time when I come back to Boulder and for that matter I will not be visiting their new restaurant which is located in Denver, in my neighborhood next my favorite bar, the Thin Man.

Provided by CitysearchThe Sun was the first place I visited upon moving to Boulder. Reminiscent of a pub you might find on Haight & Ashbury, the sun grooves to its own vibe. The beer is some of the best in Boulder and the food is excellent and inexpensive. The service is quick and friendly and the crowd is ecclectic. It is even kid friendly with books to read and games for them to play. Everyone is welcome and will enjoy the Sun. Their are 2 Suns, one is in Boulder on Pearl St. and the other is in South Boulder off of Broadway. The only problem with either establishment is that they do not take credit/debit cards of any type. So bring cash or you will have to use the ATM in the back and pay the ATM's $2.00 tax.

Provided by Citysearchunassuming place - the eclectic in me liked the hippie focused original art and textiles. server was nice. mouthwatering cup of chilli with homemade blue torila chips for $2 filled me up - then had the half sandwich (turkey pesto rocks) and spinach salad. the kind brew is really good - so is the rasberry wheat. for 13.00 - i had more food than i could eat and two of the best brews i've had in boulder. go there. it is worth your time - and probably worth twice as much money as it costs

Provided by CitysearchI have to say, my favorite microbrew around. Their Colorado Kind is fantastic. A wonderfully hoppy American Pale Ale with great hop aroma. Their Java Porter, just incredible. To be honest, I have sample almost all of their beers and have not found a single beer that does not qualify as top in it's class. I recommend trying whatever they have on the Nitro tap that month. It gives the beer a better mouth feel and really is a great way to carbonate beer.

Provided by CitysearchDon't let the overly-stereostped editorial review deter you. This place is for all kinds of people. The food is creative and the beer is wonderful. The service is somewhat layed back -a good thing. They let you enjoy your meal without being pretentious.

Provided by CitysearchMountain Sun is the perfect place to go with some friends to have some great brew. They have the best beer. The food is pretty good too. You'll usually have to wait awhile for a seat, but i believe they just opened up a new restaurant called Southern Sun down on Table Mesa.

Provided by CitysearchMountain Sun has been my favorite restaurant since I moved to Boulder 3 years ago. Contrary to what one might believe, it's one of the few places in town to get a reasonably-priced vegetarian meal and have several options as to which meatless dish to order. They have options ranging from Mexican fare to pizza to sandwiches, soups and salads. A bonus to the wonderful food is their selection of Boulder-brewed beers. My favorite is Java Porter, a dark beer brewed with coffee. The only complaint I have with the restaurant is that it is small, and one usually has to wait at least 20-30 minutes for a table, and there is no space to wait comfortably, as it is packed and difficult to even stand. But they are about to open a new location in Boulder, which will hopefully cut down on the wait time at the original location.

Provided by CitysearchMountain Sun is my favorite place for a laid-back meal with great beer and atmosphere. Don't miss the games and free music on Sundays. Grilled cheese with pesto and a chocolate stout make me happy.
