Request to be seated at Phil Hunter's table!

Tresca is must when dining in the North End!

The last time I was there we truly had the best and most knowledgeable Server named Phil Hunter (he is there Friday nights!)

Phil knows everything Italian...so without hesitation we left it up to him as to what we would be eating that night. He picked our courses and introduced us to some fantastic wines (which I have since found and purchased), each a wonderful surprise! This was truly the most romantic dinner a girl could ask for and Phil made it extra special!

most romantic table

The balcony table for 2 is the most romantic table in the North End. I love eating al fresco and people watching is like no other. The service was so professional from the initial greeting from the lovely hostess, the server and the busser. We did the Tresca Tasting. 4 amazing courses from different regions in Italy. All where explained as they were brought to the table. We were at the hands of the Chef. Fun and exciting experience. Unforgettable evening.

Great date spot, but don't forget the bar menu!

One of the three best restaurants on Hanover Street!

Most restaurants on Hanover Street either offer you heaping helpings of mediocre red sauce or overpriced and over thought ""modernized"" Italian. Tresca manages to give you a delicious, modern Italian meal that would satisfy the most die-hard of foodies, but would not upset your nonni either.

The pork chop is one of the best items on the menu, hands down. Its size would make it feel at home in any downtown steakhouse and its cooked to perfection and covered in pan sauteed pancetta cubes. And the sweet and sour peppers...minkya!

On the more traditional end, the bolognese knocks it out of the park with its rich and meaty sauce (veal, pork and pancetta). The Veal Osso Bucco is another traditional favorite of mine. Its even better than my moms (she doesnt know how to use a computer, I can say that).

What I found on my most recent trip was the Bar Menu is every bit as good as the dinner menu. Smaller plates lets you try a variety of items. I'd recommend the scallops and the steak, both outrageously good!

If you want to graduate from the chicken parm factories of Hanover Street and try some cuisine that would be served in one of the better restaurants of Italy, then take a chance on Tresca.

This place is awesome! I went with my girl the other night. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was excellent. Pasta was great and the veal was fantastic! Great atmosphere also. I highly recommend Tresca!

North End resto def worth checking out

I work in the area and have been to alot of North End restaurants for dinner or just a few after work drinks. Tresca is definitely my favorite because it's a great place to do either. The food is among the best in the neighborhood, the atmosphere is relaxed yet classy, and the staff is young and fun. If you are thinking about heading to the North End for dinner or a drink or both, check out Tresca, you'll be back.

Fantastic!

Usually I'm not the biggest fan of Restaraunt Week, but Tresca was easily the best spot I've gone to in years of trying new places during RW. Typically the options aren't that good at most places, but not only did Tresca feature the best options (the 5oz. bone-in-filet was outstanding), but the 3rd serving was a meal in and of itself. I would highly recommend this for any meal as I look forward to going back.

The owner was also exceptionally professional in greeting guests, checking in during the meal but not overwhelming.

Never Disappoints

People in Rhode Island don't like to travel more than 15 mins. especially for Italian food. So for this person to travel to Boston's North End there must be something special. Tresca is special. It reminds me of Tuscany. Massimo, the gen. mgr. and wine sommelier makes you feel like you are somebody. He has a fabulous understanding of wine and knows how to please. Monday night I was there and the place was jammed. Can you imagine that in this economy and on a Monday night ! I come here as often as I can and the food is consistently great! Consistency is the toughest thing in the restaurant industry. The service has been and was great.Mon. night. Great portions and fairly priced. I was surprised to read some reviews that were negative. If you want bland, rude and overpriced travel to Providence and visit Al Forno.

Just ok and overpriced

I had dinner at Tresca on a Saturday night with my wife and 3 kids. Not really a place for kids, but I knew that going in, so that is no issue. The kids mostly enjoyed the food and the wait staff was accomodating.
We were never told about the specials so I did not know there was a ribeye, which I would have ordered.
I ordered the Osso Bucco, which was plentiful but rather tough...which is strange for this dish. Either a bad cut of meat or not prepared well. It was served over a bland corn polenta.
My wife had the rissoto with beef, which she enjoyed. I tasted it and thought the rossotto was rather bland.
My kids ordered plain pasta with marinara sauce, which was fine.
We had 1 bottle of wine ($35) and 1 martini and no desert. The cost of the meal was $200. Very overpriced...better choices in the North End.

Great food and service

A Tresca regular, I can't say enough about the food and the service. On my last visit I tried the chef tasting. The server asked us if we had any allergies and/or dislikes and then the chef went ahead and designed a three course meal that catered to our preferences. It was fantastic and really gave us a chance to try some true italian flavors that we may not have otherwise chosen. I highly recommend it. After dinner, we finished with a night cap at the bar. The male and female bartenders were very attentive and friendly making it a perfect ending to an already perfect night.

Great first time

I recently went into Tresca with a couple of friends for dinner. I had never been there before and had an great experience. We decided to have dinner at the bar and the male bartender was attentive, polite, friendly, and knowledgeable about drinks and the menu. We did not wait more than 2 minutes to be acknowledged and our food was great along with the drinks. A definite place to visit again!

Great Bar

As a frequent visitor to Tresca's bar i cant say enough about the atmosphere in there. While i have never eaten in the dining room I can speak highly of the overall quality of the Bar. Bartenders are down to earth and attentive, food is just perfect all the time, (I recommend the pollo romano on the lighter fare menu),and once the dinner crowd shuffles out it becomes a trendy spot for attractive young adults. Great spot for a night out especially on the weekends!!!!!

Not impressed

As a 'use to be regular of Tresca' I can not begin to explain how disappointing this restaurant has been escalating too. To start with food quality, outrageous prices, service, whether we sit in the dining room with the unattentive waitstaff or to the bartender who soley works to watch which game is on, Tresca has been a huge disappointment. The menu options read as they would be delicious, but as my friend put it, the options are just ""stale"" and completely over priced. I ordered the ravioli dish, which is a fairly new option, was barely edible and also recommended by our server. During summer restaurant week, my friends and I had an outstanding meal (which is not always expected by restaurants during this week). The orchiette with sausage and rabi was a memorable dish. I will not outweigh the option that I will be back for cocktails, but that will be depending on the service staff and as far as having dinner I will go down the street.

great food and great bar

We made a reservation at Tresca for a Friday night after friends were raving about it. The night could not have been better. We had dinner in the upstairs dining room overlooking Hanover St. The room is very cozy and the great food and friendly and prompt service made for a great dinner. We participated in the chefs tasting which allows you to relax while the chef chooses appetizers, pasta and and entrees for each guest. The Bolognese pasta and veal chop were fabulous. After dinner we ventured to the bar which was very lively. The tv is huge and the Celtics game was on. The bartenders entertained all our questions and curiosities as we don't make it to the north end often. Very Friendly. The crowd was a mix of locals and out of towners which gave it just the right feel. I definitely recommend Tresca for a special dinner or drinks at the Bar.

Disappointing

A friend of mine recomended that I check this place out. He recommended sitting at the bar and told me what a great place it was to watch the game. I decided to bring my girlfriend along and much to our surprise there were two spots at the bar. The decor was very nice and the atmosphere was welcoming. Unfortunatly the bartender was not. We sat at the bar for about 5 mins befor he even noticed us. We ordered two drinks and asked to see a menu we were never told what the specials were nor did he recomend anything off the menu. When we were ready to order we closed our menus and waited for him to come back over to us. It took him about 15 mins to finnally stop watching the game and come take our order. He seemed frustrated with us and was very breif. We recieved bread but nothing to go along with it. We ordered the papardelle which we shared but wasnt split for us. and two filet. The food was good but not great. The service was awful. We had to ask for water and another round of drinks he never bothered to ask us if we enjoyed the food or anything. He had some friends at his end of the bar in which he engaged in conversation I could hear him swearing from the other side of the bar. So much for fine dinning. I wouldnt recomend eating here or coming here for drinks.

Great late anniversary dinner

I chose this restaurant for our anniversary based on citysearch reviews, and I was not disappointed. We made a reservation for 9pm on a Saturday night, and were seated promptly. The bread was great, and the servers were knowledgeable about their extensive wine menu. Although it started off with a full house, by the time we were done with appetizers, dinner, and dessert, the dinner area was quiet and the bar was starting to pick up. The service was great, and we had no issues with delayed service or attitude. It was very professional, courteous, and really nice. The ambience was also really nice, dimly lit, and romantic. Overall a great romantic experience!

Yum!

I thought the food was AWESOME! I really enjoyed all the different tastes they had on the menu as well as the variety of choices. The only down fall was the service was a little slow. It took a long time for the waitress to get our drink order and between our first course and entree there was a lull. The wait was not excessive but it was apparent enough for us to notice. The waitress made up for her (or the kitchen's) slowness though with her pleasant personality. Overall a great experience.

A nice spot

I walked by Tresca countless times before venturing in-- glad I did! I've been to the bar a few times, and once to the dining room where I tried the tasting menu with matching flight. Not bad! The kitchen was accomodating to my tastes (I'm not a fan of truffle, an ingredient used in much of the menu) and the meal was paced nicely (excellent risotto). The pairings were good, although one wine was on its way to being corked. Our server was very accomodating and brought over a new wine right away. I reccomend going during the week, when service is relaxed so you can enjoy the warm atmosphere.

Tasty but somewhat overpriced

Some friends and I went here on a Friday night. It was busy and noisy but we got a table within 20 minutes with no reservation. We had a couple different waiters, since the frist one was sent home during our meal (we were never told why) - both were nice, efficient and helpful. The bread basket is really good. Salads wonderful and pasta dishes pretty good. We also had a dessert pizza that was delicious. We got a decent bottle of wine ($45) but it was still served in what seemed like undersized white wine glasses. Prices are a little over the top, but portions are definitely on the generous side. Overall it was pretty good, but I felt like it was not quite worth the $85 per person.
