This past friday I finally made my appointment for a weeve. I kept putting it off because of the price. And my stylist 23, I doubted he really could do what I needed. Which was to make sure non of my hair showed. i didn't want to put anymore chemicals in. And I wanted it not to look bulky. He totally followed through. He stood 8hours straight making sure it look fabo. You can tell he really cares about his clients happiness and the quaility of his work is top notch.
As expensive as it was it was totally worth it. My stylist did amazing work. Im not sure how long I'll be able to see him. He's definetly going places. Anyway I left looking and feeling like a super star.
Again, I gotta warn you the price is high. But I don't think it's just because it's on newburry street. It's because they seem to hire the best people.
The atmosphere is clean, stylish, and cozy. They do keep you smiling while you're there.
I don't know if I can afford to go there regularly. But they will be the only place I'll consider from now on when it comes to hair. Gauranteed greate results.
Just gotta save for it. :)

The stylist completely ruined my hair.
The name Salon red is actually kind of ironic..they are advertising what they work the worst with- RED.I came in with a light brown color in my hair that had a SLIGHT red under tone. I initially wanted her to just throw some highlights in to make my roots less noticable, for the most part, I liked it how it was. She obviously didnt, and instead decided she wanted to touch up my roots by matching the existing color all around, and throw foils in. She told me anything else would not look blended. It seemed sensible so i let her. However, the color that ""matched my roots"", in her eyes, happened to be a deep red with violet undertones with a dark dark brown base. It was disaster, and to top it off she put highlights in that were so light that they looked grey in contast to the rest of my hair. She also insisted, that this purple color, was my actual original hair color i came in with. To top it off, when leaving, might I add I was so distressed and upset about my hair i was crying, things got worse. Not only did the owner not see me crying during this entire 4 hour nightmare and say nothing, he felt the need to embarrass me as well. I was told that my bill was modest and that he would have charged me more because I mae her try to fix it three times.

First salon I've tried in Boston since moving here; it was recommended by a friend and I'm very happy with the results. Yojanse gave me just the cut I was looking for and the price was not outrageous (as Newbury is known for expensive everything). I was really pleased and will definitely continue to head there for future salon needs.

Salon Red was one of the best things ever! I went to the salon thinking it would be snooty and uppity but was willing to put up with it if it meant I would get a kick a$$ cut. I was pleasently surprised, however, when i arrived. The atmosphere and the stylists were very friendly and it was a nice eclectic mix. I went for a cut but also ended up getting my hair flatironed. My stylist (Arthur) was very friendly and full of knowledge. We ran our mouths like old friends the whole time I was in his chair. It was $85.00 but I left looking fabulous so I will definitely go back to Arthur. The whole experience....fabulous!!

I have been searching for a place to get my ethnic hair done in Boston for years and have never found a place that combines the professionalism, outstanding service and impeccably skilled stylists of Salon Red. Kai is a miracle worker and made me look and feel fabulous. She is extremely conscientious and I would not hesitate to recommend her to any one with ""difficult"" hair.

Salon Red is trendy and fun but not stuffy like a lot of Newbury spas. I've been searching high and low for a salon I like in Boston and this place is pefect! And I love Ali, she's fun and friendly and has great fashion sense (I love the outfits she wears!). She just gave me the best hair cut I think I've ever had! Check this place out!

My experience at Salon Red has been wonderful each time! I highly recommend going to Calvina Strothers, every time I feel like my hair is on the brink of extinction she brings it right back to life!! Trust me if you want to look fierce you should definitely go to this woman!!!!!

Salon Red has a very relaxed, chill atmosphere and I LOVE going there! Yoshie is by far the best hair dresser! She treats hair cuts like a modern artist, making sure that her art-work is hip and elegant at the same time. I've never had my hair done so well on a consistent basis...and Yoshie is the master of consistency and really understanding what I like and want to do with my hair.
Go to Salon Red and ask for Yoshie!!

I ALWAYS go to Yoshie at Salon Red @ 350. She is just one of those naturally creative, talented individuals who does magic to your hair. She did my hair for my wedding which looked beautiful (I received MANY compliments) and I completely trust her opinions. She takes the time to make your hair just right and she really cares. I consider her an artist!

Too much attitude. This salon is VERY unprofesional, pretentious and not worthy of it's location. There is a stylist (arthur?) that works there that I was told is the owner and he looks very unaproachable and unhappy to be there. He is snippy to his staff and just as rude with his clients. This created tension in the air. The stylists here are mediocre at BEST and some of them look creepy.
I did not get my hair done, I went with a friend who wanted to try something new. While she got her hair done I was able to absorb everything and it was not good. Her hair was ok, but all she needed was a simple trim.
Maybe this salon had a bad day but had it been a little less dramatic with better stylists, I would have gone back for my own needs.
Stick to a salon that focuses on more hair and less gossip.

My experience at Salon Red & Spa was something out of every woman's worst nightmare when going to get their eyebrows done for the first time at a new place. The woman FELL asleep ( she was definately on something) in the middle of doing my eyebrows. She got wax in my hair. AND THEN she ruined my left eyebrow - 3/4 of it is gone and I have dark hair and dark eyebrows so it can't exactly be blended in. Also, because she kept piling on the wax, I have severe burns and swelling above my left eye. Granted, I didn't have to pay for this horrible ""service,"" but I would have rather paid double then be left without an eyebrow. This is by no means an exageration. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!

I got my first facial at Salon Red and Spa. I was nervous since I have problem skin, but it was such a great experience...Brea was so professional, and it was the pampering that I needed. The facial was effective, but gentle - I went out that night and no one could tell I had a facial, my skin wasn't irritated or red. I would definitely recommend any spa service here (I went back to get my eye brows done!).

I'm a Boston native who moved to California for my entertainment/ acting career. It's been really hard to maintain the healthiness of my hair in this industry with all the teasing, hair spraying, blowdrying, etc... and absolutely no time from the constant shooting, studio work, theatre work, and interviews. If it wasn't for Arthur Harris & his amazing crew at Salon Red, I would probably have gone bald by now. Arthur has been nourishing and maintaining my hair for years. And even though I live in California now, I still fly into Boston once or twice a month to get my hair done at Salon Red because I refuse to let anyone else but Arthur do his magic on my hair. I am so thankful to Arthur Harris especially for styling my lace front wigs which I send in to him when Im not able to make it to Boston. All my cast and crew members on set are amazed at how beautiful and healthy my hair always looks. They just assume that I'm taking extra vitamins for my hair, since it looks so shiny. I told them about my secret weapon, Arthur Harris, and now they all want a piece of him. So please take my advice and visit Arthur Harris at Salon Red and let him take you on this amazing journey with his magical hands, and you'll see how he transforms you from the everyday person to the star you really are. It's what he does best, ""HAIR""!!!!!!

I went to Salon Red & Spa to get my hair done for my wedding. When I called to make an appointment for a practice hairdo I asked whether I should bring anything. They said no. When I arrived they asked whether I had brought any pictures of the hairdo I like. I had not because I did not know I should. I thought we would try out a few hairdos so I can decide which one I like best. This is the way it is done in Europe where I am from. However, they said they would only do one hairdo. They started, and then mid-way through told me they had unfortunately scheduled another customer so would I mind waiting a quarter hour while they cut another person's hair. Well, what could I do but say yes. The quarter hour turned out to be half an hour. The hairdo they did was nice but really nothing you'd expect for more than $100 (the practice was $70). Also, it started to dissolve as soon as I had left the store. Well, they said they'd do a better job on my wedding, but that is nothing I'd rely upon. Why didn't they do a great job for practice, too? After all, a wedding hairdo should hopefully last an entire day. And would they also schedule a hairdo in between doing my hair on the day of my wedding when I am in a rush? Needless to say, I never went back but had my sister do my hair. And she (who is not a hairdresser) did a MUCH better job than Salon Red & Spa.

Thanks to the review I read yesterday about the new location at 350 Newbury I had the best experience ever today! I figured I'd take my chance and check them out this morning to get my hair done. All I can say is that if you are latina in need of serious hair repair YOU MUST see Madeline to get your look right. Not only did she take the time out to tell me what I need to get back on track with the health of my hair, but she also performed a miracle service. I walked in with fried, straggly looking long hair with no hope. When I left, my hair was finally looking natural and feeling healthy as ever (not to mention my hollywood hairstyle&cut.. love it!). After a special concoction she mixed up for a deep treatment, my hair felt so soft and shiny I almost cried!!! She was very blunt and honest with me about everything and even gave me several hot hair tips. Salon Red at 350 Newbury is definitely the new hot spot. I highly recommend it!
I have been to the original location a few different times to get my twists done. I just found out that they have a new location up the street and I have to say that I was impressed. I will make this one my new home. It is younger and has a really chill vibe. If you are on the young side or enjoy that vibe this is the spot. Not to mention they have flat screens with cable, sports in the back and music videos up front. I will tell all of my friends about this place. The best part of this new spot is that they have barber service so now I don't have to go to a separate barber to get my bread trimed and shaped!!! NICE
One day I went to Salon called ""salon RED@350"" on newbury 2nd floor from starbucks and found out this is the same salon from ""salon RED&SPA"" . I met a stylist her name is Yoshi who is Japanese . I also a japanese so I was so grad that I can tell her what I want and she understood me 100% . And hair came out wanderful.... I will totaly recommend this salon. I loved it the place very much. So close to T access. Great music, nice peaple, nice everythiong....and Thank you Yoshi!!!!!!

I had the worst experience I have ever had going to Salon Red. I wanted to try someplace new and was a walkin. I had heard only good things. I sat down with David and told him exactly what I wanted in a color. We went through the books and he was steering me torwards colors I wasnot at all interested in, ironically reds. I do not like red hiar, I do not want it. I would liek suggestions, but not a tone which I am not fond of. After about 5 people touched my hair between waching it, while someonme else conditioned it and someone else towled it, I was placed in this backroom. Where I sat alone and wasnt so much as offered a cup of coffee a water or even a magazines. I sat there for 390 minutes while David waited on 3 other customers. He suggested I do some low lighting and highlighing and I explained to him that I had a budget for a cut and color only, if he wanted to add a few accent pieces that would be fine, but I could not do a color and then a whole head highlight, as I could not afford it. I noticed him going at me with tons of colors, and asked him again ""please i do have a budget"" and he He didnt listen again...againg... he kept at it with the colors, hte browns the reds, OMG i wanted to scream, I was getting impatient. Anyway, I ended up leavving there and went to the desk to pay it cost $314.00. THATS RIGHT. I ALMOST PASSED OUT. I EVEN LEFT MY ERWIN PEARLS BEHIND BECAUSE I WAS SO FLUSTERD. SO THEY GOT ME FOR 314 BUCKS, a 50TIP and my 100 DOLLAR EARRINGS. IF I WANTED TO PAY THAT MUCH ID GO TO LA TO SEE KEN PAVE LITERALLY. honestly, I would have paid that much if the service was there and it wasnt like a circus it was the must insane place i have ever been it would be even withot the kid yelling about the essence of bobs and the nafta ish feel of it, it was a freak show circus not professional at all. i will def give my business to places liek emerge and acrue that are at least CIVIL and professional. YUCK i hate salon red.
