Simple food done very well!

Went for Restaurant Week menu last night and was very pleasantly surprised. At first glance, menu looked a bit boring but Morton's took simple dishes and made them delicious! I really enjoyed my first drink ""Cool as a Cucumber"" from the bar and dinner - ceasar salad, filet mignon, side of sauteed green beans and cheesecake for dessert - were all cooked perfectly. Portions are extremely generous, ambiance resembled walking into a wine cellar - my dream wine cellar - and service was impeccable. Overall pricey, but totally worth the splurge!

Come a Long Way!

Been in the bar many times since it opened Nov 07. The place has ironed out the kinks and the food and service are better then ever! The bar is casual and a fun place to hang out..the dinning room is better for special occasions or biz events.

1 - The bread is huge - big deal - get over it - it's nicely toasted and great dipped in my lobster bisque or onion soup. If you can't handle cutting it yourself don't go out to eat.

2 - If in the rare occasion my steak was over/under cooked - they have quickly taken care of it. Try the cajun rib-eye, the tuna tartar, or the shrimp alexander.

3 - Nice location, right on the water, valet available or street parking.

4 - They have $6 Apps at the bar Mon- Fri 4:30-6:30 & then late night that are great!!! Can't beat them for the neighborhood, or any place in Boston for that matter. Yum.

The Steak Did Not Sizzle

Beautiful wood paneled restaurant overlooking Boston Harbor. Attentive, well-mannered and immaculately groomed wait staff. Unfortunately, service and ambience always run a distant second and third to the food.

Start you off with onion bread. If you like onions, I don't doubt that the bread is fine. If you don't like onions, the eager to please wait staff will bring you some white toast. If I'm going to eat toast, I'll do it at a diner. There should be more options.

The shrimp (huge) cocktail was very, very good. The steak was way too fatty. I've had better at the Outback. Yikes! Mash potatoes were very good.

But just like the service, I don't judge a meal by the appetizers or the side dishes, I judge it by the entree. And this steak was below average in quality. For $200.00+, I expected a lot more.

Great steak in Boston

Fantastic food, great service! New restaurant knew what they were doing. I was happy with the delicious ice burg, w/ blue cheese, bacon bits; a huge salad got the meal off to a great start. The filet mignon was excellent quality. Go with the cream spinach on the side. Plenty of dessert to choose from if you have room after thid large meal.
The staff at the restaurant was modern and you did not get the feeling of the traditional ""ole boy's club"" vibe that many steakhouses have.

Awful, expensive, don't bother

Small group (5) for a birthday. I have eaten out a lot over the past 30+ years in business. So when birthday ""boy"" called to ask if I'd join them at Morton's seaport I was delighted. Been to Morton's before in other cities and back bay, not this one. But this boston seaport location is right out of Gordon Ramsay's ""Restaurant Nightmares"". Service was good, that wasn't the problem. I felt sorry for the staff by the end of the night. We ordered their seafood appetizer for 5-6 people, about $100. It was fine, even good, a little unimpressive in quantity. We emptied it in a few minutes. My thought was that if king crab legs, oysters etc are too expensive to be luxurious then why offer it? Skimping is a bad compromise. Then the steaks came out. Though variously ordered medium and medium rare they were served as the french call ""bleu"": Seared on the outside but cold and raw inside. One got sent back for another try but I thought if it's a good steak I can enjoy it rare once in a while. It was terrible. It was chewy like rubber bands and much of that were cold lumps of fat and gristle, not meat. A little more than half-way through and finally gave up regretting I'd even tried that hard. I told the server but by then dinner was being cleaned up for dessert so when the manager offered to comp the steak I said ""fine"". Then they lied about dessert! They brought out a tray of desserts. One was a large-ish plate of 30 or so fresh raspberries with a dollop of whipped cream ""you can have blueberries also, either or both"". Two of us went for the berries, add a scoop of ice cream! They brought out a fountain sundae glass with ice cream and a few berries on top. Nothing like what they showed. They offered to fix it and only then admitted they were out of berries! A slice of key lime pie was awful, sticky goo. The place was empty, and by 9 on a saturday night it was dead. Not surprising. Awful experience, left hungry and feeling ripped off: $160/each w/ 20% tip.

Would rather dine at Outback...

Keep in mind two things while reading this- 1) I am a huge fan of steak and nice steaks at that. 2) I am a bit of a chef myself and hold my dining experiences to very high standards. If I am paying more to eat at a restaurants and I can make it at home much better.... we have a problem.

Bread was a ginormous onion roll (think the contents of bread cases at your local supermarket on steroids) which was neither sliced nor susceptible to slicing. Family style onion roll. Delightful.

Appetizers were skipped as orders werent taken until 40 minutes later and this was a business lunch. Entrees did not arrive until 90 minutes from our reservation time. Tht means it took a little under an hour to prepare our food. Two people ordered salads, another two crabcake BLTs, and three ordered steaks (albeit rare ones).

BLTs were barely touched so I am assuming they were inedible. The salad was supposedly 'alright' but had absolutely no presentation whatsoever. It was as though they opened a mixed bag of Foxy lettuce (complete with carrot shavings), poured on some Ken's dressing, threw some rump steak on top, and presented it.

I ordered a rib eye which with garlic butter and mashed potatoes. I had requested a side of Bearnaise sauce in place of the garlic butter and had asked for the steak to be rare. I like it mooing. The steak arrived with no bone (I was under the impression rib eyes were served on the bone), broiled (WTF?), smothered in garlic butter, and prepared well done. Bottom line- service sucked and the food sucked even more. You couldn't pay me to go back. Save your money- go to Capital Grille.
