I went to this place for my wedding. I tried different places and I couldn't convince myself to go to those places. One week before my wedding I decided to go to James Joseph Salon. I usually go there for my haircut.
Although I didn't have trial session, Mary did a great job. I showed her a sample picture that I liked. She is quite a professional. She did exactly what I had in mind except much more better. She did a wonderful job.
I had a lot of stress on my wedding day, I was worried about my hair style. But as soon as she held a mirror to show my hair, my mouth felt open, I hugged her.
I heard a lot of compliment in my wedding, and although I'm a picky person, every time I look at my photos, I feel so happy that I had my hair done with Mary.
I just want to thank her.

Ashley Nicole has been coloring my hair for over three years. She is unbelievable. A true pro in the profession. She worked with me to find the right color for my hair and the color has been beautiful. I get compliments all the time. The added bonus is that Ashley Nicole is the sweetest, and fun to spend the time with while the color is being applied.
I have recommended her to many of my friends and they have all become clients.

This is just plain pathetic, as I said above. I moved out here about 3 years ago and still haven't found a salon I like, I fly to california for my old stylist. I asked a friend to recommend me a salon, her hair was AMAZING!!! (no she did not go here) She told me the place she went to didn't work out so great for other reasons, but that her friend recommended James Joseph Salon and to ask for one of two stylists. I thought the friend was being kind, but it is clear to me now, that it is of the upmost importance to ask for one of these two stylists. It has become abundantly clear to me that everyone else here is incompetent. Has it occurred to anyone that this site has (when I am writing this) around 90 reviews, and out of them, 30 (THAT IS A THIRD!!!!!!) of the reviews were below 5 stars? Not only that but most are even 3 stars or below. Have you read the owner responses? it is clear he wants to to seem concerned to us, his unwitting victims. But, notice that he didn't respond to a single bad review with a solution. All of his responses, are ""that shouldn't happen here"" ""that is unacceptable"" or my favorite, ""call me directly, to see if we can work something out"" which is completely non-commital to solving the problem at all. I mean really? $300 for anything short of the best haircut of your life, should include the blow dry. I pay premium prices all the time, but I will tell you that no self-respecting, trustworthy, decent or capable salon denies the client a blow dry. Even, as another reviewer noted, supercut blow dries your hair for free. This is a sham and pathetic excuse for a salon, let alone a pricy one. YOU SHOULD NEVER COME HERE!!!!!! FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER!!!!!!
However, that said: I have never been duped by this particular salon, my review is purely based upon the website, reviews from customers and responses from the owner. I however think, that given the appalling reviews and responsibility of the owner, this is plenty.

If you are going to get the Brazilian Keratin treatment, why don't you get it from a Brazilian professional!?
Cristina literally changed my life! My hair was dry, frizzy and boring. Before I met Cristina I was very against having any chemical applied to my hair. Well... after a few highlights, a haircut and an informative chat with her I felt comfortable enough to have the Brazilian Keratin done to my hair. WOW!!! My hair has never never never felt or looked this shiny, soft and bouncy before. Not only that, it only takes a few minutes to look good in the morning. The result was incredible! I AM HOOKED!!!Cristina is amazing!

I am the reigning Miss Teen United States-World and I am constantly in the spotlight. My hair is always being damaged from being straightened and curled. The James Joseph Salon graciously sponsored me throughout my reign with my main stylist as Christina. All I can say is she is amazing! I have never had a stylist be able to blend me layers as well as she does. The cut made my hair look so much healthier and it didn't have the choppy layers most artists give you. She also highlighted my hair, this was sort of a spur of the moment decision but I am so glad I got them! They look awesome and spice up my hair so much! Too top it off she is a total sweetheart and keeps you satisfied! I highly recommend going to Christina!!

HOT HOT HOT! LITERALLY! So, I burnt a very large section of the back of my hair. I thought for sure I was doomed as I sheepishly walked through the door to go see Cristina…. I can not even tell you how grateful I am to have such an expert stylist. I walked out of James Joseph Salon that day much different than I walked in. I can’t even believe the cut. It is amazing. You would never know that I had a “whoops” and that’s not the first time she has fixed one of my self inflicted “WHOOPS”. The color is always perfect and her cuts always exceed my expectations. I actually even have some of her cards in my wallet because I got tired of trying to explain to people where I get my hair done! Cristina – If you are reading this, please don’t ever move out of the area! :) A++ every time!

I got my hair cut by Eva about a month ago. I normally don't write reviews, but had to this time because I was so impressed with the cut Eva gave me.
The way Eva shaped my hair is incredible. She gave me long layers throughout, and my curls just fall in place and frame my face perfectly. All I have to do is wash, put product in, and be on my way.
I am super picky, and Eva's haircut is by far the best I've had. Her assistant was really nice too! I am so happy with the cut, I could go on and on :)

It was my first time, I read good and bad reviews but decided to check it for myself. My appt. was with Erica, she seemed nice as well as her assistant, but she left me with the same color nothing new nothing great same brownish colors with ""highlights"" mm I dont think so, and then when she did the my hair it was so horrible.. my hair ended up with static and it was impossible for me to enjoy the night out because my hair was flying all over!!! I paid 180 for NOTHING seriously!! i think the salon is very expensive and they give you less than average results! Dont go with Erica!!

So I was on Newbury Street shopping for sunglasses, and I noticed that the salon under the sunglass store was jam-packed and had a sign in the window - Best Haircut Under $50. I thought to myself, ""Self. You should try out that place."" Two weeks later, I needed a haircut and went in. Wow! It was the best haircut I ever! I saw Kashmir. She's cute as a button and really knows what she's doing. The salon has a great buzz, yet I never felt forgotten. It was a great experience from start to finish.

I read so many reviews on this salon before finally deciding to take a chance and they all said nice things.Pricey but ok. I don't mind the price as long as I get what I want. I wanted a cut/color, brought a picture of exactly what i want and had before, my hair has the right texture, i had the cut before and it worked but somehow i left the salon with a pale resemblance of what i wanted. and after i washed my hair was so hard to manage because the cut is not correct. the color is ok, again not what i really wanted. and really, i think after spending 400$ with all tips included, i should love what i see, right? i'm very upset and don't even want to go back for a correction because they fail the first time...
the good thing is that they are friendly and nice, but i don't really want that, i want a great cut and a perfect color!
if you really care about your hair, color and style, i would not recommend this place.

I have lived in Chicago, New York and now Boston and have never had such a phenomenal hair stylist in my entire life!!!!! I gave JJStudio 5 stars for their great service but especially for Ashley's fabulous talent!!!
Ashley ( along with all of the stylist at JJStudio) will never let you leave her chair unhappy with your haircut or style. The first time I went to ashley she cut my hair for over an hour because I kept changing my mind and asking for more layers or to cut my hair shorter. I left 100% satisfied and have been going to ashley for all of my hair needs. With Highlights, she is an artist!!! i felt like she worked on my hair as if it were her own personal masterpiece! She blended all of my many different hair colors to work together and look so incredibly natural. I have gone from light brown, to super blonde highlights, to very dark brown almost black hair and she always makes my hair look great!!! Ashley just knows what she is doing and takes such pride in her work. Very personable and super easy to talk to! Not only is she a great stylist but a great person as well. She makes the whole experience marvelous and enjoyable. So happy to have met her! I have truly been blessed by the hair gods and I strongly recommend her!! Many of my friends have gone to her and love her as much as i do. My newest friend who just moved to Boston made an appointment with her today. I'm not the only one in love with her talent : ) Try it out for yourself you will not be disappointed!

went for a partial foil last week. made me wait 25 min - no explanation. highlights were decent, but for $165 I expected to be pampered and believe it or not she did not eve dry my hair (I had to do it myself)
they said that would be additional $95 JUST FOR DRYING . but the worst part it shhe had 2 clients scheduled at once - so was running between us - stressed out - for this kind of price - are you kidding me. NEVER AGAIN

Decided to treat myself to a Newbury Street experience before the holidays. Researched online and the reviews for James Joseph seemed very positive...in addition reviewers had mentioned it was reasonable for Newbury Street. Went in for some ""low lights"" for my single processed blond hair and $367 later left with the worst hair color of my life. I've been to Newbury Street before, but have never spent over $200...I was so incredibly depressed. The color was so dark I went back a week later to add highlights...needless to say the stylist was not very cordial and didn't even look to see how the color was after I dryed my own hair. Worst hair salon experience ever!!!!

I have been in Boston for almost 3 years and have never found a stylist that did my hair the way i liked it. Lindsey is awsome! I went on the website and saw that she liked to do blondes so I thought I would try her out. Thank god I did I LOVE my hair!! When I met her she was so friendly and outgoing she told me that my hair was lacking depth and that I needed lowlites, I was a little apprehensive at first because I love being blonde but I trusted her judgment and it came out sooo good. The lowlites were just a darker golden blonde and it was so shinny and natural. Before my hair looked so fried and damaged and now it looks so healthy. I cant wait to go back and see her again!

12/7/08 - The Sunday Science Project is back!!!!! But I am not a Science Project any more, my hair looks better than ever. And it is getting closer and closer to the style I am looking for. I received so many compliments on my hair I lost count, it made me feel like a new woman, and I thank Kylene for that! I would give you 10 stars if I could! I apologize for giving Grant a new name; previously I referred to him as Graham. Thank you guys it was a great morning, and again, I love, love, love my hair ... see you in 6 weeks. I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday.
11/2/08 - Today I went to Kylene at James Joseph Studio in Medford. This was the first time I had ever been to a James Joseph Salon and poor Kylene was really put to the test! I had my hair done a week ago at another salon; my roots were red/pink/plum brassy awful with a hair cut to match. Kylene took one look at me, told me what needed to be done and she did it. She took a mess and did a magical makeover. Not only is all the red/pink/plum brassy gone, but I have beautiful highlights, and a short hair cut that is fun, classy, modern and has movement! She did a wonderful job, I feel like a new person. I also want to thank Kelly for booking me and Grant for his suggestions, you are all wonderful. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! You have a client for life. I cannot thank you enough ? you are truly the Best of the Best! Grazie Infinite?!

I had the frizziest and most difficult hair to deal with. It wouldn?t curl and it wouldn?t stay straight either. It used to take me forever to make my hair look half presentable everyday. I have been to many hair salons in Boston and I have not found anyone that would be remotely interested in helping me with my hair. Every time I went to a salon my hair would end up greasy and plastered to my head instead of smooth and shiny.
Thankfully, I went to James Joseph and found Cristina. When I first met her I felt so
relieved because she knew exactly what do to with my hair. She sat with me and went over everything that I needed to know in order to have beautiful hair. Cristina introduced me to an Italian keratin treatment which totally changed my life. My hair has never ever felt or looked this way before. Now, I can make my hair look great in less than 10 minutes. My morning dreadful routine is finally over thanks to her.

I've spent my life chasing the perfect haircut. From Supercuts (I know, I deserved to look bad), to the dizzying array of high-priced salons on Boston's Newbury Street, I've plunked down as much as $300 for drop-dead-gorgeous hair, only to feel dissapointed, super broke and super stupid.
I started to blame my hair. Maybe trying to transform this long, straight, part-down-the-middle hair into something drop-dead gorgeous was, well, unrealistic. Then I met Eva, whose scissors are truly a magic wand.
This girl can cut. Eva is more than a hair stylist. She is an artist who knows her medium.
For the record, my hair isn't the easiest to work with. It's pin straight with a kickin' cowlick above my right eye.
I wanted to keep my length but have some style. Maybe even leap into bangs. Eva really listened to what I wanted and took the time to study how my hair moved.
Eva knows hair texture and shape, and how to make a cut compliment the contours of your face.
Friendly and confident, as Eva snipped, she explained how the hair would fall, what works and what doesn't.
When she was done, I had what I was looking for my entire life. A conservative look for my career but with a little edge to keep it sylish and interesting.
After my first visit to Eva, I was standing in line for coffee when two women told me I had beautiful hair.
After the fourth visit, I know my life-long search is over.
My straight hair has shape and blends flawlessly. Even my cowlick behaves, and every cut grows out beautifully.
It's like I was born with great hair. All it took was a trip to Eva's chair to realize it.
Thank you Eva. You love hair, you love people, you love your job and it shows!
Everyone at James Joseph, especially Eva's fantastic assistant, Anastasia, has been friendly, fun, and provided great service in a relaxed atmosphere.
Visit Eva. You will get a haircut that enhances life.

After a few of my co-workers had gone here and come back with great looking hair, I wanted to follow the trend. A couple of them saw Derek, and another saw someone else. I went to Derek as well. The over-all feel of the salon was so full of energy from the beginning.
He came over and sat me down with a smile. We had our little girl talk, and I basically told him to do whatever he pleased because who else would know better. He was very specific with details on what he was going to do. Couple inches off the bottom, some more simple looking layers for my super fine hair and a straight across fringe as he called it. I got my hair washed and got back into his chair, and he worked and worked, almost like nothing existed but my hair, not much conversation but thats OK.
I left feeling a little ehhhh, whatever. But a couple days later I realized I just didn't need to work that hard to style my hair and thought to myself that thats where his magic is! Such a young KID literally, but don't be fooled, he's got it going on. Cute kid to boot. Love him.
