My wife and I dined at Gennaro's last night. For the money it was a good choice. Our entrees were good. I got the Jumbo Spinach/cheese ravioli my wife got the Rolled Stuffed Eggplant. What was disappointing was the $10 Cesar Salad that was mostly white salad with few greens ( I should have sent it back). We got a glass of Merlot, the glass was barely half full and the wine was pretty tasteless. Whenever possible my wife and I will split an appetizer and wine (here we saved $18 by sharing a salad and a glass of wine that weren't very good). The staff were very friendly, the location in North Square was nice. We had an early sitting, 6PM, the place was quite and we were also able to get a window seat.
All in all, I can recommend Gennaro.

We stumbled upon this great restaurant on a historic corner in the North End. Four of us had lunch and each meal was perfect. We all sampled each other's: spaghetti and meatballs, margherita pizza, pannini, and chicken w/broccoli and pasta...all delicious. We will definintely go back and sit by the window...each table has a window with a view.

I recently attended WITH best friends. There was ten of us and let me tell you it was first class dining all the way!! The wait staff was amazing recommending a reasonable priced wine that was delicious, the antipasto and dinner specials were out of this world. Every one of us ordered something different off the menu and no one was disappointed. The gravy was fantastic. Although onre of my friends been there before and recomended the STUFED SOLE I don’t think you can go wrong with any dish. I will definitely be back again. A hat off to Gennaro's……

The restaurant is newly renovated - 2 stories. The atmosphere is wonderful. The waitstaff is fantastic - great service and super friendly! The food is delicious. Every time I have gone there I have been so full from the meal that I haven't been able to order dessert!

Tuna appetizer dish with edamame cooked to perfection, tasty and excellent presentation. Also Lamb was brilliantly executed.
Restaurant is under new management, and currently called Gennaro's 5 North Square, since May 2009. Do not let the old reviews of the previous owner's fool you! This place has been completely transformed into an excellent dining establishment!

I have been dining here for years. Located in the heart of the North end, and great people watching windows. I have had many personal, and professional gatherings. This place is excellent. The food is always well prepared, and delicous. A great variety. The restaurant is extremely clean. The service is fantastic.

We have eaten here a couple of times, usually because other North End restaurants were full, and have had OK food. For the price, you can definitely find a better meal. On our visit tonight, which will be our last, the server was dismissive and rude. We left a 10% tip on a $100 bill. Apparently, that was not enough for him. He came out of the back holding up our check and cash and announced very loudly that 15-20% was customary. We generally tip a miminum of 20%, but felt that 10% was generous due to his forgetfulness and attitude. Needless to say we will be eating, and tipping, elsewhere in the future!

Great restaurant. Friendly owner. I really enjoyed the Verdicchio. The waiter suggested a perfect wine to accompany the meal. We were seated at the window. The view would have been great if the businesses in the area took turns cleaning the refuse from the square. Otherwise the view was good. I would return many times.

My fiancee and I had an enjoyable evening here. It was his birthday, so I reserved table 30 on the websites recommendation. Definitely worth it: cozy and private with a great view. We were seated promptly and the service was nicethere when needed, not obtrusive or pushy. Our food was excellent: flavourful with nice seasoning and good portion sizes. Large menu with something for everyone. I let the restaurant know that it was a birthday dinner when I made the reservation, and they brought us a complimentary piece of cake. The only downside is the decor; its a little dated. But, if you go out to eat for the food instead of the scene... There are plenty of restaurants in the North End with great decor and average food at expensive prices. We had great food at a reasonable price at a great table, and I would recommend it!

Five North Square is one of those places you'd think was great if it was your first time to the North End, but it's only average in comparison to it's area peers. We tried the Cioppino, a few appetizers and a couple pasta dishes and thought they were all solid. You won't be disappointed per se, but the opportunity cost of missing out on one of the spectacular North End restaurants is significant.
As North End resturants go, it's also not especially romantic.

I was searching for good restaurant for this valentines day, when I realized I came here with my girlfriend before and had to write something. The food was delicious and prices are definatly reasonable. The atmosphere (I sat upstairs) was romantic/smaller then the other sidewalk restaurants, as this was just outside the busy street. I just may go back again!!! P.S. I am a college student so I really have to spend money well and this place is worth it.

As a native of Boston, I have been to several Italian restaurants in the North End. I was quite disappointed with Five North Square. It started at the front door where the hostess seemed bothered that she had to seat a party of two. There is no ambiance. The decor reminded me of a low-overhead Chinese resaurant. We received bread and butter as we sat, but waited a good ten minutes to be acknowledged by our waiter. He also seemed bothered that we had questions about the menu. Our food was just okay. There are much better places to choose from in the North End.

My girlfriend and I went on valentine's day afternoon for lunch. The lunch specials are totally awesome for such high caliber food. Although the lunch menu is somewhat limited compared to the dinner menu, it still offers a wide variety of great Italian dishes.

This restaurant was reccomended to me by a North End resident. She said the ambience is like your grandmothers house and the food is DELICIOUS! I completely agree. The food is authentic Italian and there is something on the menu for everyone. I wouldn't hesitate to take my own Italian grandmother there. Maybe she will feel like she is back home.
