Ann's Costume & Magic Shop
707 Main St, Boonton, NJ 07005
Horrible experience! Store is packed with tons of crap, rental costumes are dingy and falling apart and the quality of costumes to buy are no different than those you can purchase from a mass retailer. There is nothing "unique" here at all and the cherry on top is the woman who has worked there 'for 30 years!' is absolutely rude.
Don't waste your time here, honestly if I could give this store a zero star rating, I would. The store is a complete nightmare, it looks like something out of hoarders and the woman who I believe owns the place, is extremely annoying and obnoxious. No matter what I said, she kept trying to push off a costume rental, which the rentals are absolutely disgusting; they are ripped, stained and show A LOT of use. I insisted several times that I did not want to rent and finally when she attempted to help me with a purchase she proceeded to try and sell me an $85 costume of 'high quality' which was absolutely NO DIFFERENT than the $35 costume I seen in Walmart. She also kept going on about 'bagged costumes' and how horrible they were when what she pulled out was EXACTLY THAT! She also felt the need to go off into a million different stories which I had no interest in and attempted to 'educate' me on costume sizing. I went to a top design school with a major in fashion design, the last thing I wanted was this woman trying to tell me what size i would need and that her 95% polyester, 5% foam costume for $85 was of 'high quality'. She was basically insinuating, from how she was talking to me, that I was ignorant when it came to costumes and clothing. I finally gave up and walked out of the store leaving her SCREAMING AFTER ME. She also kept bragging about how people travel from all over the US for her store and about how people come from California and New York just to rent and buy from her store, as if she was impressing me. Sadly, if people travel more than 10 minutes to come to this disaster, I feel sorry for them.
First off let me say that the store is in complete disarray. The woman working there (Ann i presume) was very overbearing and had trouble with just letting us look around and figure out what we wanted. She was down our throats from the second we walked in.
My wife finally settled on a cat costume that she bought new, and I settled on Hanibal Lecter ... however the mask (even though it was plastic) cost $35 to buy so she suggested I rent the whole costume for $40 which included the straight jacket and the whole shebang. I was grateful she was forthcoming at the time ...
However we went down the shore (NJ) to the Halloween party and when I went to change into the costume one strap on the straight jacket was hanging on by a thread, and the other was completely off but was attached with a SAFETY PIN.
When I returned the costume I was prepared to let it go if she appeared she didn't know (maybe a customer returned it that way and she never realized it - however unlikely) but instead she tried to claim it was supposed to be that way because "some people like it without the buckles and some don't."
Needless to say I made it clear that she was insulting my intelligence and left. I will never go back in to that store again, and you shouldn't either.
this place is disgusting. it's like something out of hoarders - crap piled up everywhere, ratty looking costumes. the store is very unkempt. i kept feeling something on my ankles while i was there, and while i didn't actually see any fleas, i'm sure it was something flea-like that was attempting to bite me. the owner brags about having thousands of costumes, but if you've got thousands of pieces of crap, then it really doesn't matter. crap is crap. don't waste your time here. the owner is obnoxious and rude. you can get much better costumes and customer service at any generic halloween store.

i asked for an eeyore costume to propose to my girl. ann's costume shop was the only shop in New York and New Jersey that had an adult sized eeyore costume shipped to the store. when i got to the store i was amazed at the QUALITY of the costume. it could've been worn at DISNEYWORLD.... the price was right and the costume worked like magic. my girl's dream came true...eeyore made the night magical...and ann's costume store made it happen! great people-A1 service and professional!

I needed a costume for my son that was hard to find. The owner was very helpful and spent alot of time with me. She has alot of stuff there and I have no idea how she keeps track of it all. But either way I was please since she was the only place we went that had what my son needed.

The place is way too crowded and I have no idea how the owner knows where anything is in that dump. She talks to you forever and never shuts her mouth and she over charges you for old clothes that look like they have never been washed. The whole place just sees really sketchy to me and i would only go there if it was a last resort.

The store is over crowded. The costumes are old and dingy. Frankly, they appear to be used but being sold as new. While the store represents that they have everything you need on the phone ( to get you in the store), they are not nearly as well stocked as it should be.
Disappointing trip but the dessert shop across the street made up for it.
