Long story short, no one arranged to pick up my Buick trade-in as part of my new lease agreement made with them back in December 2017. The dealership did not pick the car up from the mechanic shop where it had broken down originally and which is what caused me to have lease the new one. I pleaded with Generation Kia for weeks to get the car or to pay the storage fees and I would have tried to get it out of there myself. The mechanic was kind enough to not charge storage fees on the Buick for the first 10 days, and on day 11 he starting accruing them. Well… I guess he tired of storing the car for free… read on…
Since December 8th 2017 Generation Kia still has never picked up the car or paid the storage fees! It is now the middle of March 2018...! After several weeks, now months, of getting no phone call or any type of resolution, I received multiple tickets and a summons to appear in court (from Ordinance Enforcement of the Village of Lindenhurst) because the vehicle was found abandoned on the side of the road. If I don't appear in court on April 11th and respond to the tickets/summons, a warrant will be issued for my arrest. Even after reaching out to the dealership once again to relay this message to the Owner, Joe Catalanotto, I still have gotten no return phone call.
Multiple hard inquiries were run against my credit report by this dealership. I leased one vehicle, NOT three! My many requests for letters that I can send to the major credit bureaus, to have the inquiries removed, have also gone completely ignored.
It gets better… Generation Kia did not pay the full balance on the Buick as agreed upon and as part of the trade-in. Again, no one from the dealership would return my calls or simply pay the final balance. So I was forced to pay Capital One the final, small amount so as to avoid further negative hits to my credit score.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE THAT JUST WON'T GO AWAY!
I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2015 Kia Sorento with less than 30K miles from Generation Kia in Oct. A month later the engine blew up while I was on the freeway at night in NC and I had it towed to the nearest dealer, who told me a complete lack of maintenance caused engine sludge and a new engine would be needed. However, the NC dealer said the master database had no information that the car was certified. I called Generation Kia who said it was indeed certified but over a week of my repeated inquiries and phone calls has been unable to provide any proof of certification. I spoke with Sales Manager George, Service Manager Luann, and someone in service named Manny. Now they are ignoring me completely and won't return my calls. They know MY FAMILY'S ONLY CAR IS IN A DIFFERENT STATE IN LIMBO AND THEY DON'T CARE.
I called Kia Corporate today and gave them the VIN. They don't have records that it's certified either. I was also initially told by Luann in the Generation Service Dept that her manager said to email her my emergency hotel, car rental and Uber receipts and I would be reimbursed, which I did but so far there has been no follow up or refund.
I might update this review once I have resolution one way or another.
** For helping me not have a nervous breakdown, I'd like to thank KIA Corporate, who has opened an escalation case for this, and also my employer's attorney service (an awesome benefit), who said the main businesses they sue on behalf of clients are car dealerships. Which I find both funny and sad.
I met owner Joe C. and staff and discussed the situation and they couldn't have been nicer. Even though Kia Corporate was refusing to replace the engine Joe stated he would do his best to fight the decision. Joe also offered to replace the engine at his cost. Immediately I felt more at ease about the situation and that this dealership was willing to go the extra mile in order to make this situation turn into a positive. To make a long story short a fair compromise was made. We drove out in a brand new 2016 Optima. Joe threw in free maintenance for two years. The car is covered bumper to bumper (not just drive train) for 100000 or 10 years. Mark the salesperson and all else involved got the deal signed in record time. I will be strongly recommending this dealership to all I know and I will be doing business with them for years to come.
