Cancer Awareness has helped pay our rent for over one year now. My husband and I and battling cancer and we don't know what we would do without the caring and financial help that Off Island Thrift contributes to our family. Thank you so much, Karen...we appreciate you!
This is a great store with prices within every price range. I like the fact that they directly give to local cancer patients who are going through chemo and/or radiation treatment. The store is nice, clean, and organized. I went in there to find a blue shirt for work and it took me less than 5 minutes because, to my surprise, everything is in order by size and color. Love shopping here and donating here!!!!
This charity is not supported by the better business bureau, check it out, I have been harassed by one of their employees because she lied about a mobile home she was tryin to sell me... she never told me it was for the cancer awareness foundation....she told me it was hers, and she was renting it out, ant trying to sell it because her tenants had trashed the place....I found out that her "TENANTS" were actually trying to donate it , and were told that it would be moved and remodeled for a needy cancer patient and their family. I ended up buying the home from the people who were going to donate it for a GREAT DEAL less than she wasa trying to sell it to me for. I also found out that this employee stood to gain 10 percent of the sale plus she gets paid 10 an hour. She left me harassing emails and also very ugly phone messages calling me a theif and a bad person...you would not believe your ears. The people who were donating the home were only doing it because they could not afford to move the home and their lot was being sold out from under them.....Please..check the better business bureau for a list of charities that do follow the proper guidelines....the first one being that the charity should disclose the fact that they are a charity at the first contact with a potential client.....not lie to try to make money.. I have been told that this employee has been fired , but I will never trust this so called charity organization again.....there are too many legitamate charities that you can check out...why give to one that you cant??? Please reconsider!!!!!!!!
I am the owner of This charity and we have never had a mobile home nor had one donated. Perhaps you are referring to another store that uses the name cancer. We are The Off Island Thrift shop that directly supports locals who are going through chemo and radiation. We disperse over $25,000 every month to support this cause. That is present day Aug. 2011. If you have any other questions you are always welcome to come to our store location and I personally will show you a list of cancer patients we support each and every month. Ask any other thrift shop if they can show you what they disperse and to who. We are very, very proud of what we do and don't appreciate being lied about or undermined when you don't even know the truth. We have 2 store locations, one at 18 Plantation Park Dr. near Dairy Queen and the other at 4375 Bluffton Parkway, next to Vintage Market. Come in anytime and see us personally. Sincerely, Karen Matthews, Director 843-815-7283
There is so much too shoose from in this huge store. The prices are good and the staff is always very friendly. They accept consignments gratefully and easily. The owner has such a heart for Cancer Patients and it shows. I highly recommend it. Oh, and my little toddler son loves going there too!
