Be careful with using a debit or credit card. Waitress over charged my account and added an extra amount to it. I will only be using cash from here on out if I decide to eat there again
My husband and I celebrate every wedding anniversary, birthdays, & all special occasions at this restaurant location. It is usually very good. However our last 2 visits were horrible!!!! The most recent visit, our 7th wedding anniversary was the worst, the cactus blossom was completely stale and barely warm at the base. The baked potatoes were not done, our waitress was friendly enough (at least to my husband). The ONLY highlight was that my Prime rib was a little better than the rest of the meal.
If you are like me and dislike El Maguey due to their tasteless boiled gr beef and cheap ingredients then this restaurant would be considered several notches below that. I ordered the $9.99 Platter with 2 enchiladas and 1 taco with Rice. The "enchiladas" were tasteless boiled ground beef with a soggy - yep soggy almost ready to fall apart - flour tortillas covered in a red sauce. The taco was the same ground beef in a taco shell with a good handful of grated cheese. The "Mexican Rice" was a very overcooked and tasteless white rice with a pinkish hue. That was IT. No lettuce or any other side. $9.99. Then I ordered a queso cheese dip for the chips which arrived warm in a small cup with my meal. It was so thin that it ran off the chip and didn't stick. I tried to pour a little over the "enchiladas" and again it ran off in a pool. It was about the consistency of milk. I have never experienced a cheese "dip" like this before. It actually should have been served warm in a cup.The big surprise was the charge on my bill for the "dip". $3.99! I asked if it was a mistake and was told no. I get that it costs for overhead and labor. But really? About $.75 to $1.00 ( at most) in ingredients that was poorly prepared. My bill with tax was $15.00 for 1 person and the meal really wasn't worth eating. I drive by this site almost daily and seldom see many cars there and often none. Should have been my hint.
I've heard for a long time that Kansas City has the best BBQ in the country. My son and I love BBQ. With the great reviews of this place, we went here hoping to partake in something wonderful. We both got the rib plate. The meat had a nice smoked flavor. However, the barbecue sauce was wanting. The sauce was thin and sweet. The sauce will make or break ribs. In this case, it was sadly disappointing.
